First!

Hack Stone

Hack would have had it if he didn’t drop the mouse on his computer.

Roh-Dog

Hack Stone should be careful with his mice and their proximity to technological devices.
Their tails can get caught in the exhaust fan, don’t ask me how I know.

Roh-Dog

BOOOoooooMmmmM!
3/5 of the way to Ace!!!!
Have a great weekend y’all!
Since the ‘complaint’ box was full up, smoked ribs with the sweetest of bbq sauces, with a side of Tito’s and sweet tea. Cigars will be CT wrapped only, they’re the only good thing to come from this place as of late, besides apples.
Pray for America, please.

ChipNASA

Or if you were Black and a slave and according to Durr Commissar, you’d be almost a First person. or something like that.
DAMN Bruh, nice JERB!!!

Oh and I do believe 3 Firsts does constitute an “Ace” and any after are Double and Triple but you’d have to ask KoB. He4’s the resident FIRST mega-whore 😀 LOLZ

I was actually at my job sorting mail. AND it’s kinds early, it’s not the 1600 hours EST First we were all used to after it was originally 1200 or so.
Regardless, Kong of the Grats.

Claw

A Three-Peat is all one needs to have their name/time HIGHLIGHTED for those entries recorded in the Fine Corinthian Leather Bound, 24 Karat Gold Embossed Lettering, Coveted Book of TAH WOT Firsts.

With the high-lighting comes the “Ace”/ “Rock Star” status and any Four or Five Peats thereafter are just extra gravy on the biscuits.

“So let it be written, so let it be done.”

Roh-Dog

Noted. Thank you for your fastidious rules keeping of, and enumeratifications in The Coveted Book of TAH WOT Firsts (h/t to ME!).

And did you mention gravy?! I’ll drink to that!

SFC D

The Coveted Book of TAH WOT Firsts is made from old Cordobas?

Claw

Actually made from old Cordoba seats that were personally donated to TAH by Ricardo Montalbon./s

Corinthian Leather as I recall

Hack Stone

Fine Corinthian Leather, to be precise. As opposed to burlap seat covers that came standard with vintage 1989’s Jaguars.

Claw

Hmmm, so is what you’re trying to say is that Jaguar got their inspiration for seat covers from all those gunne sacs dresses that were all the rage in the late 60’s/early 70’s? Hell, our womenfolk back in West Hog Flats had been wearing gunny sack dresses since the early 40’s when they had to give up the good dress materials to make parachutes and wound dressing bandages out of it./s

Who Knew?

Graybeard

I don’t think I ever three-peated.
Ah well, such is life.

AW1Ed

-Dog,
Any and all complaints are welcome and will be addressed in the order of its arrival by our professionals at TAH WW HQ. After initial disapproval, you are free to re-submit your complaint within 90 days for further disapproval.
Have a TAH day,
AW1

Roh-Dog

Not with you, but with my reign. Apparently it’s customary for the ruling WOTter of Firsts (h/t ME!) to offer feast, beverage of the adult variety, and smokables. Notionally, mind you.
I would never dare to bother the Headshed with such trivial things like a complaint. Besides, can one improve upon perfection?

Graybeard

Dahaaannnggggg

Rats of the Kong to his FIRSTNESS and a 3 pete on the Coveted EARNED NEVER AWARDED TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread FIRST! I wuz rooting for ya Bro. Made sure I was out and about so there would NO Accusations of Gun Bunny Collusion in keeping the Title of FIRST in the (GO) Army (BEAT Navy) Family. Had some of my Boys in to help push the Trip Wire Perimeter out a bit at COP CRC TR and get another load of disposables and keepers out. Getting real close to putting that one on the market. Looking for a rich industrialist or carpetbagger to make me an offer. A Copperhead could be in the running, but scalawags need not apply. Lord knows there’s enough of them here already.

