Know what the problem is? We got too much democracy up in here.

| September 28, 2011

On the heels of the North Carolina governor telling us that democracy is standing in the way of employment yesterday, we get this from Peter Orszag at The New Republic;

So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.

Yeah, that’s it, take the voice away from the people. Maybe there’s gridlock in Congress because the people have decided that the lack of gridlock would result in a flood of harmful legislation…like the first two years of the Obama Administration when nothing stood in his way to spend a trillion bucks on failed policies.

The left hates that the voters are too smart to fall for their scams and their intellectual vacuum of ideas. So clowns like Orszag propose we subordinate the process to the so-called experts and relegate our freedoms to their issue geeks.

The voice of the People is always right, whether it’s wrong or not – the fact that they still have the right to speak and vote makes it more right than wrong. The 2010 election was the People saying that the policies of Obama were wrong, and attempts by liberals to get around the voice of the People is more wrong than the People could ever be.

Liberals are always trying to find a way around the will of the voters, whether it’s through the courts or trying to circumvent the Electoral College. How they get to be called “Liberals” is beyond me.

I think what Orzag is trying to say is that we don’t have enough Czars in the administration.

Doc Bailey

this is how democracies die. Not with a bang but a whimper

Yep, and they usually are killed from the inside out….

This crap scares the hell out of me.

There is a proverb that goes: “If you wish to drown, don’t torture yourself with shallow water.”

They’ve rejected the Constitution in favor of the Collective. As far as I can tell, we’ve just been given written notice. If there ever was a time to try and compromise with the left, it just came to a screeching halt.

Now for the fun: how will Orzag’s commentary be spun as coming from the rabid, raaaaacist TEA Party?

Flagwaver

PintoNag, we got that with all those “jokes” Obama made regarding dictatorship.

Like I am willing to give up more shit? To quote Dr. Smith: “Oh the pain, the pain!”

@Doc, nice use of a Star Wars quote! Many Tar Heels are not happy with her, and want her out as of the next election.

Looking back at our nation’s history, I struggled to remember when we’ve had it worse than with what’s going on today.

We’ve suffered through the Civil War, World War I, the Great Depression and World War II.

At no time during thoses ‘crises’ did we even think about countering “the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic”.

I fear we as a country may not survive this administration.

NHSparky

Sadly enough, she’s not alone on the left. Dilute the meaning of voting until it’s meaningless. We’ve seen this how many times just in the past couple of decades?

Doc Bailey

@9 actually Amadala said “so this is how democracy dies. With thunderous applause.”

You know I listen to Reagan’s speech “a time for choosing” Granted Goldwater was a weaker candidate, but MAN it’s creepy how some of the things he said if anything ring MORE true now. especially when he talked about a Harvard professor saying ” the president is our moral Leader, and should be given the power to do what is right for us” I listened to the whole thing, and aside from specific things (like farming) ALL of it had a parallel today, ALL of it rang true. I’m not even kidding when I say it sent a chill down my spine.

Go ahead Bev, close the ballot box. I’ll be opening the bullet box in its place.

I think the point he was trying to make was that we need a more republican type of government that our founders envisioned and less a mob-rule democracy that it has become.

RobD

There are so many new regulations and so much apathy in the government and the sheeple, I just dont see us recovering from this. I’m happy in the knowlege that I will go down swinging for freedom though.

a really sad commentary on America that in 2004 we had LESS than 50% turn out. a few months later Iraqis did something like 90%

I believe in less government that’s what makes me a conservative. During the depression years when FDR enacted his New Deal, America was still struggling to get out of the depression while Europe already came out of it. FDR even tried to change the Supreme Court to get his way. One of the first examples I can think of when politicans try to change our constitution. The war only got us out of the depression not socialist policies from the New Deal. When Hitler came to power his party was called the National Socialist party. They acted like communist but used racist overtones to kick non-Germans out of the system. They stole from the Jews to give to regular Germans. This was a major class war caused by redistrabution of their property to Germans. That’s why the Nazi’s were able to get away with so much crimes until the Allies won the war. When Obama talks about class war the results can only lead to serious problems down the road. We’re in this mess cause of Globalization and too much government.

It is chilling when the lefties show their hand. So much of what they do is based on lies and distortion that when they tell the truth you have to assume that it is because they are feeling supremely secure in their position.

Of COURSE this is how they feel about us and the Constitution! Of COURSE they have made “the rule of law” into a restraining device instead of a safety net for our protection. Of COURSE they have nearly destroyed any societal transmission of values and morals because by doing so they have handed themselves an excuse to institute absolute tyranny to physically control the chaos they have caused.
