Shocker: Chicago criminals buy their guns on the street

| June 18, 2016

Yeah, I’m speechless, too. The Chicago Tribune reports that University of Chicago Crime Lab conducted a survey of their criminals to determine where they got their guns. Strangely enough, despite what we’re told by the media and the politicians, none bought their weapons at gun stores, from the internet or gun shows.

About 70 percent said they got their guns from family, fellow gang members or through other social connections. Only two said they bought a gun at a store. It’s unclear how many of those surveyed were felons, but they can’t hold a state firearm owner’s permit — so they can’t legally purchase a weapon at a store.

Most of the men said they had possessed semiautomatic handguns and preferred magazines with a capacity of 30 or more bullets. Only a handful said they had possessed military-style assault weapons such as an AK-47.

Those surveyed might prefer handguns with a lot of ammunition because they aren’t good marksmen, Pollack said. The survey showed the men don’t normally practice on targets and don’t have a lot of knowledge about their weapons, he said.

The interviewers spoke with the 100 or so criminals face-to-face and they asked folks who were in the system for violent gun-related crimes. So, of course, the solution is to write more laws to which criminals will find a work-around.

WHAT?

The gun show “loop hole” is where their supposed to be getting them. Don’t they know that this interview and study is going to screw up the whole left wing talking points?

What to do now!

Seriously, I can’t understand how THEY can’t understand how this really works.

desert

The lying NWO dimwits…don’t give a ratzbutt where they get them, they just want everyone disarmed so their scumsucking buddies can come in and take us over! I don’t know about shitcargo, but I know it used to be in L.A. probably still is, if you wanted a gun, you went to a certain area and some clown was there selling guns out of the trunk of his car!

Sapper3307

Is buying a gun in a crack house considered a gun show loophole?

The Other Whitey

Wow! If only somebody had recognized this a long time ago…

“Most of the men said”
Huh? You mean to tell me there are no women criminals with guns? Gloria, call your office.

Lurker Curt

Weird- it didn’t get widely reported? I don’t understand…

Yef

And the mainstream media didn’t report on this?
Shocking.
Mind blowing.

So the story established a fact about Chicago last August. So now the democrats want to close the gun show loophole – “We Must DO SOMETHING!” – by doing something that won’t make any difference in the current resident’s home town. Okay, now I understand.

Where does one find a 30-round magazine for a semiautomatic handgun? I have seen one on a Glock but weapon was hard to conceal, draw, and fire. I’m going with the explanation that the people doing the interviews were firearms experts who know more about guns than I do and that explains this odd preference.

NavyEODguy

I have 3 of the thirty round magazines for my Glock. Got them when I was a cop. I love’m. After I got them, my Glock was my “go to” when we did SWAT raids. Loaded them up with sub-sonic rounds. Great for confined areas/CQB and less likely to penetrate walls, etc.

Purchased an old Uzi 3-mag pouch from an Army/Navy store. Fit perfect on the thigh.

IDC SARC

Yeah….I cal BS on that claim that MOST (i.e. more than 50 percent)are sporting 30 round mags on their pistolas. IME camera footage and descriptions simply don’t support that. If they were preferentially using such magazines, I’m sure it would be a an unrelenting point cited by the MSM.

David

well, it says they had semiautomatics and preferred 30 round or more mags…. I PREFER an independently wealthy attractive literate woman with a great lower and not a bunch on the upper… what I HAVE is a somewhat different story.

Silentium Est Aureum

Last year, 10 years ago, yesterday.

The facts haven’t changed.

IDC SARC

“So, of course, the solution is…”

New gun law proposals have nothing to do with decreasing crime.

A Proud Infidel®™

WTF GOOD are the existing Gun Laws that ARE NOT enforced?

IDC SARC

Exactly, and it seems to be a combination of not enforcing existing laws as well as the courts putting a revolving door on violent offenders…especially in the most crime riddled areas.

IDC SARC

Enacting castle doctrine in states that don’t have it or allowing armed guards in places they have been forbidden are examples of legislation that deters gun crime. Gun free zones invite gun crime.

Ex-PH2

But you see, GUNNNZZZZ! are tangible objects and decreasing crime is an amorphous thing called ‘an idea’.

A Proud Infidel®™

OUTLAW ALL GUNS, it’ll be EVERY bit as successful as the outlawing of Marijuana, cocaine, hashish, heroin,…

Ex-PH2

If you’re held up at gunpoint, which is illegal with or without a gun, by a gangbanger with a gun he got illegally, how does enacting more gun control laws stop the criminal from committing an illegal act?

My understanding of criminals is that they don’t obey the laws already in force, which means that they obtained their guns through channels that none of us would ever venture into. Since they are criminals to begin with, they don’t fill out forms for background checks or show an ID to the source of their weaponry.

Perhaps these panicky idiots wanting MORE gun control laws should watch Lethal Weapon II. The police detective was selling guns to criminals right out of the evidence locker. And don’t think that doesn’t happen.

While you’re sorting that out, I would like to add that I am so tired of these naive twits who live in some sort of cocooned existence where nothing ever goes wrong… everything is just fine… just maintain and even strain…. And they’ll come running to you for protection when the fecal deposits hit the propeller blades. Just watch.

I’m going to go find a brick wall and pound a melon on it. I’d pound my head, but that would give me a headache.

Kafir

Just like after the Navy yard shooting, anything to distract from the fact that a govt employee who passed multiple background checks despite multiple warning signs committed these crimes.

“SQUIRREL!”

HoneyBadger

Whhaaaatt? Say it isn’t so…

Yef

Cars kill people. Drivers don’t.

When I lived in Chicago, the crooks got their guns from the cops.

No F’n kidding.

There was a buy-back, and people turned in a bunch of guns, which then reappeared later on the streets.

Just sayin’

No one read the piece though except us because someone has outstanding research skills.

In the actual paper it was probably on page 457 under the “interesting things to know about spoons” article.

I would recommend that any new gun law proposal would have to be tried, tested and proven successful in Chicago before it even be considered for the rest of the country.

It will be interesting to learn the reaction of the antigun psychotics (that’s LIBERAL psychotics..google) when a squad or two of trained.experienced soldiers of alah appear at a crowded, packed (enter your own location) armed with REAL assault rifles (illegal, smuggled) and REAL bombs.Oh my,they say, we just have to ban those evil REAL,FULLY AUTOMATIC GUNS OF WAR! The airheads have no idea we ARE AT WAR and there are soldiers among us who would rejoice in killing us and our families. The nations attorney general, loretta lynch (are you sure she wasn’t a Country Western singer)is appearing, today, on television to lie about assault rifles. Gunup..ammo up.
