Falling into the media’s trap

| November 17, 2009

CBS News has published a new poll that declares Sarah Palin radioactive for Republicans. According to them, only 1 in 4 Americans view Sarah Palin favorably;

Just 23 percent of those surveyed in a new CBS News poll have a favorable view of the former Alaska governor. That matches her favorable rating in July, when Palin announced she was resigning from her job as governor.

Thirty-eight percent, meanwhile, have an unfavorable view of Palin — also roughly matching her July rating. Another 37 percent say they are undecided or haven’t heard enough, despite the spotlight on Palin in recent days tied to the imminent publication of her memoir, “Going Rogue.”

I’m pretty sure Ronald Reagan polled about the same way in 1977. The media pounded him pretty badly in the Republican primaries and treated him like a crank through Carter’s rush to give away the Panama Canal and reward draft dodgers with amnesty. Three years later, the American voter was tired of being blamed for our national problems constantly, being told how to dress in our own homes, being scolded for spending more time on our families than being part of the community and our national malaise.

Now, the media is trying to prevent Sarah Palin from stealing our attention from the President’s wildly successful presidency the same way they did Reagan. He was able to overcome the media bias against him with only Commentary magazine and The National Review as a megaphone.

The LA Times notices how scared the Democrats seem to be of Palin;

Every few minutes another note from Democratic National Committee operatives and others dropped into electronic mailboxes across the media-verse, helpfully passing on even the tiniest tidbit of negative news about Palin.

You know how sometimes a friend tells you how much he/she doesn’t really care about….

…someone else. Really doesn’t! And repeats it a sufficient number of times that you become convinced of precisely the opposite?

So here we are nearly three years away from the next election, at about the same point that Obama began his run at the 2008 election, and the media is trying to convince us that Palin doesn’t have a chance to win. I wonder why?

I wonder why?

You already know…..they’re scared shitless…..

VTWoody

I’m scared shitless….scared the GOP will support Palin. I watched the debates, the interviews, the left, the right…and through it all, she seems outclassed and out of her league. She contradicted and apologized for her opinion numerous times and really left me unimpressed. She’s nothing more then a publicity stunt that didn’t work and now won’t go away. I don’t see how you can be for her when she seems to be so, uneducated on the way the world works.

AFbrat

I keep thinking of “oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. The MSM just don’t get it. Try as they might to manipulate opinion, their true agenda always sees the light of truth sooner or later. They are able to fool many people for a while… even getting our incompetent president elected… but, to what ends? In considering Obama, he is proving to be less effective than Carter… leaving many who voted for him and all his kumbyah nonsense royally pissed! Hopefully (pardon the pun) they aren’t only angry at the administration but also realize the whammy the MSM perpetrated on them. If the average MSM watcher out there with half a brain pays attention this time, they should be highly suspect, at the very least, of the current portrayal of Palin. The MSM also don’t seem to understand, or recall, or believe, or care about, their very own low opinion ratings. Don’t their numbers come in shomewhere around the same as the current congressional approval ratings? Be that as it may, and considering that history repeats itself, especially in a huge country as ours with so many uninformed and/or memory impaired voters, it could likely be that Obama is our Carter and Palin is our Reagan.

BooRadley

I don’t know if Palin is it or not… but outclassed? seriously?
I’m ready for some regular people.

OldTrooper

Well, I’m a huge fan of leftists and rinos telling me who I should vote for, who is the leading candidate, who has the best chance of winning, blah, blah, blah.

That’s like me telling the drooling moonbats who they should vote for, who their leading candidate is, etc.

Screw ’em

AFbrat

I think, too, that she has a good year or 2 to bone up on geo-politics. If she does that, plus choses a good running mate and surrounds herself with competent advisors, she might have a chance. I saw her speak in person, very formitable speaker and had the whole place believing in America again. I’m not ready to jump on the “2012 Lipstick Express” but I do believe she has some of the qualities this country needs… steady compass & positive message.