As I read these “tails” of mice and men, I gots my mind on a rack of them ribs you talkin’ ’bout…and some Titos…and a mason jar of that sweet iced tea…oh, oh, oh…and them gravy with biscuits that Claw Daddy made mention of. Do it have some sausages in it too? And you might as well bake me an apple pie while you at it…I gots some Vanilla Bean Ice Cream in the freezerator.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists in allowing him to claim the highly coveted and rarely awarded First Post Of The This Ain’t Hell Weekend Open Thread for Friday June 25, 2021. And in the unlikely event that Hack Stone is not awarded the highly coveted and rarely awarded First Post Of The This Ain’t Hell Weekend Open Thread, he has a team of lawyers from the esteemed law firm of Bernath & Associates who are standing by to submit a court injunction until such time that an audit of This Ain’t Hell servers is conducted to uncover collusion of the vast chicken wing conspiracy.

Regardless whether Hack Stone is awarded the title of First Post Of The This Ain’t Hell Weekend Open Thread for Friday June 25, 2021, he just wants to put this out there for all of you miscreants:

Hack Stone

Green Thumb

It would seem that you are in league with the False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics).

Only a “man” of his stature could produce the assplittery, two-holery, bullshittery and cocksuckery to be able to pull off such a feat.

Graybeard

Top 5!

Graybeard

Huh, actually I’m the 2nd loser.

Closest I’ve come in a long time.

Claw

Actually, you and Commissioner Wretched tied each other at 4:30 pm on the 28 Aug 20 WOT for a First.

So, Yep, about 14 months ago./smile

PS: I record all First attempts with the same time stamp and give a * to the winner.

Graybeard

Update on the Graybeard Compound self-sustainment project:
Harvested the first of my butternut squash – counted 41 of them, between 50# & 75# of squash first pickin’

Glad they keep easy.

Roh-Dog

Dayum! One question about butternut squash tho, is there any way to make them edible?
(this is typed half in jest. the gf loves them but idk…)

Graybeard

Well, Roh, Mrs. GB does a pretty good job on ’em, and Favorite 2nd Daughter-In-Law has a number of some excellent-sounding recipes involving sausage and cheese, so….

The plan (before First Contact occurs) is to try some of her recipe and share on a Thursday thread if they work well enough.

Only Army Mom

Sigh. The one Friday when I actually had the afternoon off, I was busily entranced reading all the TAH I had missed earlier in the week.

I was thisclose.

One more time

Hack Stone

Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the release of a film which inspired untold hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans who were not born into The Luck Sperm Club and as a result had to scrape out a meager living by enlisting in the military.

Sapper3307

Deleted scene , something the ARNY did nor approve?

Hack Stone

Hack Stone was out in Vegas, crashing at the Stately Manor of Rosetta Stone’s niece. Her husband was active duty closing in on 20 years of active duty in in The USAF, when Hack learned that HE NEVER SAW STRIPES!!! Pulled it up on video on demand, and it had this deleted scene, with a few additional scenes, such as them pulling mess duty. Given the entirety of the movie, Hack could understand how this ended up on the cutting room floor.

Anonymous

Yeah, that was worse that “double secret probation” without redeeming realism, quality or much else.

Anonymous

See? Much better.

MarineDad61

Hack Stone & Sapper3307,
When I saw STRIPES in the theater,
I specifically remember this Hulka confrontation scene,
where Winger (Bill Murray) insults Sgt. Hulka
over his (E-7) rank and (28) years,
and only making it to basic training Drill Sgt.

By the time Stripes got to HBO/cable and VCR tape,
the 3 second insult in the middle of this scene was gone.

Anonymous

Much better gone.

