Intruder fatally shot at home in St. Paul

There are no arrests and Saint Paul Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot early this morning (Fri) while attempting to break into a home in the city’s Hamline-Midway neighborhood. Responding officers found a 56-year-old man waiting for them down the street, who told them a man in his 30s kicked in his front door and threatened his daughter, with whom the intruder had a relationship.

Shooting ruled self-defense in Lackawanna County
Lackawanna County D.A. Mark Powell says, “the facts simply don’t support a charge of homicide in this case.”

A deadly shooting at a home in Lackawanna County has been ruled self-defense.

Kevin Bowan shot and killed Harrison Carpenter at a house in Simpson last month.

Lackawanna County D.A. Mark Powell says, “the facts simply don’t support a charge of homicide in this case.”
Bowan, however, will be charged with illegal possession of firearms as a result of the incident.

A twofer for Monday.

The S&W was a nice start into the world of self shuckers. Had one in 45 and it was great except it shot very low even at 5 yards. Put the target out to 25 yards and you had to aim just over the head to get near the chest area on a silhouette. One of the only disappointments I had with the brand.

Of all the problems to have with a gun, that is one of the easiest to cure: file the front sight a bit shorter. Simple math says if the sight radius is 6″, at 75 feet to raise point of impact 18″, your front sight needs to be 18″/150 shorter, or .12″. Another option is to switch to heavier bullet weights – heavier bullets at lower velocities stay in the pistol barrel longer, hence further into recoil, hence the barrel rises a tiny bit further and the point of impact is higher. Pedandicism endeth now.

I would have had to file it down to below the top of the slide. I was already shooting 230 gr slugs and that is about as high as the 45 ACP goes. In addition, even in the 45, the slug is out of the tube before the recoil impulse moves the weapon.

Started with the S&W Mod. 10 .38 4In. Barrel wheelgun then onto the S&W 4046 .40 to carry at work right after 9/11. Double stack mags are too big in the grip for my hand and always had a hard time when quals came up. Even Bought my own to try and adjust at my local PD range. Brought it down to Florida then dumped it and now use the Springfield XDe SC .9MM. Other XD SC striker fired Springfield in .40 was a hair too wide and not bad too shoot even though it was a double stack mag. I just didn’t like the way it carried on my waist

I have a S&W 4046 in my gun safe, one of the firearms that my department tested, then passed on in favor of the Sig P229 in .40. The department sold off the 4046s that they used for testing.
My everyday carry was a Springfield XD 9mm, until that horrible boating mishap.

After I retired back in 2007, Brinks went to one of the S&W models. When I started in 1970, Guys were carrying Colt Police positives and pencil barreled S&W .38’s untill there was an AD in Grand Central Station while a crew was dealing with the ticket offices and then they switched over to the S&W Mod 10 .38 bull barrels. Thing I like about the Springfield XDe .9MM (external hammer) is the decocking lever. I carry with the hammer down and if needed I can go into double and single action just like the Mod 4046

The 5906 looks a lot like my 39-2.
Bad idea to threaten a daughter of a gun-toting dad.
