The WaPo Misrepresents Propaganda as News – Again

| June 20, 2015

Yesterday, the Washington Post published        some anti-gun propaganda     an article.  Its title tells you all you really need to know about it:

The “legal loophole” that allowed Dylann Roof to get a gun

I’ve put “legal loophole” there in quotes for a couple of reasons.  The first reason is – it’s absolute bullsh!t, and it’s misleading as hell. IMO, that’s by intent.

The second reason is that it the whole article appears to be factually incorrect.  No “legal loophole” – imaginary or otherwise – appears to have been involved at all.

Here are the facts of the case.

The apparently-racist bastard named Dylann Roof who murdered 9 innocents in Charleston was arrested for felony drug possession 28 February of this year.  According to the WaPo        propaganda       article, he obtained the weapon used in his crime as a birthday present this April.  (This now appears to have been proven false – I’ll cover that below).

The WaPo writer seizes on this, claiming that this is the result of the “gun show loophole”.   He does so after acknowledging that it was already illegal under current Federal law for him to have been given a weapon as a gift while under indictment for a felony crime – see 18 USC 922(d)(1).

So, even if the original reports of Roof receiving the firearm he used in his murders as a gift had been true, the reporter’s article would still have been bullsh!t.  Why?  Because there was no freaking “legal loophole” here.  Roof was facing felony charges – and his family had to know he’d been arrested.  They thus had good reason to suspect he could be facing felony charges – and therefore giving him a weapon would have already been illegal under Federal law.  There’s no “loophole” there, folks.

In fact, later news reports indicate that Roof in fact bought the gun himself at a local gun shop.  My guess is that he probably falsified the purchase form (ATF Form 4473) and claimed he was not under “indictment or information” for any felony crime.  (I’m pretty sure that being out on bail after arrest while awaiting further court action virtually guarantees the latter – e.g., that Roof was legally considered “under information” of a felony, even if he hadn’t been formally indicted by a grand jury.)  Falsifying an ATF 4473 is also a Federal felony.  I suppose it’s theoretically possible that the gun shop was “dirty” and ignored a truthful answer – but since that’s kinda easily discovered, I rather doubt it.  Most business owners want to stay in business and stay out of jail.

I’ll spell it out for any logic-challenged “liberal brethren” who might be reading this. Roof was apparently willing to lie on the purchase form in order to purchase a firearm himself.  That is itself a felony.  So, how would requiring him to take a firearm received as a gift down to the same firearms shop to “complete the transfer” for a gift have made any difference?

Answer: it wouldn’t have.  He’d have simply lied on the ATF 4473 then, too.

However . . . having him do that to “complete the transfer” would indeed assist in later compiling a database of who owns firearms, should anyone in the future want to do so.

Bottom line:  that WaPo        propaganda       article yesterday wasn’t about gun safety at all.  It was about misleading people.  It was designed to convince people to support whatever is necessary to facilitate backdoor gun registration in the future – plain and simple.

Here you go again with all your facts and stuff. Never confuse people with facts when they have already made up their minds.

I have no problem giving up my guns, as long as mine are the very last ones given up. I mean, its the rest of you crazy bastards that are the problem.

If only there were another form or two required to purchase a gun, a few more questions, anything that would further restrict the rest of you from having a weapon. That would fix the problem for sure.

I am getting tired of all you gun nutz acting like you have a right to own them. There is noting that says you can own ammo.

People kill people…..with guns. They should have to work harder at it. Lazy right wing white extremists, you should have to do more than twitch a finger to kill someone.

We’ve seen this kind of thing before. It was called Pravda. Don’t remember them pretending to be something other than what they were, unlike “journalists” today.

Ex-PH2

Wait – what did you expect, Hondo? Da troof?

That’s like asking for Christmas in July, fer Pete’s sake.

If you go back and look at the news videos over that last few years, every one of them reporting on any kind of violence is loaded with people weeping on TV, and never addresses the real problem, which is that it is up to those of us who live in our neighborhoods to make the neighborhoods safe.

When that crops up on TV, it is quickly dismissed.

The Other Whitey

Hollywood has created the stereotype of the unscrupulous gun shop that sells illegal shit out of the back room for cash, and low-information liberals take it on faith. One of my favorite ways to make their heads spin is to point out the following:

Guess what two groups make up the majority of gun shop owners and employees (at least in California), who not only sell guns, but actively recruit for the NRA and CRPA?

Retired law enforcement officers, and current law enforcement officers working a side job. In other words, pretty much the last people who would ever pull that ridiculous back room bullshit.

I also enjoy relating the story of a time I was in one of my favorite shops, shooting the shit (so to speak) with the old-timer behind the counter, who was a just-retired Sheriff’s sergeant, working up to purchasing a weapon (SKS if memory serves). All of a sudden, he looks past me, stops smiling, and waves for me to move aside, which I do. I turn around and notice two Hispanic lads in their early 20s just walked in. The sergeant and three other guys behind the counter all have weapons drawn, I’m thinking, “Fuck me, I’m about to be the only dumbass in a gunfight without a Goddamn gun!” and preparing to dive over the counter.

The sergeant tells the two youths at the door to stop right there, turn the fuck around, get the fuck out, and don’t come back ever. There’s a few tense moments, then the newcomers comply. After they’re gone and everybody has re-holstered, I ask what the hell that was all about. He points out the gang colors that both were wearing–not being a city-dweller, I hadn’t known what to look for. He says, “They try that shit sometimes, coming into a shop to see if they can buy or steal something for cheaper than what they get from their dealers. But every shop in this and the neighboring counties knows what to look out for and most of the guys behind the counter are cops anyway.”

OldSoldier54

LOL! That must really spin ’em out!

Flagwaver

Makes you wonder if they did this in league with the White House that wants to prevent these deadly attacks by taking guns away from the people, for their own protection.

UpNorth

Yeah, except I don’t wonder at all. 🙂

We all know that gun laws are obeyed only by law-abiding citizens, not criminals. He obtained a gun illegally, not through a loophole.
The loopholes, in this case, are in the WashPo article.

Valkyrie

Hondo, I adore you and as one of your groupies I feel I must do right by you, Oh glorious one! So I’m going to tell you a secret, now it’s one of those super duper secret squirrely ones. So don’t tell anyone, m’k?
There is no Good God Damn place for honesty truth and/or non-bias news in the news. Shhh! Our secret. *wink*

Giggle snort burp fart.

GunzRunner

Hondo, I wish to highlight that you failed to also mention another loophole that is guaranteed to send the antigun crowd into a anxiety attack. pssst…. did you know that there is a “gun show loophole” too? It’s almost as bad as mentioning “he who should not be named.” The left honestly believes that the majority of purchases at a gun show are completed using said “loophole”, therefore making them the root of all gun violence and anyone who goes to them a neo-Nazi, skinhead, rebel flag-waving lunatic.

Bobo

I can guarantee that by Friday morning, the place that sold Roof the gun was crawling with BATF agents and state police going through every transaction that it had done in the past several years. If there was anything screwy with any of the transactions, we would have known by now.
