It’s Only Been 100 Years Since…. The Crash

| April 3, 2022

Would you like to know what real-world, real-time effects Putin’s private and personal war on Ukraine is having on the Russian economy? Okay, the list of many companies that do business in Russia is below. All of them are either shuttering their stores or pulling out completely. Some of them have been there since the USSR went bye-bye.  It is a remarkably long list and they are ALL pulling out, period.

Stupid is as stupid does. I am SO disappointed in Putin. He’s no better than Krushchev and those who followed him. Idiocy must be a genetic thing with the post-Soviet government.

The information comes from Business Insider. If you want to know more, it appears that there may be more to come in the form of rampant inflation – up to ++8.0% – that could have been avoided. We ourselves have got it bad enough here in the good ol’ USofA, so you can imagine what it will feel like to Russians who have never had to go through that kind of thing because they were born after the Soviet Union collapsed into the dust of history.

Here’s a list of some of the companies yanking their business out of Russia after a couple of post-Soviet decades of being there. Source is Business Insider.

Ikea, Adidas, and Canada Goose

H&M Group

Disney & Warner Bros., Lego

Expedia

Exxon-Mobil, BP, and Equinor (<-Norway energy company)

Harley-Davidson, General Motors, Volvo and Daimler Truck Holdings

Apple, Netflix, TikTok, IBM, Amazon Web, 3M, Spotify

Norges Bank Investment Management, the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund in Norway

Luxury fashion giant LVMH — which owns several high-end brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, and Givenchy

Kering, the conglomerate behind luxury brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Balenciaga

Hermes, Chanel, Inditex, Burberry, Prada, Goldman-Sachs, Uniglo

PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Deutsche Bank (Just imagine being used to using a bank card to buy stuff and suddenly it no longer works. The cashier wants cash, too.)

PwC, KPMG (accountancy firms)

AirBnB, Bumble

Unilever, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Pepsico, Heineken

KFC, Papa John’s, Nestle, Philip Morris, McDonald’s

Since most of these are familiar to us, consider what it would feel like to  you if you wanted to take your kids/grandkids out for a treat, only to find that you can’t even afford a small bag of fries and a soda for one, never mind The Grandkid Horde.

It happened here in the 1920s, when the US government made some serious mistakes that affected the banks and banking in general. And before long, the entire system crashed, when banks ran out of cash because the Federal Reserve could not get deliveries to them quickly enough. Banks closed, some to never reopen, and people lost jobs when their businesses/employers shut their doors.  There was no unemployment compensation in the 1920s and 1930s, but people like Al Capone (yes, that guy) opened soup kitchens. Capone’s was at 1053 South Dearborn in Chicago. I believe it’s a parking lot now.

And think about this for a moment: there will be NO spring planting (of grain and other foods) in Ukraine this year, thanks to Putin’s ineptitude and sheer stupidity, which means that there will be a grain shortage in eastern Europe for foods such as bread, flour for cooking, and feed grains for livestock (beef, hogs, chickens, ducks, geese, turkey), which means that inflation in Europe may become rampant. No money to buy junk will also affect China’s flourishing economy when the cash isn’t in the cash drawer. It all rolls downhill, you know. In case you’re wondering, inflation will likely hit everywhere and everything confounded thing.

The projected inflation rate here is speculatively set at 8%++, so take that into consideration when you shop. If it happened once, it can certainly happen again. Even China can be heavily affected if people simply stop buying whatever they ship to us…. which means I’d better make sure I have a good stock of Miss Punkin Squawfypants’ favorite flavors on hand, never mind treats for Yours Truly.

The irony is that gas at the pump (and I told you all about Gas Buddy’s price map) is, for now, holding steady, but does not seem inclined to drop.  If anything the blame for that rests squarely on the inept shoulders of the current (lack of) administration and no one else. There is some talk of using some oil reserves, but revive and finish the Keystone Pipeline?  Oh, hell, no! That would make sense! People would be back at work again! They could afford things like Kleenex and toilet paper and food again….

And, yes, there are still container ships waiting off shore to unload. The Splash247 website ( Spotify) follows container ships, if you’re interested, at the Spotify link.

Another Great Depression? It has happened before, and nothing says it can’t happen again. Happened during Andrew Jackson’s presidency, during the Civil War here, and even in England and Europe during the 1930s Depression, never mind over here. Stock up on ammo of all kinds, but keep your yap shut about it. The looting of South Side parked railcars carrying guns and ammo has been going on for years and never stopped, likely never will. Gangbangers don’t buy guns from shops. They just go steal them out of those parked railcars.

Take good care of you and yours, and watch while the parade of Da Stupid (in several governments) passes by. Then go on about your business and keep cash in a hidden place. Once the cascade starts, banks may restrict withdrawals per day (I have seen hints online about that).

