Damn! Mr Gardener was found (and apparently resuscitated) too soon after his OD. Just a little longer wait and let the drugs finish their job. Too bad. Now the taxpayers are on the hook for medical and incarceration.
Should have found him “too late”, and then planted Mr Gardener in a garden. Make his death useful for something.
Awwwww….what a cute little pinkie pocket pistol.
Don’t lose it in with your pocket change.
Looks like an ideal belt buckle, bad breath, belly button gun.
How about this one?
The Ma Bell of weapons….Reach out and touch someone. (which “someone” I won’t say)
This is for fighting.
This is for fun.
I gots a “gun” she can put in her “pocket”.
Might be worth noting that two of the correct names for the lowly .380 are .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) and 9mm Browning. Yeah, the big guy hisself.
Looks like some of TAH’s followers are a little behind in new firearms development and advancements in ballistics.
Ol’ Poe recently bought Miz Poe the Ruger depicted here after doing extensive research on the topic of .380’s for self defense. There are plenty of ballistics tests out there showing that there are .380 defensive rounds that perform as well as popular 9mm’s. Remember, .380 Colt is just a shorty-nine.
The dissing of the .380 is akin to the argument about the .22 long rifle for self-defense: You hear lots of experts pooh-poohing the defensive capabilities of the world’s most popular self defense round, yet you never hear any of those pundits volunteering to self-test their premise. Of course, bigger tends to be better in firearms, but bigger is never better than nothing at all.
This new Ruger is receiving high marks from frankly surprised online reviewers, especially for a “contemptible” .380. But the real selling point for the Poe’s was the weapon’s incredibly easy “lite” racking. Racking has long been a problem for female, handicapped and senior shooters. Poe can attest, after almost six years of debilitating cancer chemo and radiation, that it can also become a problem for old geezers like him.
Oh, I’m not dissing on the 380 itself. It’s a fine round, as smaller rounds go.
But to my mind;
380 = smaller case = less powder = shorter distance
BBBBBB gun above = shorter barrel = shorter range AND less accuracy beyond a certain range.
Hence the “up close and personal” sobriquets.
But you’re right, nothing wrong with a 380 round.
By the way, you should check out this piece. It’s not your typical makeup bag .380. It’s a nice handful for most female shooters with its double-stack, fifteen round mag option, and felt recoil is damned near nonexistent.
The gun you have beats the ideal gun at home, every time.
Yup…
Technique can help with that racking issue.
(Some folks may not know the below.)
If the “slingshot” method is insufficient, try this instead. Hold the pistol across the body. Place the free hand over the slide, elbow high to clear the muzzle. Squeeze hard. Using the now opposed arms, push hard with both. Generally works better for hard-sprung guns.
Depending on location/range, turn 45 to 90 degrees to the side to keep the muzzle towards the boom catcher.
I’ve used that method a couple of times on hard slides and since I bought the Springfield
XDe 9MM, the slide slides with very little effort and slicker than nose snot.
Talk about racking, I bought my first Florida gun when I moved down here which is a ROHRBAUGH
R9 9MM, 6RD Mag. The gun is one inch shorter than the above .380 Ruger but to rack the slide, it takes at least 2 men and a boy. Their is no slide lock to lock it when the gun is empty and the mag release is on the grip bottom like my Colt pocket .25Cal. To field strip it, you need the 2 men and a boy to pull the slide back a little and then slide out the barrel pin and slide the slide to the front. very strong fingers are needed to pull out the recoil spring assembly and Putting it back together, the owner of the company advises to use a pair of channel locks to capture/compress the spring and fit it in. I bought a good pair of channel locks and filed out a half round notch on one plier side to fit on the round rod above tthe spring coil to get it in. Used it at the range once, cleaned it and it hasn’t been shot since but I still carry it along with my springfield XDe .9MM. The family crest is on the grips and if I still had my U-Boot book on conning tower painted designs, I would have looked for his family crest if the man served on those Boats.
Agreed, racking matters. You can get someone else to set it up but you still need to be able cycle a magazine for as much as routine maintenance.
Ever want to see clever, family friendly, yet epic PITA karmic payback on the idiots who block traffic as “protest”?

If any of you are having age/health-related problems with your firearms, this should be interesting to you. Lots of .380 skeptics are coming around.
