CNO- Non-Provocative Navy

Chief of Naval Operations Gilday

Navy Should Be ‘In the Way,’ But ‘Non-Provocative,’ CNO Says

Speaking less than a week after an “unsafe maritime interaction” with China in the Taiwan Strait, Adm. Mike Gilday said the U.S. wants “things to remain stable and predictable.”

The U.S. Navy must stay forward and “in the way” to deter nations that challenge international rules, the chief of naval operations said Wednesday, days after a Chinese ship crossed dangerously close to American and Canadian navy ships in the Taiwan Strait.

“We can’t just be milling about. It has to be purposeful, and it has to be non-provocative,” Adm. Mike Gilday said at a Brookings Institution event.

On Saturday, the destroyer USS Chung-Hoon and the Canadian frigate HMCS Montreal were traveling through the Taiwan Strait, “where high seas freedoms of navigation and overflight apply,” when a Chinese navy destroyer twice cut across the bow of the Chung-Hoon, according to a press release by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

The Chung-Hoon had to slow down to avoid hitting the Chinese destroyer, which at one point was just 150 yards away, according to the release.

“We are operating in accordance with international law, under, on, and above the sea so that others can too. And so we’re trying to operate very responsibly,” Gilday said Wednesday. “We are not looking to be provocative.

Defense One

I feel ill, but this does help explain all the recent churn at Big Navy. Gilday is a White House sycophant and a staunch defender of woke literature right up until he was called out by congress critters. The titles on his CNO Reading List included Ibram X. Kendi’s “How to Be an Antiracist,” Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow,’ and Jason Pierceon’s “Sexual Minorities and Politics.”

Gilday said that Kendi’s opus was included because “it evokes the author’s own personal journal in understanding barriers to true inclusion, the deep nuances of racism and racial inequalities.”

The list has since been updated and the offending titles replaced. But then there’s the mysterious and still unexplained disappearance of Gay Pride Month celebratory messages from Navy social media. Who made that call? Certainly not Admiral Milquetoast.

Read this, Admiral.

I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm’s way.

Except the last one isn’t a real book. Nice Clancy reference, though.😂

I actually think that the CNO wants a stable of fan room bois and to be “under way” and “not at the pier”.

Nimitz, Halsey, King and Spruance look down and wonder who this pathetic little man is wearing the uniform of a United States Navy Admiral.

Non-Provocative?
WTH does that even mean?

Might as well stay on shore at home base.

Ouch!

Big Navy sure did dodge a bullet on that one.

The Navy was never like this back in 1963 when I served.

rgr769

The entire DOD’s armed forces were never like this back then and for many years thereafter.

Army-Air Force Guy

That was the problem with the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941- it was “stable and predictable”

Devtun

US Fleet commander, ADM James O. Richardson, sharply protested the deployment of the Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Hawaii in 1940. He didn’t believe Hawaiii & Guam could defend itself from Japanese attack. He was such an irritant to the CNO, the SECNAV, and the President, that Pres Roosevelt had enough and fired the admiral. He was replaced by ADM Husband Kimmel. James O. Richardson – Wikipedia

ADM Harry Yarnell in a war gaming exercise in 1932 demonstrated that Pearl Harbor was vulnerable to naval aerial attack. His findings were dismissed by superiors in Washington. Harry E. Yarnell – Wikipedia

Seems like all the honchos at the JCS want to earn their presidential kneepads.

Claw

Speaking of the JCS, has anybody else taken notice of the changing color scheme within their ranks?

Later on this summer when Milley-Vanilli is replaced by Brown, the Chairman will be Air Force.

The SEAC (Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman) is already Air Force.

The newly added Space Force Chairman is originally an Air Force type.

The Senior National Guard Advisor is Air Force./ Oops, strike that. The Senior Enlisted Advisor to the National Guard Advisor is Air Force. Mea Culpa

And of course, whoever replaces Brown as a Joint Chairman will be Air Force.

So, OD Green is out and the new “Go Woke or Go Broke” color is blue.

Pray for us, we’ll need it. / s

Most liberal, least hardcore of the services– “Oh, all that Duty, Honor, Country stuff is obsolete; today we compare ourselves to civilian industry!” one happily told me 32 years ago.

P.S. Apologies to Airmen who’ve got a pair, but too many of your bros jack it it up for the rest of y’all.

No doubt. They went from a bunch of wet-blanket Bible thumpers at the Academy to a bunch of woke pussies. I wouldn’t hang out with either of those groups. But then, I was a Prime BEEF Civil Engineer, so we did construction, drank beer, and raised hell.

At least the Rand Corporation has decided that the military isn’t full of racists currently. I told you guys keeping them out of the laundry room would work.

Navy should have testosterone and a backbone.

Right now they’ve the backbone of a sailors w**g after an all-nighter at the whore house.

Well, looking at how Afghanistan fell apart, we’ve had a non-winning military for the whole of this Administration, so it all seems to be par for the course.

Gilday is the Navy’s canker sore that won’t go away.

Retired Mustang

Perhaps the CNO needs a refresher on Maritime Law (still unratified by the US Congress) and why a “destroyer” is well….provocative.
I hope Captains at sea keep their shit wired tight. The CNO’s guidance essentially makes them a target for future harassment.
