AP: No end in sight for US in mideast
Pinto Nag sends a link from the Associated Press by the way of MSN which laments that there is no end in sight for the US in the war against terror;
“The Cold War took 45 years,” said Elliott Abrams, a longtime diplomat who was top Middle East adviser to President George W. Bush. “It’s certainly plausible that this could be the same. … It’s harder to see how this ends.”
For now, President Barack Obama seems to have bipartisan support as he prepares to outline his plans Wednesday for expanded operations against militants of the so-called Islamic State who have overrun large swaths of Iraq. His administration has cautioned that the effort could take several years.
Yeah, well, this isn’t the Cold War – the only reason there is no end in sight for the US is because we haven’t had a president in the last 69 years or so who has been willing to fight a war the way wars are supposed to be fought. The United States uses the excuse that “we’re more civilized than they are”, but how civilized is it to sit back in front of your flat screen TV and watch the horrors perpetrated on innocent civilians who are tortured or buried in mass graves because of the shade of their God.
We get outraged because some Marines urinate on dead enemy or pose with the severed limbs of suicide bombers, and some ugly troll chick pointing at genitalia in a naked pyramid. Granted, I would not have allowed any of those things to occur if I had been one of the leaders on the scene, but that’s no excuse to get our bowels in an uproar over such minor things.
At the end of World War II neither the Germans nor the Japanese were able to fight their side of the war another step. That’s how wars end. One side defeats completely the other side. World War II started because of some Wilsonian ideal that he could negotiate the end of the prior war. The Korea War is still going on even though actual large scale fighting ended 61 years ago. The Paris Peace Accords of 1973 which ended the Vietnam War made the North Vietnamese promise that they wouldn’t invade the South – that lasted two years. Of course, the US had promised to intercede if they did, that didn’t work out well, either.
If Saddam Hussein had been put out of office in 1991, George W. Bush wouldn’t have had a reason to invade in 2003 and Barack Obama wouldn’t need to go back today. We let the media end the first Gulf War with their “Highway of Death” hyperbole and Saddam turned around the survivors, re-fit, re-armed them and pointed them at the Shi’ites.
The reason that there’s no end in sight is because the enemy won’t fight a polite war like we want them to fight. We won’t give them a reason to stop fighting. The United States won’t make it more costly for them to fight than to throw down their weapons. The enemy doesn’t have capitols to surrender, or resources to seize. The only way to stop terrorism is to brutally kill them in large numbers – in the same manner that they took their Caliphate from Syria and Iraq. Four or five airstrikes every week won’t convince them to give it all up. “Cutting off the head” of their organization in the figurative manner has been a failing endeavor.
Americans, the squeamish little creatures that we are, can’t know how the war is won. We can’t get daily updates on the progress. We can’t have the media burrowing through the after action reports. Tell us that it started and tell us when it ends, but let us save our horror and outrage over the way the war was fought for reading the books afterwards. Otherwise, there is no end in sight in the war against terror.

Indeed the words unconditional surrender have warming effect on my heart, nothing says we are done fighting America like a message begging us to stop the carnage.
B-52s, millions of tons of napalm and I think we can send a great message. If your nation hosts those who would kill us we are going to kill everyone in your nation to get at the rat bastards who think they will wipe us out. Burning muslim kids to death should be no different than burning Japanese or German kids to death in city wide firestorms.
Roll in with half a million men and kill everyone on the streets after dark and anyone who looks wrong in the sunlight….kill them until their streets are red with blood and have them begging us to stop the bombing. Make them understand we will take over their countries for the next 70 years and we will make their military illegal until such time they prove they are no longer a threat to the world.
oderint dum metuant…
Well said…
You have my vote for CIC.
Ooooh! How brutal!
Yes, you are right. US Grant was called “Unconditional Surrender Grant” in the War Between the States. The ultimate Civil War general was William Tecumseh Sherman who believed that it was charitable to pound the enemy mercilessly as they would give up sooner and spare further bloodshed. We have forgotten (deliberately) that wars end for good when the enemy begs us to stop; not when President Ocockholster declares they are over. How often do we have to relearn truths that were discovered eons ago? The muzzies have been a problem for civilization ever since their caravan robbing, pedophile founder shagged his last goat. Sure, let’s talk. Right after the AC130 has made its last needed gun run.
