F(riday) is for Follow-ups

| March 1, 2024

Remember a bit back when an F-35 got all FODded up when a ground crew member left a tool, reportedly a flashlight, in the intake? Didn’t we set up a pool for how bad the damage was going to be?

In March 2023, a maintenance team at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona was scheduled to work on an F-35. The Time Compliance Technical Directive required the team to remove a panel and insert a metering plug into an engine fuel line to check for fuel leaks.

The engine run was completed with no visual evidence that something was wrong but once the engine was shut down, the team said they heard a noise.  IEN

Whoever had the square for $3,933,106 wins! Call it almost a third of a whole F-16. Your winnings as\re payable upon proof of the matching entry.

Our favorite judge in CA, Roger Benitez (aka the only sane judge in the state) struck down one of California’s myriad “you can’t defend ANYTHING laws:

The lawsuit was brought by plaintiff Russell Fouts against California Attorney General Rob Bonta over the state law making it a crime to carry or even possess a billy club.

The term remains vague today and may encompass a metal baton, a little league bat, a wooden table leg, or a broken golf club shaft, all of which are weapons that could be used for self-defense but are less lethal than a firearm.”  Fox News

So Man’s second oldest weapon, the stick, has been saved. I suspect the oldest, a stone, was probably next.

The FCC has been under pressure from activist groups to force broadcast stations to publish their employees ethnic and racial backgrounds since the ’90s.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is enacting a new policy that will require broadcast stations to publicly disclose the demographic composition of their employees, raising concerns about the potential for identity-based hiring practices.

In a narrow 3-2 vote, the FCC approved a policy requiring broadcast stations to submit annual reports detailing the racial, ethnic, and gender makeup of their workforce. This requirement, which was initially proposed in the 1990s but suspended due to confidentiality concerns, has now been revived, prompting fears that it could incentivize broadcasters to prioritize diversity quotas and hire a candidate based on their race and/or gender rather than a merit-based hiring system.

FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr voiced strong opposition to the decision…

He is not a reactionary knee-jerk anti-quota guy – he is their former General Counsel and as of May 2022 Biden named him to RUN the FCC. If HE says this will lead to quotas hiring, believe him.

And one of our favorite topics – Alec Baldwin* may not be on trial but the armorer, Hannah Guttierez, is. Remember how folks say “when the FBI tested the gun, it was broken”?

An FBI expert testified in court Monday that the revolver used by Baldwin was fully functional with safety features when it arrived at an FBI laboratory. The expert said he had to strike the fully-cocked gun with a mallet and break it in order for it to fire without depressing the trigger.

Haag, an Arizona-based consultant and expert in Old West firearms, testified Tuesday that he saw no evidence that the gun was broken or modified before it was tested by the FBI.  AP

Sounds like live rounds got where they shouldn’t have, which probably IS her problem. But Baldwin’s “it went off by itself” defense is blown out of the water. Not to mention, whose finger was on the trigger?

* Strictly speaking the gun shown in the photo is an 1858 model Remington percussion revolver and Baldwin used a replica 1873 Colt – I know there are folks here who would notice and complain.

Yay, more forced quota hiring, now watch that turn things further to shit.

The Democrats have had a hard on for talk radio for 40 years. It’s one thing to be interested but it’s another thing to be so gropey Joe about it.

Odie

So now the FCC is finally allowing the democrats to finish their circular hand shaped exercises and letting them smoke a cigarette?

The democrats will soon catch their breath and claim to be ready for another round when something else catches their attention.

Roh-Dog

Oh really? Now do taxpayer subsidized NPR!

If they don’t have “muh diversity” down to the fraction, I want my money back.

Slow Joe

Who elected the FCC?
Why do they get to decide?
Isn’t that Congress prerogative?

Odie

Lately it seems Congress has abdicated its duty except to collect paychecks, dine on lobbyists dime, send money to foreign lands to protect ” their” borders, tell us how hard it is to write, pass and enforce our border security since at least 1982, and take breaks, vacations and pass shit in the middle of the night or during a superbowl football game when most eyes are looking elsewhere.

