YGBSM. Again.
Everyone knows that there are certain places EBT cards can’t be used. Liquor stores, for one.
So places where marijuana can be legally sold (in states where such sales are legal, like Colorado) must be places where EBT card use is banned – right?
Well, actually . . . no. The DHS has confirmed to Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama that EBT cards can in fact be used at shops where marijuana is sold lawfully.
Senator Sessions has announced his intent to introduce legislation banning that practice. My question: why in the hell hasn’t DHS done that administratively already?
Oh, yeah – I remember now why. The linked article indicates that DHS claims they have “no authority” to ban the practice.
GMAFB. Since when has that stopped anyone in the current Administration from doing anything?
Category: "Teh Stoopid", "Your Tax Dollars At Work", Dumbass Bullshit, WTF?
To state the obvious, the stooped is strong in this administration.
I had to pass a drug test to get and keep every job I ever had. I am still in favor of clean monthly drug tests before anyone gets, Food Stamps, EBTs, SNAP cards, WIC, Welfare cash, Section 8 Housing or any government welfare program benefits. Somethings would happen. Drug use would stop to a degree or go more underground than it already is. (We aren’t winning ANY war on drugs and never have been.) People would have to decide to go hungry or give up the drugs and booze or better, getting clean, OR EVEN BETTER God forbid, going to work. IMHO.
Having to pass a drug test to get or stay on benefits used to be the law in Florida before the ACLU sued and got it overturned. (Does that surprise ANYONE?)
First they took away EBT card usage in titty bars.
Now they are taking away the ability to buy marijuana with them.
What’s next? No steak? No lobster?
Can’t do anything anymore.

These are the same folks that think the govt should take care of every aspect of their life. Ill bet they wont like the govt telling them “no” this time. Quite a double standard with these people.
How about an executive order to ban the purchase of marijuana with an EBT card? pResident Present used an EO to do away with the work requirements for welfare, I believe.
The POTUS had legal authority to do that. The Stimulus Act of 2009 gave the POTUS the authority to “temporarily suspend” the work requirement for Federal food assistance benefits. As I recall, the current POTUS did that shortly after the law went into effect – and has never reinstated them.

You type that like Barrycade gives a shit about what’s legal and what he does, Hondo. 🙂 Just sayin’, if he wanted to stop it, he could, today. But, Udall(D-Dumber) is running in Colorado, so I don’t see that happening.
UpNorth: just making the point that the POTUS actually had authority to do that via an EO – Federal law explicitly authorized him to make that call.
For some of the other things he’s done . . . IMO, not so much.
Maybe they need to get high after finding out that they aren’t getting any where near the level of support that Elon Musk will be getting from the government….
Hello friends and also Veterans and Active Duty. Thank you for all your service. I am not a Veteran myself. I just wanted to weigh in on a couple things here. I worked for 16 years of my life. I spent the last 4 years having surgeries and then finally having my right leg amputated in July of 2013. I am on Social Security and welfare. I hate it, but I would never survive any other way. I believe in drug testing for welfare. I don’t feel it’s right for the working class to have to submit to drug testing, but not those of us whom have to depend on the government. As far as this article goes, I don’t believe that they are using the cards at the point of sale. They go into these places and use the atm to withdraw their cash benefits, and then purchase their goods Lol. I believe there are places that it definitely should be banned.
EBT cards can’t be used for certain items. There are the little ghetto ass liquir stores all over Shitty parts of San Diego that say EBT accepted.
You can purchase unprepared food from there ( chips, candy, bread, milk, Lunchmeat) but you can’t buy alcohol or tobacco.
EBT cards aren’t unrestricted. Even in grocery stores there are several items that cant be bought.
True, Just An Old Dog – in theory. Just like in theory everyone is honest when they prepare their income taxes or file their VA claim.
In practice, not so much. A huge number of convenience and other stores have found multiple ways to game the system. Two examples are ghost sales (ring up prescribed items, give the customer a percentage of the sale in cash, pocket the rest) and swap sales (ring up one item, actually give the customer a lesser-valued but prohibited item). Or the all-time fave: simply buy the card from the customer for cash at a discount, then drain the card and pocket the difference.
I’ve heard that some places even have ATMs that will give cash advances against EBT balances. And once the customer has cash, they can buy any damn thing they want.
SNAP (old term: food stamp) fraud is rampant. And that’s not even counting the fact that many of those receiving that assistance are fully able-bodied and capable of working for their daily bread.
DHS is lying. They have been known to do that, before.
We need to have the Repubs take the Senate and keep the House this November. Then, the Repubs MUST take the WH, so that the political appointees in the executive branch can be cleaned out.
