Black Friday gun deals abound
The Washington Times says that the FBI performed 154,873 background checks yesterday as the long drought of the available guns seems to have ended. They report that it’s three times the number of any given day over the last year;
The actual number of guns sold was likely even higher. The FBI only tracks background checks, not sales — and weapons buyers can purchase more than one weapon at a time.
In the first ten months of this year, the FBI performed 17,238,102 background checks, which gun dealers say is actually a slower market, The Huffington Post reported. The panic-buys of 2012, fueled by President Obama’s vow to crack down on gun violence via more Second Amendment regulations, has cooled off slightly, they say. So they’ve ratcheted their marketing for this year’s holiday season, with Black Friday price-cuts abound.
I’ve noticed that the guns I’ve been looking for over the last year are appearing more often on Guns America and Gun Broker. I even picked up ammo for my .338 Lapua Mag for about half of what I paid for it seven months ago. Prices haven’t come down to the level they were in the Spring of 2012, but they’re getting there.
But I got an mail ad for a Black Friday sale from one of the ammo dealers and when I went to their website, most of the ammo I was looking at was out of stock still. So, I guess it’s not over yet.

@9: Can’t go wrong with the Ruger 10/22. It’s popular and there are many accessories for it, so he will never outgrow it.
VWP, you are as smart as my ass smells of roses.
What are your views on Assault Knives? You know, like the scary silver knife that the crazy used to kill all those kids recently? What about assault cars? You know, like those scary gas-burning cars that were used to run over the old people and the bicyclists in all those youtube videos?
Oh, and what about Assault clothing? You know, the clothing that is making all of those bored kids knock out strangers at random (sometimes even killing them)? Or would that be assault music or assault video games?
Because you bring up the term “assault rifle,” you lose all credibility. There is no such thing as an assault rifle. It is simply a rifle that is scary to some people. Well, guess what, did you know that the Army and Police forces train with “assault rifles?” But, guess what, when you do hear about one going nuts, it ain’t about the rifle. It’s about the person.
Moms Demand posted a really nice graphic on Thursday showing where we could get the best Black Friday deals on ARs. I made sure to forward it to all of my friends on FB since I cant personally thank them. Something about being banned from their clubhouse for making sense LOL
MCPO, I bought my 7 year old god daughter one of the Crickett rifles for her birthday this year. She absolutely loves it. Depending on the age of Dylan many of the other rifles may be too long for him. I know that was the case with my minion. We especially liked the fact that we can lock the action out on the Crickett when its stored so even though the rifle is hers, she cant do anything with it unless someone unlocks it for her.
I’ve been rolling with my SW M&P 15-22 and SIG (GSG) 1911-22. Great for working drills and warming up. With the Bushnell Micro T knockoff I had my girlfriend whacking 3″ plates from the offhand at 50 yards on the first day. I great way to introduce folks to weapons.
OTOH, been trying to part w/ my LWRC M6A2 (NIB) with matching BDC ACOG, 600 rounds of Hornady 110gr..etc… w/ no luck for months. The market can be finicky with AR prices dropping and stockage up.
Im working on building another AR. Piece by piece it will happen. I managed to order a Palmetto State lower priced at 50 bucks because its blemished. Gonna work on getting the rest of the parts here and there as I can afford them. Wish I had the money to outright buy a built gun. I guess a build your own makes for a good project though.
Just the other day a guy came into my gun shop and trade 3 bolt action rifels for a .45 acp and that msde my day I belive there gold now.
MCPO – better than the Henry, a Marlin 39A. It’ll last a lifetime or three.
Flagwaver @53:
I totally love your enthusiasm and all, but there really IS such a thing as an “assault rifle”:

… and the M-16 is one example.
The thing you’re thinking of that there’s “no such thing as” is an ASSAULT WEAPON. THAT’S the purely political term, coined in the late 1980’s by Josh Sugarmann to exploit the fact that most Americans don’t know the diff between an M-16 and an AR-15:

Just thought you wanna know, so you can harness that passion with a little “edumacation.” 😉
