Abu Dhabi’s skyline soars through the fog above the mangroves below. Your Shot photographer Khalid Al Hammadi says that he took this picture while in college, and that the peaceful view was “a silent haven to me from the pressure of tests and daily life routine.”

First.

ChipNASA

First! F5F5F5F5F5F5? Four in a row? Nah. Not happening. I’m gonna give someone else a turn.

RGR 4-78

Thanks for the hand up.

ChipNASA

NOW The challenge will be to nail the next tow in a row.
/says the attention whore.
//not really an attention whore, much, not nearly as some *other* folks round here. (LOL)

ChipNASA

*two*…Jesus, previewing is your friend.

RGR 4-78

CRS?

RGR 4-78

I’ll be damned.

ChipNASA

Yeah I saw it and waited 30 seconds. I thought 4 in a row would be obnoxious.
*grin*

ChipNASA

Congrats.
I turn over the crown and sceptre of WoT First to RGR 4-78

RGR 4-78

You are the Miami Dolphins of the WOT.
3 in a row will be hard to match much less beat.

2/17 Air Cav

Turned it over? I heard him yell, “Give me that!” as he ripped it from your grasp. Welcome back to loserhood.

ChipNASA

( First!)
I’m not saying anything but there’s no exclamation point in the first First post.
2/17 Cav is the referee and I’m abstaining from being eligible for “First!” 4 weeks in a row.
/got-damn trouble maker.

2/17 Air Cav

1st…first…First…FIRST… FiRsT w/ or w/o punctuation are all good. This matter has been previously ruled upon. “The one before second” or “I win” or some such tomfoolery is w/o value.

ChipNASA

GOt it!@

2/17 Air Cav

I can see that you are having difficulty accepting the reality of your defeat and the loss of the title. It’s a sort of withdrawal, I imagine. You think that somehow, some way, there must be a mistake, a rule that will reverse your lot. There isn’t. The sooner you accept your beating, the better. Why gnash your teeth and wring your hands all weekend wondering what might have been? Still, you were so very close, weren’t you? Seconds. Mere seconds.

2/17 Air Cav

Your part begins at the 14 second mark, Chip…

ChipNASA

Got-Damn, I remember watching that when I was a “ute”.
I do miss the simpler days.

I have to run a bunch of errands now, so I don’t care. But I will get the ingredients for barbecue beans with smoked sausage, tomato cole slaw and also, some nice fat strawberries at $1.49/lb with some whipped cream.

Wilted Willy

Sounds great Ex, what time is dinner? I could bring the fresh strawberries from sunny Florida!!

RGR 4-78

You type the best food pron on the Wot.

Mick

Any Tabasco Sauce to add to those barbecue beans with smoked sausage?

Wilted Willy

Can’t live without that stuff! I put it on everything!!

Ex-PH2

I have not yet put tabasco into anything, but I may get some canned corned beef hash and spice it that way. That CBH stuff has become so bland, it’s almost a waste of time fixing it unless you’re hungry and in a hurry.

Beautiful weather outside, hate to be inside.

On the schedule for this weekend: volunteer as a re-enactor at the 30th annual Sam Houston Folk Festival. It will be great weather for it. Y’all come!

I always thought that only original posts counted and responses to the original posts were just that responses. If that is the case you would be 14th.

It would be up to 2/17 Air Cav for the official ruling.

2/17 Air Cav

This issue has never arisen before, and the answer is, it depends. Generally, among new comments, the time of a post controls and it would also when there is a reply and a new comment posted. If a reply is time-stamped 1:15 p.m and a new comment 1:16 p.m. or later, the reply prevails in terms of order of appearance. However, when both a reply and a new comment have the same time (e.g., 1:15 p.m.) the question is which appeared first. Unlike new posts, where one appears before another when their time stamps are the same, and the first appearing trumps the other or others, a reply and a new comment defy the first-appearing determination because a later-appearing reply can precede, in appearance, an earlier-appearing new comment. The only equitable way to resolve this is to rule a tie any reply and new comment that share the posting time. The exception to this rule is the situation in which a comment and a reply to that comment post in the same minute. In this situation, there is no tie, and the new comment would trump a reply to it.

A Proud Infidel®™

What’s that mean in English?

2/17 Air Cav

Damned if I know. There are two possible explanations. The first is that I take this stuff too seriously. The second is that I figured that by the second line, readers’ eyes would gloss over and give up.

RGR 4-78

You done Maxine Watered me.
(smile)

OWB

Hmmm. Simplified, it appears that A/C is saying that if the comments count at the top of the page says that there are 6 comments, the next comment, whether in the form of a reply or a stand alone comment, would be number 7.

Or maybe A/C is saying that it depends upon what the word number means during a full moon as it appears in the southern hemisphere. On alternate Wednesdays.