Commissioner Wretched

Seeing as how I’ve missed out on the coveted FIRST once again, I offer a sincere hat=tip to Roh-Dog and congrats on being 3/5 of the way to becoming a WOT Ace! To celebrate, how’s about some trivia? DID YOU KNOW…? Was an automobile created which was controlled by joysticks? By Commissioner Wretched I received quite a bit of fan mail from people who enjoyed the “silly laws” column. To each of you who took the time to write, my deepest thanks! I’m very happy you enjoyed it. And I am appreciative of those who sent silly laws, some of which I didn’t even know. A follow-up column of silly laws will appear in the future, including some of the ones you’ve contributed. Now that the loony legal stuff is over for the moment, however, it’s time to get back to some serious silly trivia. So dive right in and enjoy this first week of summer with the stuff that makes you smile! (Or frown.) Did you know … … an Egyptian pharaoh used to keep several of his servants covered in honey? Pharaoh Pepi II (2284 BC-2216 BC) would slather honey over servants in an effort to keep flies away from his royal self. (I guess you really can catch more flies with honey than with … uh … yeah.) … Adolf Hitler’s nephew wrote an article about why he hated his uncle? The German dictator (1889-1945) had a strained relationship with his nephew, William Patrick Hitler (1911-1987), son of his half-brother Alois (1882-1956). After seeking some kind of government job from his famous uncle and being refused, William fled Germany in 1937 and settled in the United States. Two years later, he penned an article titled, “Why I Hate My Uncle,” which was widely published. And it wasn’t the only time William was a thorn in the Führer’s side: During World War II, William served in the U.S. Navy, after a grueling process to get security clearances. (We all have that one relative …) … one of the most popular Christmas songs was recorded by a teenager? “Rockin’… Read more »

Pretty interesting video. Depending on where you are sitting, the other guys had it easier.

Meanwhile, over in A’stan history is beginning to repeat itself and Taliban aren’t waiting this time ( https://finance.yahoo.com/news/saigon-moment-biden-feels-political-112926135.html )… although AP couldn’t tell ARVN from NVA just in ’75, same ol’ stuff is starting to happen as we pull out (left 1,500 to adise/secure stuff back then, only 650 now):

Like rats off a sinking ship. Don’t think we’ll see any Major Buang-style flights out though.

Probably not… and not for being way far inland, I’m sad to say.

Commissioner Wretched

Fascinating story! I like the Dark 5 series, including Dark Skies and Dark Space. Good stuff! Thanks, Anon!

Hack Stone

Thanks for the video. Any idea on the children? Probably at least one joined the US Military. Hack Stone put a Vietnamese refugee in the Corps, saw a few years later coming back on West PAC cruise.

Anonymous

Dunno. Wouldn’t be surprised if they joined-up though.

Well good news! It looks like Captain Chambers did not get court-martialed:

…In January 1975, Chambers became the first African American to command an aircraft carrier, the USS Midway, serving as the ship’s commanding officer until December 1976. After being promoted to rear admiral, Chambers later served as commander of Carrier Strike Group Three and later as interim commander of Carrier Strike Group Four. He finished his career as vice commander of the Naval Air Systems Command….

I remember seeing clips of the helicopters being pushed overboard, but never knew why until now.

the uss okinawa lph 3 was involved in op frequent wind and and op eagle pull back in 1975. frequent wind was the evacuation of saigon and op eagle pull was the evacuation of phenom penn.

USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike group has left the Pacific to be in Indian Ocean near Afghanistan for next few months, if that means anything.

FakeBook Memories…. (provided to me by the Book of the Fake)

5 years ago today,
I stayed at the High Desert Inn in ELKO, NEVADA.

I had NO idea what would go down (online) only 3 years later,
because of this local Elko Daily Free Press article.

[Local Inspirations:
Les Brown on bringing back the forgotten]
SERENITY K. ORR Elko Daily Correspondent Jun 15, 2019
https://elkodaily.com/lifestyles/local-inspirations-les-brown-on-bringing-back-the-forgotten/article_fe520b20-846d-59e9-9ddb-631b04c8d3ea.html

Hack Stone

Remembering those who have fallen in defense of our country is a noble effort. Damn shame that Les Brown Stain felt it necessary to tarnish any positive results with his lies of false military accomplishments. Still can’t comprehend why someone would take an honorable service and embellish it to the point of becoming a caricature other than the person has narcissistic tendencies that require constant attention and approval of his peers. What’s wrong with with saying “I enlisted, I did they job they needed me to do and went where they needed me, and although I never deployed to a combat zone, I was prepared to go when they sent me. And now I continue to support the troops with my POW/MIA Awareness”? Now, the whole organization has gone to shit because Les Brown claimed to be something that he is not, and his friends and cohorts gave cover for him. And that is the legacy of Les Brown in Elko Nevada.

