Forced reset triggers cleared to be sold

The Trump administration has cleared the way for forced reset triggers to be sold. One major precedence for this move involved the Supreme Court’s determination that bump stocks did not convert firearms into machine guns. Brady United’s president, Kris Brown, described this move as an abuse of power that undermines sensible gun safety policy.

From NBC News:

The Trump administration has decided to permit the sale of devices that enable standard firearms to fire like machine guns, a move that one person familiar with the matter said was “by far the most dangerous thing this administration has done” on gun policy.

The Justice Department on Friday announced a settlement in a lawsuit brought by the National Association for Gun Rights. The lawsuit challenged an ATF rule banning “forced reset triggers” — devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire rapid bursts of bullets.

“This Department of Justice believes that the 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement. “And we are glad to end a needless cycle of litigation with a settlement that will enhance public safety.”

Vanessa Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Giffords, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, condemned the move.

“The Trump administration has just effectively legalized machine guns. Lives will be lost because of his actions,” said Gonzalez. “This is an incredibly dangerous move that will enable shooters to inflict horrific damage. The only people who benefit from these being on the market are the people who will make money from selling them, everyone else will suffer the consequences.”

But evertime they arrest someone with a Glock with a switch and extended mag its a “Aspiring rapper trying to turn his life around.”

Old tanker

A glock switch DOES convert it to a machine gun and MG’s are still restricted.

Slow Joe

Those national gun violence prevention groups do not know much about weapons, do they?

In four deployments I only fired my M4 in auto twice, both times to suppress an enemy position. You do all the actual liquid spilling in single shot.

5JC

My M4 didn’t have full auto. Only 3RB.

Great way to go “Yeehah! and blow off lots of ammo though.

Something about melting the barrel comes to mind.

Dad had a story about Sgt who was “three sheets to the wind” and mad at a German patrol trying to flank them. Said Sgt got on the Ma Duce and laid down on the butterfly, when the barrel began to glow he took it off & replaced it and when that barrel began to glow was in the process of removing the Ma Duce when the Germans decided to come down the hill with their hands on their head.

I don’t think I ever fired live ammo in full auto, outside of actual machine guns. When I played OPFOR, I liked to use the 3-round burst to simulate automatic fire, but that was with blanks.

Anyway, true, full auto is for suppressive fire. Semi-auto, usually controlled pairs, is for making the world red. Unless we’re talking WWI trench warfare or human wave attacks a la WWII Soviet or Korean War Chinese. Then full auto turns units into fertilizer really quick.

Graybeard

Isn’t current doctrine that the SAW gunner is there to keep the other guy’s heads down until the squad can get in position to eliminate them?

That’s what I understand AB Son’s job was in Iraq (before he was AB). Also what my father’s job was in WWII – provide suppressive fire while the unit was getting into position and/or to protect them from the Germans.

He did use quick bursts to drive a German mortar spotter out of a bell tower once. Rang the bell, and then the mortar fire quit.

We got to fire a 30rd mag full auto in basic training (1987). My foxhole buddy’s weapon jammed on the first shot so I shot his ammo too. We used a bipod and gripped the sling to pull it tight to the ground. Not super accurate but a shitload of fun!

rgr769

Tell me what gun violence have any such groups prevented?

KoB

Spray and pray doesn’t even work in the movies. See “A-Team” and/or “Star Wars Storm Troopers”.

Gun control means hitting your target…one round at a time.

rgr769

Poor example; they were all shooting blanks. In movies and TV only the good guys ever pretend hit anyone.

KoB

Damn those pesky facts….

In the muzzleloader times, a good, experienced Infantryman could fire off about six shots a minute/

Don’t threaten me (or the founding fathers) with a good time!

“…resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grapeshot.” I see that you have been briefed in on the defences of Fire Base Magnolia…

I’m assuming Sister Golden Hair surprise is your upper deck cannoneer… Hence the “surprise “.

Not that hard to turn a “Snuggle Bunny” into a “Gun Bunny”. It’s a lot harder to turn a “Sammich Maker” into a “Dishwasher”.

You forgot to load the buck and ball in the smooth bore, again.

How many times do we have to review this? 😉

Make your first shot count.

Graybeard

Conservation of ammo is a noble goal. As is efficient elimination of the enemy.

Green Thumb

Yeah.

A lot of gun nuts seem to forget that.

Forced reset triggers, binary triggers, bump stocks, you name it, are all novel ways to increase the rpm of your firearm. When I was getting started with my gun buying, it was stuff like the Hellfire trigger and trigger cranks that were all the craze amongst those looking to empty their magazine with minimal effect on target.

I’ve owned some fun guns. My MAK-90 was probably the fastest shooter I owned. The trigger was light but I fairly certain there were no other modifications to it. Regardless, I could empty my 75-round drums in about 10-15 seconds. I got the barrel hot enough to cause the leather on my sling to smolder a few times.

As others have stated, though, such devices aren’t exactly magical attachments that turn your gun into a mass casualty producing weapon. As range toys, they might be fun to use on occasion. Maybe with a lot of training you can find a practical use for them (but let’s face it, an unmodified AR-15 will still be more useful and reliable). If you’re spending your money on a forced reset trigger or anything else with the intent of using it against fellow Americans, you don’t need to own the gun in the first place.

Zero. That’s the grade for this waste of digital ink. A big ol’ fat 0.

The Trump administration has just effectively legalized machine guns.

Also a Zero, but for different reasons. Never weren’t not and one man, nor a group of men, can or will ever strip God-given, man-enumerated rights from a free people.

Bitch.

Turning money into noise.
Kinda like riding a Harley.
*grin*

Graybeard

But riding a Harley will also ruin your lower back more.

Try a vintage Jeep…

Nah, just get a back rest.