Congress can GFT.

Roh-Dog

Congress can GFT.

I second the motion on the floor and request a roll call vote for the record.

AYE! Kongress Kritters of ALL ilks are only concerned about their power and their $. Self enrichment is their game. Saw a blurb on evening last about an OK kritter that bought up a bunch of stock in a water meter company. Two weeks later a contract was announced that a major city was going to replace all of the water meters to the tune of nearly $100 million. Kritter made hisself a very nice profit very quickly.

“Can you see the light?” The F35 looked hungry so I fed it a light snack.

The good looking, whyte, well spoken, weather girl on the local broadcasters in my AO have become as scarce as the whyte men…that had the same attributes. If we could go back to checking the box of most qualified for jobs, that would be great.

My “Billy Club” self identifies as a “Billie Club”. So stunning and brave! Let he who is without a sinful club cast the FIRST (ht2 CW) stone. Abel was unavailable for comment.

We called it! AB will walk and the armorer will take a ride under the bus. Plenty of guilt to be shared, but AB will graciously give his share to her.

I know there are folks here who would notice and complain.” Whut?

I don’t know who was saying the gun was broken (other than Baldwin); what I heard consistently and from the beginning was that the FBI test results showed the gun functioned properly. If someone was saying otherwise, they were spreading fake news, or disinformation or misinformation or malinformation or whatever we’re calling it this week.

The Armorer is a scapegoat. No doubt she carries a lot of responsibility from what I’ve heard…she either brought live ammo onto the set, or allowed it to be brought and used in the guns she was responsible for…but also from what I’ve heard, the entire production team all the way to the top was playing fast and loose with safety regulations.

And, as you said, Alex was the one with his finger on the trigger.

But they’ll perform a ritual sacrifice of this relatively low level player and then pretend like justice was done, so the more “important” people can get on with their “important” work of propagandizing the masses.

Sailorcurt

Sorry, “Alec” not “Alex”. Why did they have to put the x and c keys right next to each other?

SgtM

Well the Conservative Circus has nothing to worry about. James T Harris is at the helm.

Passed their “assault stick” ban after Rodney King, didn’t they?

The F35 story reminds me of an idiot I used to work with. He left a roll of gun tape inside a CF18 drop tank which was then mounted to an A/C and filled with JP8 and flown to Florida where the fuck up was detected. It wasn’t pretty 😬

Basic tire checker.
Inexpensive at most truck stops.
Legality varies by state.
For decades, I carry this in my vehicles that have trailer hitches.
Towing or not.
Hitch mount and ball attached or not.

I’ve only ever had to brandish this once.

Occasionally when my hip is acting up, I even use it for walking.

(I didn’t buy it from where that images is from, that’s just the best picture I could find. I bought it direct from the manufacturer’s website where you can custom order.

Honestly, I’d like to see a 3-way “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” standoff with LIZ Cheney, Joe Walsh (the deadbeat dad ex-congresscritter), and Alec Baldwin. No matter who falls, I’m happy.

CCO

Wait; the FBI destroyed a key piece of evidence—the weapon used—in the Alec Baldwin case? OK; hit it with a hammer until it broke, but still.

“…the revolver used by Baldwin was fully functional with safety features…”

A revolver with “safety features”???

11B-Mailclerk

Some replica Peacemakers have an extra-long cylinder base pin with two lock notches, as a “safety” to pass nitwit laws like California. Push it in to the first notch and the gun works normally. Push in to the second notch and the pin blocks the fall of the hammer just enough to block a strike on the primer, thus “safety”.

Dang things often get replaced between notches, whereupon holstering pushes the dang thing to “safe”.

When this happens on the clock at a match, it doesn’t help, at all. In real life? Ouch. Some days the bear gets you.

Thus the knowledgeable grind off a bit so it works from notch 2. Or replace it with a proper one-notch pin.
