What a Surprise
The POTUS has ordered a 1% pay raise for members of the military in 2014. This is substantially lower than the 1.8% pay raise that would normally be required by the Federal Pay Comparability Act. Congress was notified of the decision by letter last Friday.
In that letter, the POTUS stated that he’s “strongly committed to supporting our uniformed service members, who have made such great contributions to our nation over the past decade of war.” I have to observe that ordering a pay raise just over half as large as called for by law seems to me a rather . . . interesting way of showing that kind of support. But maybe that’s just me.
In a separate letter to Congress, the POTUS also recommended that Federal civilian employees receive the same 1% pay increase. If approved by Congress, this would be the first annual pay raise received by Federal employees since 2010.
Is anyone surprised?

Last year, with the increase in social security taxes, my net pay actually went down with my pay raise. With my luck, the next 1% will push me into the next higher tax bracket.
Well, half of nothing is nothing, so it’s just fine. Isn’t it?
Just like Big Brother “increased” the chocolate ration from 25 grams per person to 20 grams per person in an early chapter of 1984.
Newspeak and doublethink carry the day.
Insulting.
But look at the bright side at least the “do nothings” will still get their gummint benefits!
Since nothing is to good for our troop, that is what we are giving them, nothing.
Is it also 2010 for DoD employees? I recall their pay was frozen by executive order before congress froze everyone elses.

#3 Right, because demand for office park cubicle potatoes is way down, the guys who get shot at for a living ought to just take nothing and like it.
Assclown
No surprise that Teh Preezy continues to treat the military like dirt. And in this next upcoming Syrian civil war, that’s what he’ll get — dirt.
I can’t speak for all the active duty military, but in my opinion I would at least like to know my country appreciates the sacrifices I’ve made to serve my country. I haven’t stayed In the military because of the benefits, the pay or even the recognition. I’ve stayed in because I love my country and it’s the least I can do. I don’t serve for glory , recognition or awards. I serve because this country has given me so much and the least I can do is give myself back to her. I wish we were paid equal to what we deserved, but I know we never will be. At the same time I don’t care what I’m paid because I believe in what I’m doing and I know that I can always say I’m proud of serving my country and I’m so very proud to be in the company of the the true American heroes.
@3 Go eat a fat baby’s dick troll. It’s not about the pay, it’s about the disrespect consistently shown by the Government towards the military, and broken agreements. The same piece of shit signing off on this “COLA” is considering sending them to another quagmire in Syria.
By the way O’bummer has consistantly screwed over the people on Social Security too. Since he has held office half the time of the Social security raises have been 0. Meanwhile he pushes for doling out to the lazy and illegals,
Go away child, I’m sure they need you on that fast food picket line to demand your 15 bucks an hour.
Turd.
Military Personnel and Vets continue to get screwed, but B. Hussein 0bama & Co. never cease to send as much as they can as quickly as they can to welfare leeches!!
@3 WTF? At a minimum, our soldiers should expect a cost of living increase in tune with actual cost of living rates since they cannot quit and seek other employment. For reference, SS recipients even got 1.7% this year:

Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for nearly 62 million Americans will increase 1.7 percent in 2013.

“Go Fuck yourself”
I’m a slow learner. You first. Show me how it’s done. Maybe I need a second demonstration.
One would think there will be an election next year.
1% pay increase is a slap in the face for “his” military.
But then again this is an anti-military commander in chief.
Indeed, cato. B. Hussein 0bama & Co. cut as much as they can from the US Military and Vets, but NOTHING gets in the way of him and his ilk enjoying any and every luxury and perk they desire. We vets are getting spat on in COLA pay raises, but has any member of Congress sacrificed even a penny of their automatic annual pay raise?
POTUS can order a 1% or a 1000% increase. He doesn’t order Congress, which has never passed an Obama budget. This is just pablum for the rubes to vote for Democrats.
