Miguel Perez, veteran deported

| March 27, 2018

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reports that they handed US Army veteran Miguel Perez to Mexican authorities according to Tuscon News Now. They report that Perez completed two tours in Afghanistan while he served in the Army. Then he delivered two pounds of cocaine to a federal agent which caused ICE to reject his application for citizenship and prompted them to deport his ass because he did not show “good moral character”. So Senator Tammy Duckworth has taken up his cause;

Perez, his family and supporters, who include Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, had argued that his wartime service to the country had earned him the right to stay in the U.S. and to receive mental health treatment for the PTSD and substance abuse. She sent a letter to Homeland Security asking the Trump administration to review his case.

“This case is a tragic example of what can happen when national immigration policies are based more in hate than on logic and ICE doesn’t feel accountable to anyone,” Duckworth said in a statement following reports of Perez’s deportation. “At the very least, Miguel should have been able to exhaust all of his legal options before being rushed out of the country under a shroud of secrecy.”

I don’t think that Duckworth would have supported Perez if he’d been deported a few years ago. Dude was trafficking in cocaine, thousands of veterans who suffer from PTSD didn’t try to sell drugs to federal agents.

According to the Houston Chronicle, it was two kilos of coke, not two pounds, 4.4 pounds. He was sentenced to 15 years and he’d served about half of that sentence when he was sent back to Mexico.

I find it difficult to be supportive of a drug dealer, even a veteran who is a drug dealer, especially one who blames his drug deals on PTSD.

Profiting from drug trafficking was more important to him than citizenship. No sympathy here. AMF, Perez.

ArmyATC

Not to mention there are some reports he was not a model Soldier and was booted from the Army with a GD. But the left just has to push his veteran status and how racist the US is for heaving him out of the country.

desert

Yeh and no ducksbutt ptsd treatment is going to fix plain old criminal GREED!

2banana

Democrats with identity politics willing to win at any cost.

Lots of love in being a major drug trafficker…

Maybe he was a great soldier. For sure, he was a lousy drug dealer: he got caught. As I’ve said before and I will say again, being good at one thing doesn’t necessarily mean one is good at anything else.

That Guy

‘Veteran reported’
After drug dealing. Whoops, shitty choices get you thrown out.

OldManchu

Yep! My best friend was 7 months home from Desert Storm with a CIB when he was convicted and incarcerated at Ft. Knox for some bad choices involving drugs. Lost everything. Dishonorable discharge, lost GI Bill and College Fund. Lost the re-enlistment rights (wanted to be a lifer) and lost his pride.

Made one hell of a success of his life after that and because of that. Took ownership of it and let it drive him to succeed. He never blamed anyone or asked for relief from his consequences though.

2/17 Air Cav

Tammy Duckworth is stupid. I have no doubt her advisors told her to dummy up on coming to the defense of a convicted mid-level drug dealer.

SFC D

He can go serve as president of the Guadalajara VFW chapter. So he was a great Soldier, that’s history. What he is now is a convicted drug dealer. Hasta la vista, bitch.

ArmyATC

there are some reports that he was less than a model Soldier and was booted from the Army with a GD.

Look as a Veteran who deals with PTSD. I just want to say first off thanks Jonn , for pointing out that the vast majority of vets who deal with this. Don’t turn to crime. While dealing with it has some major challenges , in no way should it be construed as a reason for bad or illegal behavior. Just because one deals with PTS. Does not mean that accountability for our actions go out the window. And it’s funny that all these vets who use it as an excuse A. Perpetuate the stigma that we are all just crazed victims who can’t control our actions. And B. Those “victims ” always seem to have never done the hard work of intense therapy. Where they might learn coping skills and find ways to live as normal a life as possible. I’m sorry this guy is going through some tough mental issues I get it. But he must be held accountable for his misdeeds. End of rant

jim h

ISTR reading somewhere that he hadn’t satisfactorily completed one of those tours on account of drug related issues either. can’t speak to the veracity of that article, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me.

jim h

speaking as a combat veteran, a deputy sergeant, and an ICE officer, let me deliver a quote from Tombstone to sum it up:

“well…bye.”

Friend

“well…bye” 😄 so very appropriate for him

Interesting that Sen. Duckworth is championing the case of a criminal.

Living in Illinois, I recall explicitly that while she was the head of the Illinois Department of Veteran’s Affairs, she was going to school instead of doing her job.

This resulted in an investigation into fraud: Getting paid and using the taxpayers money while attending school.

But again this is Illinois, and nothing came of the investigation.

The useful idiots in Illinois voted to send someone under criminal investigation to the US Senate.

Why am I not surprised.

Mason

And then this senator of questionable character throws in with a convicted felon. At least she’s with the right party.

Casey

This is Illinois we’re talking about. She probably thinks he’s a convicted governor or something.

BlueCord Dad

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes….

The Other Whitey

Sounds like a real asshole. No wonder Duckworth likes him.

HA!

CPT11A

Being a war veteran doesn’t grant you immunity from bad decisions later in life. He did an honorable thing, and then he did a dishonorable thing. There’s a price for that dishonorable thing, and it’s time to pay. Adios.

