Sunday feel good news

| November 18, 2012

Old Trooper sends us a link to the glorious news that a gun owner in Orlando has made the world a safer place when he was at his local ATM and two people with knives tried to relive him of his withdrawal. Unluckily for them, he had his firearm with him which he employed in the most expeditious manner, killing one thug (who I’m sure we’ll read later “never did nuthin’ to no one”) and frightening the other;

He shot Slivinski twice. Slivinski was taken to Florida Hospital Altamonte, where he died.

Harvey took off on foot after the shooting but a tipster led deputies to him. He was arrested Saturday afternoon and faces attempted armed robbery and murder charges. Deputies said the murder charge was added because the attempted robbery contributed to Slivinski’s death.

The name of the ATM customer who shot Slivinski has not been released but deputies say he will not face charges in the shooting.

Both Harvey and Slivinski had lengthy criminal histories.

So the news that Orlando is a little safer today thanks to a vigilant, trained and armed citizen is a great way to start our Thanksgiving week.

Let me make the obvious comment: “See, that’s what happens when you bring a knife to a gun fight.”

Ex-PH2

What? He fought back?

He didn’t want to “donate” his hard-earned cash to a couple of post-adolescent amateur criminals and thieves?

Can I hire him? Otherwise, I’ll have to carry bear spray in the car with me if I go out at night.

We want to punish them, not to kill them. If we kill them, we cannot punish them and embarrass their families.

NHSparky

I guess the Obumbles administration concept of “spreading the wealth” isn’t resounding so well with the general citizenry.

Guess they’ll just have to disarm us and make us good little compliant serfs. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

Hondo

Unfortunately, Ex-PH2, most jurisdictions want to “reform” them vice punish them. Many if not most of their families are beyond embarrassment or are in deep denial.

It generally is costly, doesn’t work, and overcrowds the local jails and prisons. Then most get released after a short stint and resume their criminal careers.

They can’t do that if they’re on a slab.

NHSparky

Hondo–ever notice how much crime went down when states started implementing “three strikes” laws? Just sayin.

streetsweeper

Maybe these two rookie “field agents” should have been recycled through the Obama Department of Wealth Redistribution (herein after referred to as the ODWR)Academy for one more “shot” at it?

Flagwaver

NHSparky, unfortunately the strongest Three Strike law in California was just overturned… because it cost the taxpayers too much to put people away after just three crimes…

Personally, the only bad thing I have to say is that he didn’t kneecap the other guy before he was out of range. Nothing better in prison than a guy who is gimpped and incompetent.

CI Roller Dude

That’s why when I teach defensive shooting, I have the students shoot multiple targets. Hitting 50% of the targets in this case is better than average, but with more practice, next time he could get 2 assholes.

Hondo

CI Roller Dude: nah, don’t aim for their assholes. I’m more a fan of Butch Cassidy’s advice: “Aim dead center. That way if you miss, you still hit something.” (smile)

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Truly inspirational and heart warming. Ah … nice way to start a Sunday. God Bless American and those who legally carry fire power!

Nik

Not only did he make the world safer, he saved the taxpayers some money.

Well done, Mr Unknown. If we had more citizens like you, this would would be a better place.

DaveO

No protests are planned about this egregious denial of civil rights by an armed citizen. Brother Al Sharpton and Chorus of Perpetual Offense saw the victims’ pictures.

UpNorth

“(W)e’ll read later “never did nuthin’ to no one”). Jonn, the go-to sob story from the family is, ‘He was just turning his life around”. Sometimes followed by, his 4 kids(but no wives) will miss him so much.
Good that one has assumed room temp. Now, practice.

2-17 Air Cav

UpNorth: In my former life I heard, “I’m gettin’ my life together” at least 10 times a week. Ultimately, I just started repsonding, “That’s great! Get it together by next Tuesday.”

Hack Stone

The only thriving industry is the commemorative t-shirt business. Oh yeah, the stores that sell the crappy teddy bears and candles, too.

SSG Medzyk

What? He stood his ground in Florida? I thought Trayvon was the last asshole to die because a law abiding citizen decided he wasn’t going to be a victim?

Where is the outrage from Sharpton and the rest of the racist black slave owners?

UpNorth

AirCav, I heard that shit more times than I care to remember. Always after momma DFO’d(Done Fell Out) and the 7 or 8 brothers and sisters wailed and rent their garments. I always wondered why the reporters or reporterettes never asked them why they hadn’t managed to keep an eye on the ute that went wrong, before he ended up on the wrong end of a gun.

Old Trooper

@16: We know the reason. Plus, it was never mentioned if they were wearing hoodies while carrying skittles and a bottle of tea.
