Marines encourage New recruits

| September 21, 2011
While I agree with Jonn Lilyea, whole-heartedly,  that the Dan Chois of the world are-and should be- unwelcome in the military.  The distinction is that he wants to be GAY first, and an OFFICER second.
I loved reading this NYT  article about Marine Corps recruiters who showed up at an “Equality Center,” following an invitation.
The Marines were the service most opposed to ending the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, but they were the only one of five invited branches of the military to turn up with their recruiting table and chin-up bar at the center Tuesday morning. Although Marines pride themselves on being the most testosterone-fueled of the services, they also ferociously promote their view of themselves as the best. With the law now changed, the Marines appear determined to prove that they will be better than the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard in recruiting gay, lesbian and bisexual service members.
That’s how it is– or should be– for members of the military.  We support our country and our country’s laws.  Our personal views may conflict with the law of the land, but when  we wore that uniform, our personal views were left at the door.  THAT is what’s wrong with the activists, and the Dan Chois.
So, we can get on blogs, talk to our families and fight, legitimately, for what we believe is right.  But the law is now the law and I admire the Marines for their initiative.
It’s important to note only THREE people were interested, female, and likely unqualified.  The whole point may already be moot.

What surprised me is that the Marines had to go out and look for recruits since there are so many patriotic gays anxious to serve – well, that’s what I’ve been hearing since 1993 when this shit started.

From what I’ve heard, the Marines should be swamped across the country with qualified gays swarming into the recruiting depots who can’t wait not one more day to serve openly.

“It’s important to note only THREE people were interested, female, and likely unqualified.” Well, the solution is obvious, the Marines will just have to lower their standards, so that the unqualified don’t “feel bad”./s
Much like the standards for SEALs, Airborne, Special Ops, fighter pilots, truck drivers and just about everything else, we can’t have anyone feeling bad because they don’t measure up. Wait, is that allowed now? Measure up may be taken in the wrong way.

“Equality Center”…this is wonderful. I can see where this is going.

And now that DADT is dead, we can’t just treat homosexuals like everyone else. We have to have special outreach programs just for them. How about special promotion tracks? Is that far behind?

Just one day after repeal and the homosexual ghettoization begins.

It won’t be long before we’re reading articles that explain to a dumb-downed audience that Special Forces is just not gay enough and they really need to get on the stick to root out the bigots who are responsible for this situation.

There’s a recruitment center not far from where I live. I drove past it today and the homos were jammed in there like sardines in a can. SIGN ME UP! They were screaming. They’re just so patriotic.

Well, no.

Big Don

Well, the Marine’s uniforms are FABULOUS…

That’s the Marines for ya. Whether its a fortified beach or a gay community center in Oklahoma, all they know is frontal assault.

This is just TSO poking the bear.

Ben#3, easy, or someone will show up to take over this thread, proclaiming that you’re wrong, he’s right, and you can’t argue like that, you have to debate according to his rules.

I’m sure he’d especially find fault with your thought that “We have to have special outreach programs just for them. How about special promotion tracks”? Even though you’ve probably hit the nail squarely on the head.

play nice

If the Jarheads have a quota they need to recruit tranies – then they’d get a two-fer.

What they omitted was that the recruiter showed each potential recruit a piece of paper on which was written, “Smile for the nice people watching. Now, get outta my face Tinkerbelle before I dropkick your goat-smellin’, maggot-infested, overused ass onto the street. Oh, and thanks for stopping by!”

Ben is wrong because canvassing events have absolutely nothing to do with “special outreach.” For example, recruiters have gone to summer concert events here in Atlanta, places where the stench of marijuana hangs over the entire field, not because they’re doing “special outreach” to miserable suburban middle class white potheads, but because they need to send bodies to MEPS.

As the article in the New York Times states, only one in ten applicants (and it sounds like they’re counting AC contacts as applicants) QUALIFY for enlistment. That isn’t even getting to whether or not that individual agrees to sit down to an interview, let alone go to MEPS and actually sign a contract.

All a recruiter does is outreach, to every place and group that might have qualified applicants. There is nothing special about it. Read the article. They were invited, and the RS sent their senior RI to accompany an 8411. What is that Master Sergeant supposed to do? “Uh, sorry Major, but I’m not going to go accompany the Staff Sergeant to this enhanced area canvass event where we could meet qualified applicants and help meet your monthly mission, and also get some training on how to field questions from future gay applicants, because I don’t want to be seen as pandering to teh gays.”

Get real. If tomorrow the military removed the moral qualifications pertaining to criminal history, they would be setting up tables across the street from prisons and county jails. If there were no moral qualifications pertaining to cocaine use, they would have been setting up tables outside of Charlie Sheen’s “Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour. It is their job.

Doc Bailey

they went in with those pretty uniforms and all those pretty colored ribbons and they looked FABULOUS!

In all seriousness aren’t official military personnel (in ANY official or unofficial capacity) supposed to stay away from politically charged environments like the damned bubonic plague?

Boo-
I liked this perspective. And you’re right…

I heard a report yesterday about John Edwards. Yep. I think he’s a total scum sucking pig. But the point of this is to say that while there were people protesting against his upcoming trial and how unfair (!!!)the prosecutor pointed out that it didn’t matter what anyone’s personal opinions were. What mattered is Edwards broke the law and that was why they were here.
