Mikey ticks off Ted Cruz. This should be fun.

| February 25, 2023

Remember a few weeks back when we talked about the Merchant Marine Academy curtained off a painting of Jesus walking on water Short Takes ? At the time they were leaving the painting in situ so cadets could see it behind the curtain; now it seems they figured out how to move it somewhere else. But in the process, the Superintendent has incurred the wrath of Senator Ted Cruz, and he ain’t happy with her:

Cruz sent the letter to (Ed. -Merchant Marine Academy superintendent Joanna) Nunan on Tuesday, writing he is “gravely concerned” about the “decision to cover and move the painting ‘Christ on the Water’” painted in the 1940s “which honors mariners lost at sea during World War II.”

“Despite the Academy’s history and tradition of displaying the painting—one that undoubtedly has provided comfort and solace to thousands of merchant mariners through the years—you recently chose to first cover it with a curtain, and now remove it from the Elliot See Conference Room altogether, in response to a single complaint. That complaint came in the form of an email from Michael “Mikey” Weinstein, the president of an organization known as the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.”

Cruz then blasted Nunan, saying he is “deeply concerned” by her “flawed understanding of the First Amendment to our Constitution” and that the time, “place and manner restrictions such as those Mr. Weinstein alleges are safeguards against government over-regulation of private speech.”

“But they are wholly irrelevant here because the painting is a government display, not a private one,” Cruz wrote. “The allegation that the painting somehow violates time, place and manner restrictions is an objective absurdity.”

Pretty sure that if you want to argue Constitutional law, Ted Cruz may be one of the last opponents you would choose. Man knows his stuff, knows the law, and has done multiple cases in front of the Supreme Court.

“The email alleged the Academy’s display of “Christ on the Water” violates ‘the salient time, place, and manner requirements of American Constitutional law’ and demanded that you remove it. This allegation’s ignorance of U.S. Constitutional law is surpassed only by the swiftness with which you capitulated to Mr. Weinstein’s demand, apparently within three hours of receiving the complaint.”

“Mr. Weinstein described the painting to you as ‘a disastrous display of Jesus supremacy’ and claimed that its placement caused him and others to be ‘viciously oppressed.’ Such obvious hostility towards faith has no place in America, let alone in one of our hallowed service academies. And frankly, to the degree you share such sentiment, it raises serious questions about your continued fitness to lead an institution dedicated to producing America’s future Maritime Service members.”

Ouch – that’s gonna leave a mark. I would predict that after ticking off a senior powerful Senator she had better be happy with the two stars she has now, but in this administration she may wind up as the next Chief of Staff.  However, it IS nice to see Mikey is in Ted’s crosshairs, isn’t it?

Freedom OF Religion = Classical Western Liberalism

Freedom FROM Religion = Classical Marxism.

What an asshole …and I’m talk Supr. Nunan. Someone who is not now nor was he a student at the USMMA makes a complaint, and she move at break-neck speed to appease. Since when does a government institution ever move that fast for anything? I notice that Weinstein always attack Christianity, He says he’s agnostic or what ever, but one religion ever seems to be in his crosshairs. I guess all the midshipmen passing through the academy had better things to do than be offended by a painting paying to the sacrifice of the graduates in WW2’s longest battle; The Battle of the Atlantic

Told y’all this crap wouldn’t stop with just “All Things Confederate” here in the United States of The Offended. If you really wanted to offend folks, put an Army of Northern Virginia Battle Flag into the hands of the Former Jewish Carpenter. After all, he was a Rebel against the establishment.

Believe or not believe, that is up to the individual. Should the painting have been moved when the room was no longer a Chapel? Yeah, probably. Should Mikey just go eat a bag of di@ks? Yep! Ted got more important things to look into? Without a doubt. Nunan done poked a bear, but since she checks some of the right boxes, will probably get promoted to bigger and better things.

Next up when they’re done removing all Confederate memorabilia, they start going after Native American.
No more Blackhawk helicopters. No more Apache helicopter.
No more Comanche housing area at Fort Hood Cavazos.
It’s coming. Just as soon as they get the Confederate statue out of Arlington National Cemetery

What about all the bodies? Since the land belonged to Robert E Lee it is all tainted. At a minimum they need to burn down his house, it’s like a having a fly in the soup. I can’t even see how anyone would want to be buried there.

NO WAIT, in order to make it politically correct, they would need to rename it to say, George Floyd National Cemetery to keep everything “woke”.

It will continue until normal people push back and push back hard.

Seems to me the proper response would be to restrict the room with the painting to cadets and Academy staff only. No civilians, especially with the name Weinstein, should be allowed to view or enter it. Problem solved.

A memorial painting to the lost Mariners of WWII.
You may as well toss a big blanket over the WWII Memorial in St Paul. Of course, I’ll be there with firearms, bayonets, bob-wire, and stink bombs to keep anyone from trying.

Mr. Cruz has his flaws (as do I), but I love his Cruz-missle attacks on idiots, (D)emon-rats, and tyrants. His calibrations are spot-on.

If I was to ever hear that Mikey Whinestein was on fire, I would show up to the location with logs and diesel fuel to make sure the little shit burned to a crisp.

There have been countless wrong interpretations of the 1st amendment. If people had some minimal reading comprehension skills and just READ THE WORDS, this would not even be a problem.
