Another of Ours Hit Hard- Update

| May 12, 2020

The very good news:
Fyrfighter reports his dad is on the mend, and thanks all of you for the kind thoughts during a very difficult time.

The not good news:
He’s asking once again for our support for one of his own driver/engineers. A former Navy diver, Oly, was medically retired due to an injury suffered during a dive. Since then he’s been a firefighter for over 35 years. A little over a week ago, he started having some weakness on duty along with some other signs of a stroke. Turns out he has a brain aneurysm that threw a clot, resulting in a TIA or mini stroke. That has resolved, but the aneurysm is serious, and he is scheduled for surgery next week. The docs are saying 3-6 months off after that, though the fact that he’s 60, there’s a good chance that he won’t come back to the fire department.

So once again, however you roll, say a prayer, send kind thoughts or karma, light candles, burn some incense, raise a glass, or whatever gets you through the night. Send Oly and Fyrfighter some TAH love and support.

Damn, thoughts and prayers…

OldSoldier54

Lifting up my request to Him.

Prayers up for Oly and his family.

Glad to her the good new about Dad to Fyrfighter. Prayers continue for the rest of the family dealing with their loss, too.

Great news for our Brother Fyrfighter’s father. The Great Spirit does hear and heed the prayers of the True Believers. We Will continue with what has been working.

For Fyr’s Compatriot and Comrade, Oly, on the fire line, we will offer up the same. I was where he is now 2 years ago. Oly’s work here is not yet finished and he is blessed to have those around him that recognized what was happening and got him to immediate help.

If you do not know all of the impending symptoms of a stroke, AND what action you need to take IMMEDIATELY then you need to learn them backwards and forwards. AND BE PREPARED TO GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. And yes, it can happen to YOU! Knowing what was happening to me and seeking that immediate help is what saved my life, twice. I will have to deal with the effects of those TIAs for the rest of what life I have left. And unless a jealous husband gets to me FIRST, a stroke is most likely what will take me out. And I was not in what they would call a high stroke risk group. Trust me on this, you DO NOT want to go thru a stroke.

Hang tuff, Oly, you got this. There is a reason you are still here.

Oh, no….

Prayers up, double time. Wishes for a smooth recovery, too.

He is a merciful God, I pray for His healing for the bravest among us. May He shine His light upon the pain and suffering of our Brothers and Sisters, and by doing so, extinguish their illnesses so once again they may take Your Decree, Oh Lord: to fight the goodest of fights.

Thunderstixx

Prayers up.
I have a request for the crew, if it’s OK to ask here.
A very good friend, a beautiful 35 year old Strawberry Blonde lady with 5 kids and Lupus just got out of the ICU for the Covid Virus.
I don’t know her progress, but she was in and out of the ICU twice in the past four days.
She coded three times and is back on the Med Surg floor here in Austin.
She could use some prayers.
A lot of them…..
Thanks
Thunder

Fyrfighter

Prayers up Thunder!

OWB

Done. Will repeat with enthusiasm.

Prayers out!

The Other Whitey

Offering prayers for your FAE, Fyr. Also hoping yours is a department that takes care of its personnel. There’s far too many organizations out there that regard their people as an expendable resource.

Fyrfighter

Thanks TOW, yeah, we’re a small place, and our Chiefs are all about taking care of us as best they can. Don’t know details of what they’re doing, but I know they’re on top of it.
Congrats again on your beautiful baby girl!

The Other Whitey

Good to hear, Fyr. Unfortunately our chain of command is dominated by a guy who likes to throw big funerals so that he can get in front of the cameras. We’ve had five deaths in five years, yet somehow that guy keeps his job. And he’s sufficiently blatant with the yearly spectacle funeral that I and a long list of others have all made it known that should anything happen to us, that asshole is to stay the fuck away from our wives and kids.

Fyrfighter

I used to work for that guy at my old department.. cross between a used car salesman and a shyster lawyer.. Sorry to hear it brother, it’s miserable having to work for someone like that who does anything but uphold the ideals of the service, yet seems to prosper from such assholery..
My Dad summed it up for me once (he was running a waste-water treatment plant at the time).. he said “everyone knows that cream rises to the top, but let me tell ya, shit floats too!”…

The Other Whitey

In the old days we worked for honest assholes who treated us like crap but never lied to us. Now we work for a lying asshole who can’t be trusted to tell us the sky is blue, regularly screws us for political gain, would happily kill ten of us every week if it furthered his agenda, and acts like he’s doing us some huge favor the whole time. We’re supposed to talk about how great he is on the rare occasion when his agenda happens to coincide with our best interests. I prefer the honest assholes of old.

Good to hear that you guys aren’t having that problem. Leadership makes a huge difference from the top down, especially at a time like this. Hope your FAE pulls through. It’s good to know that he’ll be taken care of one way or another.

Fyrfighter

Thank you all for your prayers and wishes! I haven’t talked to Oly today, but I sent him a link to this post. I’m sure he’ll appreciate knowing that you’re all pulling for him.

Fyrfighter, My prayers go out to your Dad and MPO Oly. I am fortunate that in 30 years of being a Volley, I walked away with a broken heel and an abraded cornea which occured over a period of time, so again, I wish your Dad and oly a speedy recovery.

Good friend of mine has been dealing with an
aneurysm for a couple years now. Two surgeries
and he may need a third but his family and friends
have been the greatest help.
Best wishes to Oly and family. When I pray for my
friend I will not forget Oly. Cool name.

Had one burst in my head 34 years ago. Surgery fixed the break, but as the neurologist said later, “Every time you touch the brain, it leaves a bruise that does not heal.” Everybody has different problems afterward. I had prayers from a dozen denominations in more than half a dozen states, so I know the power of requests to God. My prayers to Oly and his family.

Thunderstixx

I agree with you. The power of prayer is phenomenal.
I’m a recipient of that power and I know people that are also taken aback by the inherent power of those thoughts and prayers.
We live in a wonderful, beautiful place we call The Universe and knowing the vast scope of it and still knowing that our Higher Power cares about each one of us.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Our very best to you and your Fyr, so sorry to hear of these tough experiences you’re dealing with at the moment.

So happy to hear your dad is on the mend.

As always you and everyone here at TAH our on our minds every day.

Berliner

You and yours are in our prayers.

Fyrfighter

You all are the best, and your response is greatly appreciated! I tend to keep things to myself, so reaching out like this is odd and uncomfortable for me, especially twice in a month. Thank you all for your support, it means the world.

Graybeard

Praying for Oly, Fyr. May God keep and protect him, guide the doctors hands and thoughts, and bring him safely back to you all.
