Reid hinders Benghazi investigation

| November 18, 2012

We mentioned the other day that former general David Petraeus told the House Intelligence Committee behind closed doors that his initial report on the Benghazi consulate attack that he suspected it was inspired by al Qaeda but that line was removed by someone in the White House circle. The Associated Press reports;

The retired four-star general addressed the House and Senate intelligence committees in back-to-back, closed-door hearings as questions persist over what the Obama administration knew in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks and why its public description did not match intelligence agencies’ assessments.

After the hearings, lawmakers who questioned Petraeus said he testified that the CIA’s draft talking points in response to the assault on the diplomatic post in Benghazi that killed four Americans referred to it as a terrorist attack. Petraeus said that reference was removed from the final version, although he wasn’t sure which federal agency deleted it.

According to the Washington Times, the White House denies that they edited the report;

White House national security council spokesman Ben Rhodes instead suggested that the CIA itself may have made “adjustments” to remove references to terrorism from the agency’s early, unclassified reports to the administration about the assault that killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Mr. Rhodes told reporters the only change made by the White House to the CIA’s initial reports was to change the word “consulate” to “diplomatic facility.”

Well, to my mind, this seems like something that needs to be investigated, but Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, the draft dodger (using the same standard that the Left uses to label Republican draft dodgers) says that he’s not going to allow an investigation in Benghazi in the Senate, says Politico;

“I refuse to allow the Senate to be used as a venue for baseless partisan attacks,” Reid wrote in the three-page letter, released Friday evening.

Ya mean like the two years of baseless political attacks that were sponsored by the Senate during the Bush Administration, there, Harry? Like trying to de-fund the Iraq War no less than seven times in those years while totally ignoring the Senate’s responsibility to pass a federal budget? Baseless attacks like Reid announcing that the surge in Iraq had failed before it had even begun? In fact, the Senate hasn’t done anything except be a venue for baseless partisan attacks since Reid assumed the helm in 2006.

You’d think that the needless deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, the death of an American border guard by a weapon supplied by the US government to drug cartels in Mexico are things that would require a little bit of an oversight investigation, but Harry Reid isn’t in the business of doing what he’s supposed to do. In fact the Senate under Reid has only been known for it’s irrational involvement in political hackery.

Would that he actually did “refuse to allow the Senate to be used as a venue for baseless partisan attacks.” Nothing would make many of us happier!

Why does no one dig up skanky remarks made by Harry the Birdflipper about the Big Cheese before his first term in office?

Or are there none?

Hmmmm….it’s not like I have nothing to do, but I’m sure I could dig far enough to find something like that, especially since there is that precious video of Chrissy-poo Matthews on MSNBC discussing — or should I say “dissing”? — the Big Cheese with someone — I think it was Biden, the suckup who is now our veep — before the 2008 election.

I shall endeavor to persevere. I do have lawn cleanup for winter duty today, plus fixing a chuck roast in the crock pot, but I think I can manage.

Jonn, he also hasn’t allowed a budget to be passed in the Senate in nearly 4 years now, and you’re JUST NOW figuring out his primary function is to NOT do his job and as such, covering for the SCOAMF?

Remember the good ole days when we kinda sorta lived in a Constitutional Republic…..

I read back about Nixon and Watergate and see that both Dems and Repubs were ready to get rid of him….

Oh how I love that both parties will protect their power, regardless of the cost to the people.

Hondo

What a surprise.

FltMedic–the current crop of leadership regards Obama much like FDR regarded most of the tyrants/despots in Latin America back in the 1930’s: “He may be a bastard, but he’s OUR bastard.”

Whatever. Reid was re-elected. obama was re-elected. I am no longer in mourning. I am no longer angry. It is what it is. The tens of millions of Americans who view things as we (i.e., most here at TAH) do are screwed. America (and states such as Nevada) had its chance and now, as obama said in Thailand, the US is a Pacific nation. Who knew?

In follow-up to my previous post, I’ve tracked down this nugget from 2010:

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0110/Harry-Reid-racist-or-political-realist

and this one from 2009:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/04/reid-defends-himself-from_n_155080.html

And this video from Steven Colbert should also be included, but not if you’re imbibing something:

Also, please stick it out to the end and look at Morgan Freeman’s face.

