ECSO: No, a man did not fire a handgun on Pensacola Beach this weekend
Colin Warren-Hicks
A rumor circulating on social media that a man fired a gun Saturday on Pensacola Beach is not true, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The man did, however, show his weapon in what ECSO spokesman Maj. Andrew Hobbs said was self-defense.
“It was a ‘stand your ground’ type of situation,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs told the News Journal on Monday morning that deputies launched an investigation Saturday afternoon after a man was seen displaying a gun.
When ECSO deputies arrived at the beach, they discovered a man with a permit to carry concealed weapons had drawn his handgun in an act of self-defense, Hobbs said.
Witnesses told deputies that as the man was attempting to leave the beach, a large group of people surrounded him and threatened to beat him up.
The man attempted to get in his car to leave, but the group prevented him from doing so.
“It appears that when he was walking to his vehicle, a group of people surrounded him, and there was an interaction,” Hobbs said. “They would not let him get in his car. They wouldn’t let him leave.”
“He has a concealed weapons permit. He was in fear for his life,” Hobbs said. “He pulled the weapon out and told them to back away from his vehicle and to let him get out.”

For the record Florida is shall-issue, and permitless carry is legal for anyone 21 years old or older and not otherwise prohibited by law. I have one for travel purposes.

Bringing a mob to a gun fight.
Fortunately, things worked out well for all concerned. It could have just as easily and just as quickly gone pear shaped. Never a good thing.
No boolits fired, no bodies perforated, no arrests. I’m guessing that the mob remembered more pressing biznizz elsewhere when the dood flashed his steel credentials.
I’m adding this to the three ring 3″ loose leaf binder of T2NB2AGF.
(I wonder about the ethnicity/skin melanin content/ages of da yutes that attempted to molest the beach goer)
IMHO, the Florida victim had the best possible outcome: the mob backed off, he didn’t have to buy any replacement ammo, the LEOs didn’t have to file the paperwork surrounding a shooting nor hassle him while an investigation was ongoing.
Hopefully the perps will learn to calm down a bit – but my optimism isn’t very great.
5.7 just doesn’t appeal to me, whatever the delivery package may look like. YMMV

I have no idea, Joe.
Come on, that joke was too easy!
“Hey, Joe, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand…”

Gotta wonder what that back story is on the Escambia beach story that so many people didn’t want for one person to leave.
Guess they weren’t real committed to it 🙂
The command formerly known as SAC has pulled the Sig 320/M18 from use:

I own an M17, with a factory installed Sig Sauer Romeo Red Dot.
Love it.
Too big for me to carry though.
BUT, it sure is nice to look at !!!