CPT11A

Also, it probably is controversial, although with the rampant drug epidemic in this country today, it shouldn’t be, but drugs kill people. This isn’t some harmless game.

If it were my call, drug dealers and traffickers would hang. Veteran or not.

David

+100 on that last senntence. We lost the war on drugs because we never fought it.

Casey

Yes, because Constitutional rights are so passé…

The Stranger

Uh, I hate to break it to you, but the Constitution doesn’t specify which crimes are eligible for the death penalty. Caryl Chessman was executed in the 60’s for a rape he committed in the late 40s, early 50s time frame. Hell, they used to hang horse thieves. Cultural mores have changed, not the Constitution. As long as due process is followed, the 5th Amendment is silent and the “double jeopardy” clause of the 5th amendment says “life or limb”, which opens the door to some pretty gruesome punishments. You can say that a death penalty for drug offenses is not in line with prevailing opinion, but the Constitution has nothing to do with it.

Instinct

Considering how many people died last year from heroin use, around 50,000, I would say the death penalty is very appropriate.

Deal in death, get it in return.

Then again, I am also for putting rapists and child molesters as well as murderers against the wall too.

CPT11A

I like the way you think.

CPT11A

Casey, I’ve had a difficult time deciphering the exact meaning of your quip, but your other posts seem to suggest a libertarian bent.

In which case, The Stranger nails it. Assuming I wasn’t talking about summary executions or torture (I wasn’t), there is nothing in the Constitution which prohibits my goal for traffickers. Give them a trial with counsel and an impartial judge or jury and, upon conviction, string them up.

The Stranger

Actually, I made a small mistake, I believe that the Constitution provides for the death penalty for treason. Apologies.

ChipNASA

I’ll just leave this here.

Club Manager, USA ret.

Someone should be sure to remind Perez of the safety policy. That is don’t let the door in the wall hit you in the ass as you head South courtesy of uncle.

Yef

Zero tolerance for criminals.
Not surprised the democrat party supports this behavior.

Green Thumb

General Discharge = Shitbag.

I commend him for his service until he was booted from the Army.

We all signed a contract and we all still serve in various ways, not just ourselves. And I love the excuse how the cartel will “enroll” him for his combat experience. And if he does not comply, then they will kill him.

The problem with politicians is that they are falling all over themselves to help losers and not those that are actually jacked up or wounded. Also, keep in mind Duckworth was helping herself as well when in charge.

Fuck this guy.

OldSoldier54

Where are you getting General Discharge?

I can’t find that in either linked article.

SSG Kane

Don’t remember which article I read but said he got caught smoking pot while in garrison.

Green Thumb

The one on MSN a few days back had GD from drug use.

MrBill

Presumably he could have pursued his citizenship while he was still in the service and before he got in trouble. Had he done so, he would have been able to stay in the US after serving his time. That, and the fact that he served, makes me just a little bit sympathetic toward him and his family. But, without a doubt, he made his own bed…

Wireman 611

Love this, proof positive that one aw s#$t wipes out ALL your ataboys.

Jimmy cracked corn, and I don’t give a shit.

Thunderstixx

So the Ft Wainwright Soldier of the Year in 1975 that was busted for a lb of pot when he sold it to a narc Sgt in my platoon and squad would get Duckworth to go to bat for him ???
Shitstain…

NECCSEBEECPO

He had a chance to fast track to be a U.S. Citizen while he was serving. We had nine that did it in one of my units when we returned from Iraq 2003-2005.
He decided for what ever reason, to not do so, and also chose to brake the law, so you pay that price. PTSD or No PTSD, he was dealing drugs period.

Green Thumb

Word.

Graybeard

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, supports drug dealers.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, supports law breakers.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, does not care if someone endangers our children.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, needs to spend some time in Monterrey, Mexico – without a passport or escort.

Ex-PH2

Duckworth is pregnant – AGAIN.

Can’t be hormones that make her so addlepated. She simply IS that way.

Graybeard

And Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, being pregnant again is proof that some guys will dip their stick into any hole that offers itself.

EEEeeeewwwww!

rgr769

Tammy is and has become an effing progtard scrunt. She is a disgrace to the uniform she once wore. Just because one can operate the controls of a helicopter does not qualify one to make good policy decisions for one’s country, anymore that having served in a combat zone makes one a suitable citizen for this nation, when that person is a convicted illegal alien felon.

Sgt Fon

anyone got a 214 on this guy? i’m betting he got bad paper.

Slick Goodlin

As NCO’s in the Army we had a saying:

“A soldier doesn’t get promoted.
A soldier gets himself promoted.”

Consequently:

“A person doesn’t get deported.
A person gets themself deported.”

USAF RET

Saw dozens who enlisted, did well and obtained legit US Citizenship. This guy had a good record until he chose to go in the other direction. Screw him

OldManchu

I entered the Army in 1989 with a Laotian immigrant. He learned English in a refugee camp. He is still serving today, almost 29 years later, and is a proud American citizen. From Panama, to Iraq, and Afghanistan. Too bad this shitbag didn’t appreciate the same opportunity he had.