VTWoody,

Think about what you said, “she seemed outclassed…she seemed uneducated…” It’s all about how she does on TV. Guess what, the guy that got elected seemed like he was smart and classy……how’d that turn out?

I’m also thinking that the powers that be in the GOP are not going to support her, not willingly.

The cover of the next Newsweek has her picture from Runner’s World magazine on the cover and the caption reads…

“How do you solve a problem like Sarah: She’s bad news for the GOP and everybody else too”

That right there is darn near enough for me to support her…..

At this moment, Palin is the only person worthy of my vote for president. No one else has the qualifications needed for the office, and I’m talking about true vision and leadership, not dumbass Harvard degrees.

My vote is precious to me. I earned it, and I will never again cast it for someone who is the lesser of two evils. I’ll vote for the person who i believe represents me, or I’ll not vote at all.

Palin has demonstrated executive skills far and above those of the current POTUS. She has the ability to converse naturally, and from the heart, rather than from prepared remarks via a teleprompter. She’s made choices and lived situations that the majority of Americans can relate to, can understand. She’s the real deal, and I pray to my Gods that she runs for the presidency, because this nation needs her.

IMHO, anyone who feels she hasn’t got what it takes is, at best, naive.

YMMV, but that’s how I see it.

Joe

As a devoted leftie, Republicans, please nominate Sarah, please!

AW1 Tim

Joe,

You lefty’s ought to remember to be careful what you wish for. Look how well your current “dream come true” is working out… 🙂

Claymore

Maybe I’m in the minority but beyond Palin’s charisma and her “regular Joe” approach to issues, I just don’t understand her appeal.

UpNorth

Joe, as a devoted rightie, please re-nominate the 0. 3 more years of his apology tours, dithering on national security, communist and socialist czars and deficits are bound to make the Carter years look like the good old days. Bet you’re looking forward to more foreclosures when Cap & Rape passes, and when Dodd and the rest of your lefties finish screwing up the economy?

bman

She seems very popular out here in western kansas, but who gives a shit. One farmer feeds 129 people and they got no vote.

Claymore

I could see Palin as a congresswoman or a Senator, but I just don’t think she has the depth and experience to be CinC…I mean, she might go overseas and bow to foreign leaders…shit like that which you’d never see from a president who’s been vetted correctly, amirite? Guys?

Joe

To paraphrase Churchill, Palin is a calamity wrapped in a disaster inside a catastrophe. The fact that otherwise rational conservatives (and there are a few) actually support her demonstrates the triumph of anti-intellectualism, the conservative notion that ignorance is a virtue – by that standard she is a paragon of virtue. The horror, the horror….

A Heros Friend

Jonn…I apologize for being late and not being able to answer Joe and his lame philosopies, but I was volunteering at my youngest childs High School…you know…standing around in the lunch room, watching kids talking on cell phones, listening to their Ipods ,wearing $200.00 dollar sneakers, lots of BLING,wearing the latest and trendiest clothes, while eating their free lunches…but thats for another post…but Joey..to paraphrase Winston Churchhill…”I may be drunk sir, but in the morning I will be sober, and you Joe, will still be a slobbering, left wing douche bag, assmunch”…time for you to go back down the Rabbit Hole and let the grown ups talk…thanks and stuff Joey !

NHSparky

Joe–before you point out the splinters, yadda, yadda, yadda…and here’s a tidbit showing how cerebral YOUR party’s leaders are:

Go Gata!

HM2(FMF/SW)Ret.

So, Ronald Reagan was a quitter with less than six sears leadership experience? The Great Ronald Reagan didn’t know the difference between Kuwait and Iraq? Seriously, Srah Palin is not the second coming of Reagan.

AW1 Tim

Sarah Palin may not be the 2nd Coming of Reagan, but she’s light years ahead of anyone else that conservatives can put forward.

HM2(FMF/SW)Ret.

Pretty sad isn’t it.

HM2(FMF/SW)Ret.

