Me & Don
You may or may not know that one of the highlights of the MilBlog Conference this weekend was the early morning visit we had with Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. He answered some questions – and try as we might, we couldn’t get him to say evil things about the current administration. I was generally disappointed.
Rumsfeld did say that our policy on Libya is deeply flawed. He said that the coalition against Qaddafi should have developed a strategy and goals, and then formed a coalition around that policy, instead, the world formed the coalition first and now has an unclear set of goals. I agree with that. I’m sure Qaddafi agrees, too.
Anyway, Andi sent me this photo this morning of me getting my book signed (the real reason Rumsfeld was there). I spent my few moments with him insuring that he spelled my name correctly. I told him that Casper Weinberger spelled it right, so he should, too (I have a fairly large collection of signed first edition books, including Reagan’s SecDef Casper Weinberger’s memoirs). Rumsfeld has a place in our family’s history since he was Secretary of Defense in my early career and then again in my son’s career nearly thirty years later.
Yeah, that’s TSO in his formal wear sandals and shorts in the background taking pictures, too. Did I mention that TSO toured the Pentagon last year wearing his sandals and black socks? His kids are going to be so ashamed of his fashion sense.

You kiddin me, Jonn? They’re gonna have the SAME fashion sense, and add the backwards baseball cap while you’re at it.
But Rumsfeld’s comments (or lack thereof) show what a class act the previous administration was (and still is) compared to other Democrat administrations and presidents.
When are going to deal with our country’s problems.
i love rummy. i’m so jealous. 🙂
Rumsfeld is right about Libya, but I disagree with us on the right trying to resusitate his reputation. Irrespective of politics alot of his policy decisions hurt the Army.