MarineDad61

Hack Stone,
Yes, yes, and yes.

More, the self inflicted stain on Elko VFW Post 2350,
that approved ineligible Les Brown to join,
and then the VFW Department of Nevada,
that never (re)verified Les Brown’s VFW membership eligibility, required by By Laws, when they put Les Brown into a (state) Department committee chairman position, for years.

Whether to boost the VFW roles and the dues,
or out of sympathy for National Guard and reserve members that were activated and deployed to non-combat, support, and other locations in states and VFW ineligible countries….

Shame on those VFW members, posts, and Departments
that open their membership doors (and offices)
to ineligible veterans.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone deployed to Saudi Arabia in mid August 1990 for Desert Shield. Assigned to BSSG-7, Hack Stone was in the rear, or what was the “rear” by Marine Corps standards, fixing radios. Until late October on a Thursday afternoon when the 1st Sgt came up to him and asked “Are you ready?” Hack Stone replied “Yeah, I’m ready. What am I ready for?” 1st Sgt replied “You’ve got orders to go to Radio Technician Course. Class starts on Monday.” Hack Stone turned in his combat gear, caught a ride to Prince Sultan Air Base, and Friday morning his was on his way back to the States. Hack would have preferred to stay downrange, because that’s why Marine’s enlist. Landed in California on Saturday morning, checked into MCCES, and they immediately treated Hack Stone like a piece of shit, because he was now a student (again), and nine years of active service don’t count for shit at MCCES if you are a student. Point being, Hack served honorably, did his job, supported his fellow Marines, that is enough to earn a bit of respect. No embellishment necessary. Some day Hack will tell share the story of the dickwad supply asshole who tried to get Hack to pay for the five tent stakes and guideline left in Saudi Arabia.

Claw

“dickweed supply asshole” – The job description on my last EER./s

Anyway, you should have just paid up. The whole deal (after 10% depreciation) would have been about $3.96.

8340-00-261-9749 Stake, Tent, 9 inch, Orange
8340-00-263-0255 Line, Guy, 7 foot

Hack Stone

You must’ve been that dickweed!!! That’s exactly what he said. What happened was that Hack Stone deployed with CSSS-7, attaches to BSSG-7 in the sandbox. Hack’s preprinted inventory issue receipt was back in the Stumps, so when the Supply Guy in Saudi took Hack’s 782, he had blank forms and had to hand write each item turned in. The guy dutifully entered each item, except for the guide line and five tent stakes. Hack Stone pointed out to PFC Dickweed that he could clearly see that a shelter half and three tent poles were turned in, so what the fuck would Hack do with a guide line and five tent stakes? The icing on the cake was that the Marine Corps stopped our ComRats when we left Stumps, but the whole time we were down at Pendleton getting absorbed into BSSG-7, about a week or so, we were still paying cash for our chow.

11B-Mailclerk

Sad indeed. Johnny Hurley, the hero who shot a rampaging cop-killing idiot was himself killed by responding officers as he held the idiot’s rifle.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/colorado-samaritan-gunman-cop-rifle

If you choose to intervene with a gun and stop a violent crime, understand that the police will see you as a person with a gun in a known violent crime scene. Have a game plan for not looking like a perp/target.

Note, other would-be helpers may also see you as a threat, not a hero.

This is why you need to be able to re-holster, one handed, without major hassle.

Situational awareness is essential. Especially when you think it is “over” .

The fight isn’t really over until you are at home, in bed. (And maybe not then, depending on how your brain processes such events.)

Kudos to Mr. Hurley. Thank you. Rest in Peace.

