MSN: Common lies on résumés
Don sends us a link to MSN which talks about 3 common lies that people put on their résumés. They leave out military service, which I’ll correct for them here.
We’ve seen lots of people who falsely claim on their résumés that they were SEALs or Special Forces. For some reason they add that they’re recipients of medals and training that are also false, and usually have nothing to do with the job for which they are applying. A really good example is Larry Sims who we busted in 2012. When we brought his lies to the attention of his employer, that employer discovered that he also lied about his academic credentials. So Larry moved on and tried the same thing with another employer earlier this year. This time our initial post from 2 years ago sparked interest in his new HR department and they tossed his lying ass before we could have much impact. And then, this weekend, someone sent us this report of Larry’s activities since the second firing;
Yeah, he’s been arrested for unemployment fraud.
One of Don Shipley’s tipsters is a headhunter who sends him reams of résumés he encounters of people falsely claiming to be SEALs. When I went to HR for last job, I had to show them my DD214, but then, I’ve had HR people send me fake DD214s that made them suspicious to try and verify. So there are people who are vigilant for phonies, but most of them are veterans. With the government pushing for veteran hirings and the goodwill that the American people have for veterans these days, it’s only natural that sociopaths will try to cash in on that. But employers need to pay attention to the problem, so they don’t hire a Larry Sims.

Didn’t this clowns lawyer send me threatening emails?
Who among these turds DOESN’T send you threatening emails?
First rule of thumb for liars seems to be predicated around the idea that a threat of legal action might frighten someone….
Larry Sims is a giant vagina.
I know he looks soft, but deep down, he is a semi-hardened criminal.
Turd.
And I am actually surprised dirtbaggy Larry is not associated with Commander Phil Monkress and All-Points Logistics. He would make quite the complement to Phildo’s ethically-challenged and felonious senior staff.
What did vaginas ever do to you, GT, that you would insult them by saying that turbucket is a vagina?
^This.
GT, explain yourself. I rather like them, myself. This guy, tho, he’s a Turd.
One thing I learned about resumes floored me. When retired Army son-in-law with a Legion of Merit had MOAA do his resume, they did not include any of his awards which included the LOM, a Bronze, several ARCOMs, etc. His service was mentioned but the resume emphasis was on responsibility and accomplishments. Wish I knew that 35 years ago.
Depends on what job you’re applying for. I’m involved in finding folks for DOD contracts. Many have been to a resume place who tell them to translate their experience into civilian terms. We have fun reading them, e.g., CEO of an organization with capital assets of a zillion dollars. I.e., Squadron Commander. Civilian terminology is fine if you’re applying for a civilian job but when you’re applying for a job that wants military experience, cut the crap and say what you did in military lingo.
Then there was the O6 applying for a $130K job that put bagger at Safeway in his job experience.
HR departments should have a vet on staff to verify these kinds of things. Someone who was in admin and know what the actual paperwork and/or codes means.
Hey, there’s an idea. Why not start a This Ain’t Hell consulting company and we can all get a piece of the pie for doing research to kick phonies out while being paid as consultants. It will give us warm fuzzies and make companies not waste money on lying losers.
As long as I can drink on the job, I am in.
It’s a consulting position. As long as you show progress you get paid.
I don’t want a whole bunch of money for this. What about a quarter or half of the monthly salary of the lying douche had they been hired.
“Consulting” is mostly alcohol and guessing
And the problem is?
Palmer (of the Ballsack) has been doing it for years.
I’m game, although most companies aren’t all that wild about waiting months for an FOIA.
I’m just going to start putting down Community Organizer on mine. Worked for Obama and look where he is at!
