Update: Iran and the Strait of Hormuz

There may be a solution underway to get Iran’s grip on the Persian Gulf eliminated.

The UK is proposing a UK-led mission that is meant to stop the harassment and seizure of non-Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Per the article:  Briefing Parliament on the budding crisis, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt accused Iran of “an act of state piracy” that will be met with stern international resolve.

He announced precious few details but said Britain’s European allies will play a major role keeping shipping lanes open. One-fifth of all global crude exports passes through the narrow strait between Iran and Oman. – Article

It may be that the fustercluck a couple of years ago with the Navy’s riverine-force boats ill-equipped and not properly maintained or fueled, and crewed by people who were not properly trained and were quite unprepared for a 200-mile jaunt to the south encouraged the Iranians to believe that the USA and its allies were/are helpless in the face of real emergencies.

Likewise, the fact that tanker crews in shipping lanes don’t usually come armed or prepared to repel boarders may have something to do with that attitude.

If the UK can make this succeed, fine by me. As noted in the article, the tanker crisis is happening in the last days of PM May’s tenure, and whoever succeeds her, whether it is Boris Johnson or his opponent, needs to be as blunt and stubborn as can be, and a good poker player.

Iran seems to be itching for a fight so that they can be the victims. That’s not a good idea, because Jimmy Carter isn’t in the White House these days. He had no idea what or where the Strait of Hormuz was located.

We got yer back this time. If ya want nation building===fuggettaboudit!

Whatever is done, it must

be publicized such that the Mad Mullahs cannot conceal or deny the events.

Be humiliating to the regime, preferably not to Iranians in general, and show the powerlessness and incompetence of the Mad Mullahs.

Our opponents are the -Mad Mullahs-. The average Iranian is not the root problem.

Slow Joe

I disagree.

“Every nation has the government they deserve”…or something like that.

It is a people duty and obligation to fight for their own freedom.

It is the Iranians fault that the mad mullahs are in power. The tree of liberty and something about patriots and tyrants…

Fyrfighter

True Joe, it must come from them, but the 13 Colonies got help from the French…

The people of Iran do step up, but if they ask fr help, they should get it. Look at it the way welfare should be, “A hand UP, not a handOUT”

You are Infantry, right? Fight the mullahs, or fight the mullahs plus the whole population?

Fight smart.

Keep poking mofo. You about to find out how sharp the beak and claw of the Eagle can become. You want to cry about being the victim? You may find that you have something to cry about.

You may even find that the staff of the Union Jack gets in the way of Man Love Thursday.

Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

As I mentioned previously, use a non-nuke EMP bomb close to their pirate base and knock out all their electronics and boat engines. Then the Marines can waltz in unmolested singing their song, “From The Halls of Montezuma” ,while they kick ass and throw away the names.

The Other Whitey

The Royal Navy may be a far cry from what it used to be, but it’s still perfectly capable of stomping the ever-loving dogshit out of the Iranian Small Raft & Yacht Club.

fareed

They’re also the only ones who’ve sunk a warship with one of their nuke boats.

Former President Jimmy Carter certainly did know where the Straits of Hormuz are. He was a USN Submarine Officer … give him all due credit for that.

USMC Steve

So Jimmy Peanut was a junior, a very junior sub officer. In like 1946. That does not translate to him knowing where the straits of Hormuz are. Or that he knew or knows much of anything else. He rates no credit for that.

In times like these, I have to wonder:

“What would Maggie Thatcher do?”

Ret_25X

There would already be a body counter on BBC and CNN…

For all her faults, Iron Maggie knew the value of a good asskicking.

The Brits got cucked plain and simple. The only correct response would have been “release our citizens within 24 or this will be considered an act of war” and by now the SAS should be running around causing all sorts of mayhem in Iran while there are many large craters where iran’s Military was. Ain’t shit gonna happen though because the Brits are absolutely terrified of what could happen with the insane amount of Muslims in their capital. This society is paralyzed by political correctness and Iran drew their bitch card.

rgr769

Yes, when the Brits threaten military action in response, the Mullahs will likely respond: “Please, bitch, you aint got the nads to strike us.”

11B-Mailclerk

On the other hand, the Argentines thought so.

One might hope the Brits again rise to the occasion.

But the Argies didn’t play their A game either. Given that the Falklands were right there, and thousands of miles from England, If the Argies had wanted it bad enough, they could have simply flooded it with troops until they covered the place. Even with a crap army like theirs, they would have prevailed. They didn’t want it bad enough.

11B-Mailclerk

One thing to have an army, quite another to have the logistical pipe to move them over open ocean, and a Navy to safeguard that movement.

The Brit Navy demonstrated rather soundly that they could sink Argentine ships at will, even using antique non-guided weapons. That they were hesitant was unknown to their opponents. That hesitancy might likely have faded if faced with a loss of their own forces.

As long as Britain didn’t quit, the Argentines were going to lose, and lose as badly as hard as they tried. Their economy could not support any sort of protracted campaign. Britain could.

Might be a good opportunity to stir em up, knock em down and ship em out

Veritas Omnia Vincit

There is a simple way to stop this bullshit. sink every fucking vessel government and private that is found on the coast of Iran.

Don’t even leave a fucking dinghy floating…then those motherfuckers can try swimming to cause trouble. Destroy every aircraft they own as well. Leave them nothing that is capable of leaving their airspace or the navigable waterways….

Fuck ’em…

AMEN!!!

Would that it were. But I suspect the Brits don’t have the guts to do it. They are likely terrified at what the Iranians will sponsor in the way of terrorist retaliation.