SFC D

The fact that Mr. Hurley was holding the shooter’s AR-15 didn’t help much. RIP Mr. Hurley.

They’ll kill anyone “resisting” (either resisting them or the bad guys) and call it a day.

Deadly force must sure be fun when you don’t have to tell ours from theirs.

I will stick with New Balance, who makes some shoes here in the USA, and others in places other than China.

New Balance makes better shoes, too.

“We are a brand of China and for China.” Way to suck ass for daily business. (What does it feel like to have no self respect? I want to ask ’em.)

Claw

Posted for anybody who wants to put their ninja skills to work:

Saw a picture yesterday of a supposedly retired Army CSM w/24 years service wearing unit citations as his top row of personal decorations on a set of Army Blues. He was a visitor to the Moving Vietnam Wall in San Angelo, TX. However, the picture was taken back in 2007, but it was used as a cover picture to an article about the Wall That Heals posted by the Army.mil on line publication (that we all hate) on 7 May 2015.

Anyway, the article said he (Brian Waters) was a Vietnam 101st Airborne Division veteran.

So, Good Luck if anybody wants to try and track him down.

MarineDad61

Claw,
As we’ve seen,
old veterans dressed shabbily can go either way.
Our recent example, retired janitor Mr. Bob,
who put on someone else’s uniform,
and stuck his own shadow box medals on it (real and phony).
He was mostly legit, and Rambo in Vietnam for a week,
but not the Triple Rambo he laid on school children.
And as a result, he was graced with 2 pages here.
https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=108109

Claw

Well, it wasn’t a case of being dressed shabbily, I just don’t believe he was ever a CSM or any type of a Non-Com. Here are some of the things I noted:

Brass US and specialized branch insignia for the lapels missing, as well as distinguished unit crests missing.
Loops/clasp for the Good Conduct Medal missing.
No campaign stars on the Vietnam Service Medal.
No Arabic Numerals on either the NCOPD ribbon or the Overseas Service ribbon.
Absolutely no spacing at all between the unit citations he was using as a top row to that Expert Infantry Badge he was sporting.

But the photo is out there in the public domain for use, but I don’t possess the computer skills to link it to TAH. Oh, I forgot to mention, he was sporting the ribbon for a Purple Heart in his “rack”.

So, all in all, I’m thinking he was never an e-9./smile

MarineDad61

Claw,
Purple Heart certainly ups the stakes here.

I found the photo easily enough with a simple Google Fu.
Here is the photo link, for everyone to see.

He is also wearing a bow tie in broad daylight. No for real CSM would do that, unless he was suffering from dementia and his minder put his uniform together for him.

Green Thumb

And an EIB with a PH.

While you can wear he EIB with a PH (if you earned it – your choice), I never have sen it.

No BSM either it appears. A senior NCO with a PH and no BSM?

Yeah. No.

Remember that turd that was busted that drove the Wall? He was a truck driver or such from Alabama. I wonder if this dude knows him.

I also wonder if this dude can walk. That hand to the face screams: “Oh shit. I just got caught!”.

Claw

Yeah, I remember that turd truck driver. His name was Lyins (Lyons) or something like that. Claimed to be a four tour Marine that charged up Hamburger Hill, but in actuality was a 19 month Navy Seaman Apprentice who got a bad paper boot (with no NDSM) and never set foot in Viet of the Nam. But that didn’t stop him from getting the job as a VFW Post Commander in Alabamy.

As far as for Waters, seeing that a supposed e-9 has zero Meritorious, Commendation or Achievement medals in his ribbon rack after at least a 24 year career is kind of a “No-Go At This Station”./s

MarineDad61

Good afternoon, everyone.
I see the MP and VG pages on Jason Brett West went POOF.
I do know that he produced a Marine DD-214 for the Gulf War in 1991.
But did he produce anything to justify his collection of claims?
Or, were the pages dropped out of sympathy for an ill Gulf War Veteran,
even as they (his wife and sister in law)
pushed a sucky full of lies GoFundMe?
