The novel corona virus, a/k/a Covid-19, per this virus researcher, will burn itself out within a few weeks to months. It does not like sunshine, hot weather, or humidity.
Good read, worth a look. Someone who isn’t panicking over this nonsense finally speaks up, even if it was not done officially. This should make the news media panic attackers quite unhappy, because they won’t have swaths of dead bodies to report on.
The issue is with the media. We all know that. They are looking for something that will cause a panic, because that is what they feed on, like some sort of parasitic bug. Well, it ain’t gonna happen quite the way they hoped it would. No mass graves will appear, no devastating reports of biologicals escaping the lab and infecting wide swaths of population, no hazmat suits all over the place, although one fellow did wear one to board his passenger flight a little while ago.
There’s another thing: the Covid-19 bug has no consistent incubation period in the people it infects, per news reports. It hides and then makes people sick, and then there’s cleanup following, but it turns out to be only one person here and there, which means those people are more resistant to it than others. Most of the panicky stuff is stirred and promoted by the media, whereas the NIH and other groups are telling us to use some freaking common sense, and precautions are being taken everywhere.
Mind you, I am NOT downplaying the obvious danger of this bug, but making it clear that it does have a weakness like all cold-weather bug (flu, colds, rhinoviruses, etc.) and if some people are surviving an attack by it, it is possible that the virus is not as fierce as it is alleged to be. If various countries such as Italy are canceling festivals, just as the Saudis have canceled the pilgrmiage to Mecca this year, there is no harm in being cautious, period. If I thought I had been exposed to it, I’d have the pantry and fridge and freezer stocked well ahead of time, anyway, and tell people to stay away from me.
The Chinese have a real issue because it originated with them, and they don’t like Bad Publicity about such things, but they’ve taken appropriate action (even if they fudge the numbers of The Dead). Unfortunately, absence of workers from factories means no goods to ship to the product-hungry crowds in the good old US of A, so Apple’s phone sales are down and will continue to drop and they can’t make the excuse that your old phone is slowing down just to sell you the newest model. No phones to sell, no cash in the cash drawer – that’s the bottom line.
My God, think what would happen if Starbucks couldn’t get coffee beans because of a blight fungus of some kind invading the coffee orchards!! The HORROR!!! People would have to drink tea or soda pop or go back to Nescafe instant…. Or even make their own coffee at home.
Keep you eyes and ears open and take news reports with a grain of salt. This is going to be a very interesting ride for everyone.

I said that this was not that bad, serious but not bad and a co-worker said, tell that to the dead. I asked him, how many people have died in the US from this, blank stare. I told him that more people have died from the flu that this ginned up Chinese Virus. Calm down, wash your hands and use common sense.

A Navy Chief schooled me on the “right” way to brew coffee. One and and a half to two TBLS coffee grounds per 6oz of water, depending on the grind (less for finer), a fat pinch of salt on top of the grounds, brew.

If you want to worry, Lassa fever has a 23% mortality rate and is on the rise. Only in Nigeria and less than 1000 folks, but it’s deadlier than Covid19 by about 10:1. Lassa is part of the same family as Marburg and Ebola, by the way. Panic away!

Naturally, it’s ONE scientist saying it, but these are just MY pair of pennies: EVERYONE LOVES A CATASTROPHE. The parasites/vultures FEED off of them. Some were even saying this would “cost Trump the election.”

In my mind, the most pronounced effect of this crisis so far has been the economic disruption caused by U.S. (and Western) dependence on the flow of PRC parts, components, and end items to supply our consumer economy, as well as our dependence on PRC pharmaceutical items to support our medical/health infrastructure.
It is well past time to “decouple” from our dependence on the PRC for all these things, and to build up our consumer and pharma manufacture and assembly infrastructure in the USA and its territories. There should be no more dependence on the Chi-Coms for anything. As with many other things, POTUS Trump had pegged this correctly from the very beginning…

I cannot agree MORE with you on that statement. We need those jobs here, not over there. If the factories shut down indefinitely, something will happen to bring that stuff back here, and the argument that the rare earths/toxic ores needed to produce the electronics are BAAAAD stuff will go right out the window.

22,000 people have died of the seasonal flu this flu season vs. 22 people dying of the Covid-19 virus IN THE USA.
Just keeping tabs on who is reporting the reality of this and who is not. Get your flu shot if you haven’t done so already, wash your hands, and put your used kleenex in a ziploc bag for disposal.
Otherwise, the panicky stuff is mostly manufactured by the lamestream media and the usual conspiracy wackos.
At some point in the next 3 months every hospital be in the US will be occupied and 2+million people could die unless this thing is slowed down.
You can keep banging drums about ‘just a bad flu’ and ‘wash your hands’ all you’d like but this ain’t gonna be pretty for many, many people.
I’m not advising panic or alarm, just vigilance. Get some stuff stocked up, talk to your family and friends, get right(er) with the Great Architect.
At some point during the next three months, Roh-Dog, this “bug” will fade and die out. IT does not like warm/hot weather, high humidity, or sunshine. Spring is here in most places and summer is vaguely forecast to be unfriendly to a bug like this one. I will make a huge jug of iced tea and sit on my front steps, counting crows and ravens, the Corvid scavengers that clean up our messes.
If anything, it will be replaced by another bad seasonal flu virus, and another scary story will start up in the press about pandemics, and we’ll have another episode of people spouting stupid stuff on TV, because they like being spooked.
Wuhan is roughly 30°35’, right around Jacksonville FL latitude. If people don’t refrain from spreading this, weather be damned, it will spread. This thing spreads PDQ and has a high serious complication rate. The shear volume of people requiring medical care and lack of supplies will cause chaos.
If the virus spread is not controlled the rate of infections get out of control quickly and if still present in the fall, next winter we’ll have the same problem.
Again, not advocating panic or fear, prudent steps need to be taken to slow the rate of infection.
Ex is doing what she usually does; seek out outlier sources that help he to confirm the narrative she wants to be true.
That is a luxury she had for climate change because she is too damn old for the long term effects of climate change to mean much to her.
This virus is the opposite. It is coming to your neighborhood or work or family very fast and it is extremely dangerous to old folks.
Stop listening to nitwits downplaying this virus.
Take this virus seriously, take proper precautions, and prep for the damn near inevitability you or close to you will contract it.
This virus does not listen to Fox News, it it not registered Democrat, does not give fuck all about your politics, and will ruin your month if not your life. Worse it could take someone you love. Someone you assured this virus will blow over in a few weeks or months,
Even if the R0 drops over the summer it will come back with a vengeance in the late fall.

Also, plan for severe economic impacts. We are almost certainly going to be in a recession. And since recession is a trailing indicator the economic impact will hit you long before anyone calls it a recession.
