I’ve heard that somewhere before….

| August 29, 2008

I didn’t bother watching the Obama acceptance speech last night, I knew he’d give a good performance…he always does. As long as no one is asking him questions, he’s fine, in love with the sound of his own voice, bathed in the adulation of the sheep. But what I’ve read of his speech this morning, it seems like I’d heard it before (Wall Street Journal link)

“These challenges are not all of government’s making,” Sen. Obama declared. “But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.” He sought to frame the race as a referendum on middle-class economic anxieties, saying, “More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit-card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach.”

And sixteen years ago (Wikipedia link);

We meet at a special moment in history, you and I. The Cold War is over. Soviet communism has collapsed and our values — freedom, democracy, individual rights, free enterprise – they have triumphed all around the world. And yet, just as we have won the Cold War abroad, we are losing the battles for economic opportunity and social justice here at home.

Now that we have changed the world, it’s time to change America.

I have news for the forces of greed and the defenders of the status quo: Your time has come and gone. Its time for a change in America.

Obama;

For over two decades, {McCain has] subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else.

Clinton;

Now, I don’t have all the answers, but I do know the old ways don’t work. Trickledown economics has sure failed. And big bureaucracies, both private and public, they’ve failed too.

Obama;

I will cut taxes cut taxes for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class.

Clinton;

So if you are sick and tired of a government that doesn’t work to create jobs, if you’re sick and tired of a tax system that’s stacked against you,… then join us….

Still waiting for that tax system reform, Bill. Still waiting for Democrats to initiate a Middle class tax cut, too. I remember how adamant they were to prevent George Bush’s tax cuts (which, by the way cut everyone’s taxes even removed some poor people from the tax rolls)…do you really think they’re going to cut our taxes? They don’t even want to continue GWB’s tax cuts.

The politics of change is just a change of the face making the claim. Two blogs you must read; The Dillard Doctrine writes an open letter to the DNC congratulating them on their historic moment and DC Thornton critiques More Leftist Dogma.  Big Dog and Bits Blog do a bit of fact checking. The best liveblogging of the speech is from Jim Holt at Gateway Pundit and Michelle Malkin.