Let’s all remember Harry, Mormon, saying that Mitt Romney is “not the face of Mormonism”.

I know there’s more stuff. The truth is out there. If I can just find the photo of him and his middle finger. I know posted a link to that somewhere a few months ago….

Also, you can clearly see, from the photo in this article, how much more important theatrical auditions and doing impressions are to the office of the President, than doing the job that taxpayers pay for.

In case anybody wonders why Harry Reid is still in the US Senate and majority leader, this short clip of an interview with Steve Wynn, CEO Wynn Resorts should paint a much clearer picture.

I watched the video. What a disconnect! First Wynn talks smack on Obamao, the Destructive Party, the Repugnicans, Kongress & DC in general — all ok so far.
Then he turns around and supports Whorehouse Harry, because he gives power to the state of Nevada.
W-T-F!!! Major disconnect!!

Clearly he’s just tired of seeing taxpayer’s money and government time wasted when there are serious issues to be dealt with.

Like the Cowboy Poetry Festival.

Here’s the timeline:

Tuesday, September 11th, the US Embassy in Cairo is stormed. Embassy buttons up, and there are no casualties.
Tuesday, September 11th, the US Ambassador to Libya is murdered, along with 3 others.
Tuesday, September 11th, the US government’s Executive Branch begins announcing that a poorly-made, unknown movie trailer on Youtube is responsible

Wednesday, September 12th, the NYT publishes an article describing the attack in good detail. The movie trailer is credited as a potential cause.

Friday, September 14th, 72 hours after the attacks, a more complete Intelligence Briefing is provided to the WH. This briefing is available at least on a ‘need to know’ basis. As Ambassador to the UN, a member of the National Security team, Ambassador Susan Rice had both need to know, and had access for review and questions. It takes a studiously uncurious person to avoid reading such reports. Or an avid golfer.

Sunday, September 16th, more than 5 days after the attack – 2 days after the WH receives the Intel briefing – Ambassador Rice goes on 5 opinion shows to declare, unambiguously, that a video is the cause of the murders.

Somewhere, between the first distress calls from Cairo and Benghazi, in the early hours (Eastern Daylight Time) of September 11th, and September 16th, the Departments of State, of Defense, and CIA report they knew who done it.

So again:

Who in the WH coordinated the narrative with AQIM and the Muslim Brotherhood?

Why should anyone in the Foreign Service, DoD, CIA, or their contractors have any faith in their leadership?

@13 – Hondo, thank you! That’s the one!

I’ve been out in the yard in the sunshine, raking leaves, pruning the roses, putting the buttonweed into the flowerbed with the garlic sets near the roses to keep bugs away.

It’s quite rewarding to come back into the house and see that florid finger photo.

I will continue my efforts to dig up crap about Smarmy Harry.

PH-2 when you go looking for dirt on Reid in Nevada, you are likely not to find much at all, if anything. Reid is pretty much politically protected property. Has been since he started up through the ranks of government and lawyers in Clark County and Las Vegas. If you can find the movie “Casino”, Dick Smothers portrays Harry Reid in it in a few scenes. It’ll give you a good idea of what he was like then and now. Any of the old timers I knew that knew him are long gone, a couple of them would be ripe for picking info, lol.

Ex-PH2

@18 – I’d be more interested in ferreting out stuff about him from sources like the New York Times or Time Magazine or Newsweek. Everything is archived now. It isn’t all that difficult, just time-consuming.

Besides, amongst those petitions to secede are some calling for impeachment of the Big Cheese. (Notice I stopped calling him Bo, because the Big Cheese is a lot more fun.) And Nixon did try to cover his tracks but failed, because he taped everything that went on in the Oval Office.

You know, it’s entirely possible that something will come up that will do what couldn’t be done with Clinton, in spite of his impeachment. Think about that for a bit.

Roger in Republic

Harry is suffering from Senile Dementia as a result of late onset of Alzheimer’s disease, He is convinced that he is a Roman Senator living during the second republic. The Emperor has given him his orders and as a faithful servant of the Empire he is powerless to resist. I feel rather sorry for the poor old fart. So sorry in fact, that if he were standing in front of a wall I would offer him a blindfold.

Nik

@19

I still prefer BO because, as a president, his record stinks.

@21 — Truer words….! 🙂