Peter the Bubblehead

No one seems to be noticing this drug dealer was sentenced and his deportation ordered to be carried out under the Obama administration, but because of all the legal maneuvering he managed to stay in the US past Trump’s inauguration, so it’s all Trump’s fault because he;s a racist and hates Mexicans.

SFC D

Will you please stop interjecting facts into a perfectly good Trump hatefest?

OldManchu

Obama hates mexicans.

OldSoldier54

Bad decisions have bad consequences.

Crusty CW3

I dig deeper into this dudes story when it first broke.

He was booted early from the Army before his first enlistment was finished because he popped hot for cocaine on a drug test.

He probably was planning on doing his citizenship paperwork before he hit his ETS date, then screwed up how chances when he popped hot on the drug test.

Atkron

Why can’t we stipulate Veteran with Honorable Service?

Green Thumb

Because dude is a shitbag and he does not have an Honorable Discharge.

Hondo

Bingo. And I’ll be even more specific, and advocate being a touch more restrictive: along with “fact track” citizenship for immigrant personnel serving in the military, Federal law should also require an Honorable Discharge to receive any VA bennies other than post-service medical care for service-connected conditions. Those with a DD, BCD, or General (of either type) IMO by law should be barred from receiving any VA bennies beyond service-connected medical care. (DD is already by statute barred from all VA bennies as I recall; that should be the case IMO with BCD and General/OTH as well.)

A Proud Infidel®™

Do the crime, do the time, ADIOS EL ESTUPIDO GRANDE and piss on Tammy Duckworth!

13B/92S/42R

For a while they were giving guys their citizenships at Reception BN ( with guidelines if you blow it you will lose your citizenship ) when they went to basic combat training then they stopped.

so this guy actually got the boot in 2004 from the Army for being a pot head. ( not the first not the last ) so that made him ineligible to be get his citizenship because if they would have gave it to him day one in 2001 when he got the boot they would have took it away

The Army now you have to do the full 8 year term that means they could do 5 years of active duty and for the three years irr/ reserves you got to be good citizens and then your citizenship status becomes permanent

what I find interesting is that this Joker got booted in 04 ( he did complete first contract , NOT A VETERAN )

He didn’t get busted for dealing dope until 2010

I have compassion for him as I help veterans everyday with PTSD because he is served in Afghanistan during a hell of a time he could have chosen a different route for his recovery from PTSD pretty sure the 2010 conviction wasn’t his first time selling dope

Now he’s going to get drafted from the cartels probably not yes down there in Mexico some parts are like the Wild Wild West firefights , dirty cops the Mexican army fighting the cartels so I don’t think they’re going to need this guy they have plenty of Drug War veterans down there to do their dirty work .

Green Thumb

Unless he fucked them on his bad drug deal.

If that is the case, prison here might be a little more, shall we say, comfortable, than what could happen after his deportation.

Sapper3307

Some media(sarc) is working their idea that he was special forces and not 82nd. Its almost the same thing as I remember it.

RM3(SS)

He had the chance to apply for expedited citizenship while serving. Obviously he had other priorities. Enjoy taco Tuesday in Tijuana idioto.

The reason that the Duck is pissed off about the deportation is that she now lost a vote unless she can get the mexicans to let him send in a mail in ballot.

rgr769

I like that, “The Duck.” I guess she would like have the federal penal system release the 30+% of their inmate population who are illegal aliens, have ICE let them stay here, and then promptly register them a D-rats. But, but its for the “children,” not for their illegal votes. Why is it the D-rats always get the votes of the dead and the illegals? Could it be because the live ones want to join the FSA?

jonp

Thank You for your service now get the fuck out of our country, asshole.

Service does not equal a lifetime get out of jail free card

OWB

Apparently he didn’t learn much while he didn’t earn anything but stayed here anyway just because so many sacrificed so much to keep him here. No, it makes no sense at all.

HMC Ret

Adios, MoFo. Go south of the border to peddle your wares. I understand the competition is much tougher down south, though. Fuck you.

FatCircles0311

The only time veterans matter is when they are advocating for the removal of gun rights and when they can be used to advocate for fake rights.

All the other time veterans are the #1 enemy to America according to liberals.

I almost spit out my drink onto my computer. I have an ex-brother-in-law with that name. I had to wonder for a moment, but that clown didn’t make it to Iraq.

RetiredDevilDoc8404

Paul Reikoff and his minions at IAVA have taken time out from their crusade to have the “offensive” quote in the VA buildings changed to comment on this ass clown’s deportation. It’s amazing that they fail to mention what he did to get deported and that he never bothered to file for his citizenship; they do harp on the PTSD angle though like it’s an excuse for everything he did. It’s not, I deal with PTSD every damned day and you know what? Going out and dealing drugs never crossed my mind even once, am I going about it wrong or have I got a different strain? And Ducky? She was cool when she dropped the hammer on Braulio Castillo for gaming the VA, but WTF is she doing supporting a scumbag drug dealer who couldn’t even finish his first contract without failing a piss test? Time to send her ass to the unemployment line, too.