Think I read that Berdscum’s appeal is going to be 930 Tuesday.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m sure it will be DENIED like his application to the Oregon Bar was.

Tallywhagger

Read back is correct. I expect that BustedButt will discharge counsel, at the last moment, in a lame attempt to get another extension. Hope his representative is working from retainer, he’s got a loose cannon for a client and a reputation to defend.

The appellate court will only look at the process from the court of original finding. My understanding is that the judge who heard the case is the same judge who issued the earlier order which was violated.

Not having read the appeal, I am guessing that the respondent might be Don & company.

I expect the case to be remanded back to her honor who has probably heard just about enough from a frazzled ol’freak who traveled over a thousand miles to inflict himself against a victim with a protective order.

Hard to imagine that the malcontent traveled to Chesapeake just to go Christmas shopping.

To my estimation, somebody in this story could benefit from a court appointed conservator. And it ain’t Don Shipley!

Hack Stone

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, on Daniel Bernath.

Hey, out of curiosity, could someone who knows about artillery shells take a look at this picture from Sydney of a shell found in a charity shop. See if it has a fuse in it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4498006/Sydney-op-shop-finds-unexploded-bomb-donation-bin.html. ‘Cause it looks like it might to me. Yikes.

11b-mailclerk

I would tend to agree.

Could it be a training/inert one?

Just An Old Dog

Its a pretty old shell. I see it has a time setting at the base of the fuse. As a rule many of these were “Base Ejecting” rounds that either had an illumination flare with a chute or smoke. The base of the shell came off, but the rest of it remained intact. After firing it would still be intact.

2/17 Air Cav

Here you go, CCO. It’s a British 75 mm artillery shell (shrapnel.)

Seven of the past ten days in ACUs–almost feels as though I’m back on AD. I’m just happy to be in the top 100 today.

A Proud Infidel®™

I disliked the Army ACU “Pajamas” from when I first got some issued to me for A-stan, the Velcro on the pockets wore out in no time and the trouser crotches ripped even sooner than that.

Eden

Haven’t had issues with the crotches, thankfully, but I hate the Velcro! I’ll be glad when we can start wearing OCPs (they’re saying they’ll authorize for us when it’s mandatory for Big Army).

Just when you think California can’t get any more goofy.

My internet is via a sat link, and this week the provider shipped a new modem/router to upgrade the service. Buried in the install docs, which usually get mostly ignored, was the following bold face warning:

This product, including electrical wiring, contains chemicals, including lead, known to the State Of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after use.

Lucky me. I was just about to drag out the ol’ Zippo and fire that bad boy up. Because who doesn’t enjoy a tasty modem/router now and then?

Newsflash to all those RV fans out there:

Even if you pay someone to winterize your camper, it’s definitely in your best interest to walk it down yourself, otherwise you’re going to be wondering how the fuck to get to the bypass and isolation valves on the water heater.

Had I known, I would have saved an hour today.

Greg Ellifritz from Active Response Training in Ohio has written a blog post espousing how great John Giduck’s book and training are. That said, he only mentions in passing the issue with John Giduck’s lies:

“Yes, I know Mr. Giduck has previously been accused of inflating his resume to be “better qualified” to teach large police training classes. I don’t condone his behavior on that issue, but to ignore his scholarship in the field of terrorism and mass shootings is a little like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.”

The author didn’t allow comments on his blog post. A friend sent Part 1 of a response that can be found here

Twist

Had a bad scare yesterday. My Grandson didn’t come home from school and was missing. We sent up the bat signal and the entire family was searching the area and the State Troopers were as well. We found him late last night. It turns out that he walked off school grounds with a friend and went to his house for a little bit and then left. His Step-Dad is up North at work and couldn’t fly back home and was worried as hell and felt helpless. We have my Grandson on Sunday and I am going to sit him down and talk to him about how panicked we were (especially his Mother)and how if something had happened it would have destroyed her and us. I don’t know how many of you were on TAH in 2013 and remember, but his sister was 3 when she had a fatal accident. I am so thankful for my family for dropping everything and start looking, the State Troopers for all that they did, for the 3 different Wards of the LDS Church that had members out looking as well as the Mormon Missionaries out looking.

RGR 4-78

I am relieved that he was found safe.

Ex-PH2

Kids under the age of ### have no common sense. They know where they are. They do not ‘get’ that YOU don’t know where they are.
Ask me how many times I got hammered for doing what your grandson did, just blithely go off into the wild blue yonder.

Glad to hear it ended well, we had a scare like that with A Proud Infidel Jr.®™ a couple of years ago.

Eden

So thankful he was found safe. I wandered off with a friend one time when I was about 3. My grandmother was babysitting me while my parents were out of town. My friend and I went outside to play the cornfield out back, and we came out the wrong end, into town. Scared the dickens out of my grandmother. A couple of my kids have given us scares like that, too.
