Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton

| September 14, 2008

Last night, Saturday Night Live opened their show with Tina Fey (Shocked? Me, to!) playing Sarah Palin next to a Hillary Clinton character. The video is here…YouTube scrubbed all of the pirate copies. They had one good line about the differences in their political opinions with Hillary explaining how she believed that we could we reason with foreign power to get a satisfactory outcome to which the Palin character responds “And I can see Russia from my house”.

But the main thrust of the skit was that Hillary had worked so hard to get where she is and Palin just swooped in and scooped up Hillary’s mantle. That Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. I agree.

Hillary Clinton got to where she is because she attached herself to an ambitious man, perhaps less ambitious than herself, perhaps she had to poke and prod Bill Clinton along, but Hillary Clinton would never had made it as far as she has without Bill Clinton.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, made it pretty much on her own. Her husband had no political connections, her parents didn’t either. Sarah Palin went from the PTA to the governorship largely on her own. She became a conservative force in this country in her first year as governor, again, on her own. I remember discussing her as a possible candidate for VP back in March – I think it was with TSO when he and I were at Winter Soldier during our lunch break.

No one can point to any man that “empowered” her or mentored her to the position she’s reached in America. No, Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. In fact she’s the complete opposite of Hillary Clinton. That’s probably what scares the Left so much – an ambitious woman making it without their help and their afirmative action programs.

Not only did Sarah Palin not use a man to get where she is…she honestly wants it in order to serve the American people. Hillary Clinton wanted it only for herself. I’m not saying that Gov. Palin is not ambitious, but I doubt that she had envisioned herself as a VP.

As for the SNL, I kind of liked it and thought it was funny. Republicans/Conservatives have a sense of humor and though some of the characterizations of Gov. Palin were blatantly unfair, it was well done and well written.

Is it true that she is a creationist? Or that she said she had been to Iraq when she actaully hadn’t? I heard this on the news but wasn’t sure…

Frankly Opinionated

Fred J:
One of her campaign staff, not she, did in fact, claim that she had been to Iraq, when really she had only been to Kuwait. She has debunked that by telling it like it really happened. But, while in Kuwait, she did not do a photo ops at the basketball hoops. Creationist? Yes, aren’t you?
Most who deny creationism, also claim that it is just fine to murder babies in the womb, and feel that rapists and serial killers should not be put to death. Creationist?

Fred,

Wake up. She was at an Iraq/Kuwait checkpoint. Second she’s been to SWA long before Obambi…and more times.

And as commander of the state’s National Guard, anything there is light years ahead of the lightgiver.

I don’t pretend to know if god exists, but I think there is ample evidence that Earth is older than 6000 years and that dinosaurs and people didn’t live at the same time side-by-side. Having a leader who operates under the assumption that the biblical apocalypse is coming within her lifetime could be dangerous.

I think abortion doctors should be put to death along with rapists, murderers, and most liberals.

Hilary Clinton is the Salieri to Sarah Palin Mozart.

Can someone please provide the exact quote where Sarah Palin stated the earth is 6000 years old? Oh, we are living with dinosaur cousins today…we call them crocodiles.

Fred J.

As the ceremony concluded, I bumped into her in a hall away from other people. I congratulated her on her victory, and took her aside to ask about her faith. Among other things, she declared that she was a young earth creationist, accepting both that the world was about 6,000-plus years old, and that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time. I asked how she felt about the second coming and the end times. She responded that she fully believed that the signs of Jesus returning soon “during MY lifetime,” were obvious. “I can see that, maybe you can’t – but it guides me every day.”

Scary. Just scary.

OTOH, REAL nice and neighborly of her to make time to have a private conversation about such matters with an unknown individual who “bumped into her in a hall away from other people”.

REAL nice and neighborly…..

BTW, what “ceremony” and “victory” were refered to here? I think I missed that part. Couldn’t have been much if she had time to step “aside” like this.

It’s weird because the question in his first post doesn’t line up with his obvious lie in his last post.

Fred J.

I don’t know if it is a lie. That is why i ask the question. Hopefully someone will ask her in the debates.

Jonn wrote: Still no source for the quote?

Fred J.

It was from a guy who was a teacher in Alaska. He claims he met her during a campaign victory celebration. His name is Munger I believe.

Kath

Now, Fred, you said “I” bumped into her in the hallway, just chatting away.
Now you say it was someone else. Try to stick to whatever story it is at least. Geez.

Fred J.

It is a cut and paste from that guy’s blog. My first attempt to post it didn’t go through and the second cut off my first sentence. See the quotes? I was hoping someone could confirm or debunk it.

Jonn wrote: How are we going to debunk it when you give us “some guy named Munger” as a source. Please. If you had a link, you’d post it. You don’t want someone to debunk it, you want to kick up dust.

Kath

See the quotes — no, the quotes are only around the supposed sentences.

Sorry, don’t believe any of it. But at least you got to put it out there and I’m sure you’re very pleased with yourself over that. I would say nice try, but really it wasn’t.

But you have a nice day, “Fred”.

here is one site that mentions him. Just google Sarah Palin dinosaurs Munger and you’ll get a bunch of hits.

Kath- no conspiracy here. Just a fragmented quote. Have a nice day as well!

Fred, most Christians believe the Earth is billions of yars old, and also believe that we have no clue of the end times on Earth.

Most Christians also don’t believe Jonah spent 3 days in the belly of a whale or giant grouper or whatever. Get a clue.

Fred J.

Thanks Martino but why the hostility? – “get a clue”. I never said anything about Christians. Thanks for putting the words in my mouth though 🙂 I am aware that most people don’t take the bible literally. I liked Guilliani’s answer on that very question during the debates. If it is true that Palin is in this extremist camp then it is all the more reason we should be worried about having her as our party’s VP.

Jonn wrote: He’s probably hostile because you’re a troll and you’re really bad at it, too.

Fred J.

Just because I question Palin’s background I am a troll? I’m not the only one that thinks she might not have been the best choice.

Jonn wrote: No, I made that judgement based on the entire body of your work here. No conservatives I know want to burn bridges from Maryland or bomb Pakistan into oblivion. That’s the work of a troll. Whoever sent you here didn’t train you properly.

Caroline

Since when is creationism extremist?

LT Nixon

Yo, Fred? Is the body of Jimmy Hoffa under all that astroturf, hi-yo!

Martino

Fred, you haven’t experienced my hostility 🙂

Also, even if she does read the Bible literally, who cares?

As Thomas Jefferson once said:

“The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”

— Thomas Jefferson (Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 17,
1782)