For the record, she isn’t light years ahead of Petraeus

NHSparky

Hey, pecker checker–Sarah still has light-years more experience and leadership ability than your buddy Zerobama, and I’m guessing she wouldn’t bow and grovel to anyone above the rank of dogcatcher like your hero.

Pretty sad isn’t it.

NHSparky

Hey, pecker-checker, ain’t it sad that the pride and joy of YOUR side of the aisle doesn’t know how to make a decision, would rather fix blame than problems, and bows and grovels to every guy who rates higher than dogcatcher on the foreign food chain? Trust me, in three years it’s gonna be hell finding anyone to admit they voted for Obama.

AW1 Tim

HM2,

I admire General Petraeus, but I don’t want him as President. He would be better served as either a National Security Adviser, or Secretary of Defense than as a President. Use folks where they are best suited. Palin makes a much better president. Glenn beck makes an excellent White House Press Secretary. Liz Cheney works well as Secretary of State, etc.

Just my 2-cents worth, mind you, but it’s how I see things.

Scrapiron

Let them keep pounding Palin. Everyone will remember the name when in the voting booth but only a few will remember what was said. Learned that in the service as words of wisdom from a commander. Proved true when promotion time came around.

Scrapiron

“Trust me, in three years it’s gonna be hell finding anyone to admit they voted for Obama.” I can’t find anyone who will admit it in public now. Millions of bumper stickers have disappeared, especially after a few which said ‘do you need the O’Dumbo bumper sticker as proof you’re stupid’ appeared.

scr_north

Hi all. I wouldn’t trust any of the polls being published by the msm on Palin right now. I looked at the cbs link and they don’t show any of the script or the complete question list (along with the order asked). I used to work for a polling group at the university I attended and the professor that ran the group would always hold a meeting with all the callers prior to any poll. He would alway impress upon them to never allow your voice to change when asking the questions because even something as simple as voice inflection can change the way some people will answer a question. The order of the questions is also critical to getting an accurate result. Have a look at the link I’ve attached. It’s from a british comedy show called “Yes, Prime Minister” and is a bit about how to get what you want from an opinion poll. It’s really quite true.

Just cut and paste it. As a bonus, it’s as funny as hell.

OldTrooper

Hey Joe: Go fuck yourself. You worthless hacks, that think you’re soooo intellectually superior to everyone else, are a fucking joke. You hang out with all your wannabe intellectual friends at the uber trendy snobbatorium sipping on your decaf non-fat soy latte with your limp wrists and reinforce each other with empty praise for thinking you’re so smart. You morons supported an empty suit that is in way over his head. You morons couldn’t find your ass with both hands and a road map. You idiots would starve to death if Whole Foods ever went under.

How do I know all this? Because I have been around your type for decades. In order to feel smarter than everyone else you read books by obscure authors, laud “art” that looks like a dog just created it out in the alley and then praise each other for liking the same piece of shit.

Before you post, next time, take the turtle neck off, it’s cutting off circulation to your melon.

“CBS News has published a new poll that declares Sarah Palin radioactive for Republicans. According to them, only 1 in 4 Americans view Sarah Palin favorably;”

#1 – OF COURSE Sarah is radioactive to the Country Club Repubs. Why? Because they’re DemLites, not conservatives.

#2 – And the MSM / CBS had to look far and wide, and vett their poll very carefully, to find 5 people that would answer the way they wanted the results to show.

ROS

I’m curious as to whom the Harvard graduate mentioned above would be.

I’m hoping it wasn’t meant to refer to the Messiah because I’ve yet to see college transcripts proving that little fact.

Oh, wait! We aren’t allowed to know the facts or see the “real” O, only that carefully manicured persona his acolytes have put forth.

Claymore

For the record, a whole passel of “intellectuals” curiously created or saved a shit load of jobs in completely fictional congressional districts….I guess they might be in one of those other 57 states PrezBo visited while he was campaigning, but you have to admire an intellect that can plumb the depths of bullshit to assemble media pablum like that. Why, you might even say it’s downright Orwellian.