There is nothing wrong with planning ahead and being prepared.

Oh nos! Not Goldman Sachs!! Whatever will they do?!

The CPI-U numbers are straight hot garbage. You wanna real indication, shaddowstats. Also, with many municipalities bonded to the hilt, rolling over any of those obligations are about to get a whole lot more badderer.

Its kinda amusing you brought up the Fed, most of the current fkery is due to interest rate policy. They’re out of tools and have pulled back so much productivity and resources from the future we’ll never get out of this mess. Just because there is a ‘social safety net’ doesn’t mean it’ll buy sh!t. At some point there is no ‘righting the ship’, is that now?

Some have been asking that for decades ,couhhronpaulcough.

In addition to the western co’s leaving the RF our sanctions have had a deleterious effect on free speech here at home. RT has closed up their sponsored content creators here in the ‘land of the free’, giving the PoS tech companies a little more of a green light to pull and censor content.

Roh-Dog

I’m not a fan, pacificly or general tso’sidly, of censorship and the more this ‘rah rah for-this-that-or-another’ goes on the more I fear the intolerance of differing opinions. We must have a Common Sense of Base Principles, if not, wtf is the point? Many on RT or in the liberal sphere are anti-war or at the least anti-intervention, and without reason they’ve been canceled.

I’m sorry, I can’t abide that.

To your points, Ex:

Amen! I’ve heard the same about ‘outages’. Best of luck to you, Sister!

Ammo? Why, that would be mean! (Say, there a limit on how many boxes?)

I saw a report that Russian oligarchs are snatching up the closed Western businesses and re-opening them with their own, but similar, brands. Given the Ruple has returned to its previous levels, I don’t think the sanctions are going to have much effect on the Russian people.

Roh-Dog

Heard the same. That ruble bounce-back was something else…

Given the RF and other friendly countries are working on other than USD/SWIFT payment methods this super-duper sanctions-o-rama could easily spill back to our shores.

Part of me thinks a lot of the current spending on Pakistani Gender Studies and the like is a way of off-shoring inflation.

Could you even imagine if they stopped?

The Business Insider also claimed that Putin bathes in the blood of deer antlers. Laughed my butt off at this absurd claim. I’ll leave it up to the hunters on TAH to answer, “what’s wrong with this picture?”.

I’ve been following the sitreps on the website below for weeks. Though pro-Russian, the sitreps are a balanced look at what is happening militarily and politically. As the author clearly states, the Russians are winning the military war in a big way but have been losing the propaganda/political war in a big way. Keep this in mind when citing the Western media’s daily drumbeat of propaganda such as the “Russians are incompetent” meme and the “Oh, the humanity!” memes. Will the Russian military victory (inevitable at this rate) win out or will the propaganda victory of the Ukrainians draw NATO and the US into the war? This is the crux of what we should be discussing on TAH.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your excellent articles. That said…

The propaganda topic is near and dear to my heart since coming home from Nam and labeled a baby killer due to the propaganda of the anti-war crowd. I lived 40 years as a Vietnam veteran pariah before it eased up, never ever speaking or advertising my involvement even to my family. I detest propaganda. The level of propaganda for the Uke war is extraordinary. I truly fear that it will drag the US/NATO into the war.

Welcome Home!

My comment went to moderation so let’s try it this way.

The Business Insider also claimed that Putin bathes in the blood of deer antlers. Guffaw. I’ll leave it to TAH hunters to answer, ” what is wrong with this picture?”

Here’s an earlier post many may not have seen: A sample of life in the Russian military : This ain’t Hell, but you can see it from here (valorguardians.com)

“My comment went to moderation…”

A typo in your email address will do that. You’re welcome.

Ooops, my bad and my apologies. Thanks for informing me.

Boy, ain’t YOU just a bright ray of sunshine on a cold winter morning.

Corn is up to 4″+ right now. Tomatoes, zucchini, and beans coming up.

Canned goods, the new currency– along with gold, cigarettes, ammo, booze, etc.

While the greenbacks still worth something, a wise investment in Gold and Silver tangibles is a nice start. I’ve been using Patriot Trading Group’s All American Gold for some nice deals.

The WEF and Digital Currency don’t work well without Electricity and Smart Phones. I myself prefer a dumb rotary flip phone.

Real Value is God, People, Gold, Silver, Beans, Bullets, People….

I think that’s a part of the plan, get the EBT’s on the E-Dollar and then slow roll all who get a .Gov check and then who knows what?

I’m trying to research a rumor that if the Gold was called, that the City of London, The Vatican and others would be scared to look.

poetrooper

Ex, among that list of companies, ol’ Poe sees a rather high percentage who should be sanctioned themselves by the American public for their stupid adherence to wokeism

I’ve personally have been sanctionering some companies since Mooshell Obummer was Vice Presidenting
