Marine Nominated to Head USNA

LtGen Michael Borgschulte
Marine 3-Star to Lead Naval Academy, Davids Heading to OPNAV Staff

A Marine Corps officer is in line to lead the U.S. Naval Academy for the first time in its 180-year history, USNI News has learned.
Lt. Gen. Michael Borgschulte, who is currently the Marine Corps deputy commandant for manpower and reserve affairs, will be nominated to serve as the Naval Academy’s 66th superintendent, two defense officials familiar with the matter confirmed to USNI News.
Vice Adm. Yvette Davids, who has been the superintendent since January 2024, will get renominated for a third star and to serve on the chief of naval operations staff. If confirmed by the Senate, she will serve as the deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans, strategy and warfighting development, also known as the N3-N5-N7. Vice Adm. Daniel Dwyer, the current N357, will retire next month, USNI News understands.
Historically, the superintendent role has been filled by a U.S. Navy admiral, meaning Borgschulte, if confirmed, would be the first Marine general to serve as the superintendent.

“A decorated combat leader and proud graduate of the Naval Academy Class of 1991, Lt. Gen. Borgschulte brings a wealth of operational experience and strategic insight,” Phelan said in a statement. “If confirmed, he will be the first Marine to hold this prestigious post, a milestone that reflects the strength of our naval integration and the shared ethos of the Navy-Marine Corps team.”
The Marines take charge- JD Vance approves. Thanks to Mick for the link.

Jarhead leading the Naval Acadamy? Not sure I get it. Yes, we are a Department of the Navy and the academy also graduates Marine officers, but still, why? You mean to tell me there are no high-ranking Naval officers able enough to lead the academy? I bet all you squids out there are shitting yourselves. Can’t say I blame you.
I believe you might find the appointment of a Marine officer in line with the current administration’s efforts to restore a warrior based ethos to our officer corps. I think many of you can agree that it may have been lacking as of late. This officer will not be instructing surface warfare officers on how to fight ships. Lol. The warrior ethos must be taught to those who seek to lead warriors of any service or branch. There is no place for feelings in combat.
Grunt, Not saying I don’t think it will work and that the Lt. Gen. won’t tighten up and toughen up the midshipmen if that is why he was brought on board, just saying I figured this was something they could handle themselves. Kinda like bringing in an Admiral to shape up Parris Island if the Corps felt so inclined to shake things up. To me its as if the Navy brass are throwing up their collective hands saying, “Well Bill Halsey, we are FUBAR down here and need the Marines to fix us.”
RAH!! UNH UNH UNH!!!! GUURRRRRR!!! *grunt grunt grunt* CRAYONZZ~!!!!
(oblig)
Soooo, a crayon eater is smart enough to lead the academy? Well, well, well, yeah this will really fire up the squids. Heh, heh, heh.
The Marine crayon supply is now sacrosanct.

On today’s episode of When Your Branch is in Dire Need of Discipline…
Good luck, USNA.You’re gonna need it.
Would he be able to ride up here, or would they not trust him to seal the hatch correctly.

Shoulda gone to an Army Signal School graduate.
Different kind of flag officer…..
He’ll probably change the dessert menu to include a wide variety of crayon flavors, but other than that he’s an Academy guy which is good.
Dessert choices from the 64 count box?
Primary colors but only one flavor, HT3. This has confused generations of Marines.
*grin*
It’s kinda like every Froot Loop is the same flavor, regardless of color.
Might make ’em tougher. Just sayin’.

Good, now send Sergeant Major Thomas Payne to West Point so he can show the O’s what soldiering is all about.
Not to mention Major Payne, too:
Lol, not Major Payne. This guy:

I know, he kicks azz and comes so equipped.
Dayummm! MoH and all those “V” devices! …. And his wife is pretty as well.
Surely no one among us thinks that a Former Member of The Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children’s E-4 Mafia (IF such an organization actually exits) had any input or recommendation for this appointment. Naw….
If’n he was a member of this theoretical institution, he’s Chairman of the Board now.
No issue from me with having a rotary wing aviator run Sodom on the Severn. There is another Marine Rotary Wing aviator running The Citadel.
I don’t know
A big negative of being an Academy Supe is the job is normally considered a sunset assignment. Unless there is a waiver by the SecDef, the officer is expected to retire after his/her term. So, no chance of a 4th star. Things may be changing as the former West Point Supe Darryl Williams was advanced to 4 stars & VADM Davids was laterally reassigned.