Well said sir, well said.
The only way to stop a death cult is to give them what they want: death. Bomb them at a rate that would make General LeMay blush.
Mushroom Clouds across the Middle East.
THAT’S a happy thought for the day!!
Another forgotten part of WWII history is that of “The Werewolves”, fanatical Nazis that carried out guerrilla attacks on US Personnel after the German surrender. As I’ve read it, they occurred up to 8 years later. Back then, they were caught and executed like we need to do to enemy shooters and bombers today, but alas, the pols and bureaucrats, most of whom have never served, let alone even held or shot a firearm are making all of these snot-spined do-gooder touchie-feelie-sing-Kum-ba-yah unicorns-farting-rainbows ROE’s that will get more of us wounded and killed next time we have to go over there and wipe this administration’s ass for them!!
The biggest killer of Americans in Afghanistan is the Obama administrations ROE.
Very true, casualties have about triples since B. Hussein 0bama & Company took the helm.
“The Cold War lasted 45 years”.
New flash – it ain’t over. It just took a break.
The Middle East “problem” won’t ever end as long as we’re unwilling to wage total war against those savages. If you play by the rules, you die by the rules.
Time to change the rules…
There hasn’t been a war on this continent since the War Between the States.
Until a mass attack of some kind takes place in a major city, the current generation of children in adult bodies will not ‘get’ that there is a real threat, and the press will continue to pound on the ugliness of war, because they get off on that kind of thing. They groove on it. Brady’s battlefield photographs, along with those of Gardner, Lytle and others, brought home to the public the real horrors of war – that bodies lie rotting on the battlefield until someone buries them; that shrapnel from any kind of artillery, 19th century or 21st century, will shred a living organism to ribbons; that the wounded and not-wounded coming off the battlefield who would not talk about the ‘glory of war’, but instead took to the bottle as my great-grandfather’s brother George did after Pittsburg Landing, are unable to get rid of the images of the slaughter that they saw.
These uncomfortable and downright vile images, such as the ‘highway of death’, dead Confederate soldiers lying in trenches, napalmed villages in Vietnam, and the aftermath of the nuking of Hiroshima are what drives the anti-war machine and mindset in this country.
War is an ugly thing. There is no real glory in it. It’s too ugly to face the truth, that we humans have not completely evolved out of the aggressive hunter-predator state that made us the most successful apex predator on this planet.
But that primitive predator drive is what sets in motion a sociopathic group like ISIL/IS that thrives on bloodlust and terrorizing anyone in their path. They are the ultimate bully, and talking to them won’t put a stop to them. Poking at them won’t do it, either. They have woven a network that will only be undone when there are none of them left standing.
It’s them or us. Kill or be killed. And that’s the truth of it.
Well written. I couldn’t have said it better.
Thank you.
I left out the part about ideology, which also drives the bloodlust, but Mark L. added that here: http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=55119&cpage=1#comment-1776798
And if anyone thinks they are not here, waiting for a chance to raise havoc, wake up. Do you think flash mobs robbing stores are just a bunch of teenagers causing trouble?
Hopefully somebody at the Pentagon made a phone call to somebody in AFG and told them to quit cutting up all those MRAP’s. Might need those again.
Nope. The torches are still going all day, every day.
Obama’s staff is making a dangerous assumption in counting on natives to be our ground troops again. We betrayed a lot of good Iraqis when we pulled out. Left them hanging. Same for AfPak. I know I wouldn’t trust America again, she’ll ask you to fight terrorists but then throw you under the bus so Obama can get a 3 point bump in the polls.
Yeah, we didn’t fuck over any Iraqis. Just most of the interpreters. Same thing is happening in Astan right now.
I said this before, but it bears repeating. Bomb these crazy buggers until we run out of bombs. When the bombs run out, drop concrete blocks on them. When we run out of blocks, drop big rocks until the ground is ten feet deep in gravel. When all the bombs, concrete, and rocks are used up, drop paratroopers on them and kill them until the survivors crawl out and beg forgiveness. Forgive them and leave, taking anything of value we can get our hands on. Remind them that the whole thing will start again if they ever even think about conquest again.
