Teenagers were out of control in Chicago, engaging in activities like attacking people, damaging vehicles, and causing tourists to panic. Sounds of gunfire were heard during the ruckus. One of the Chicago residents that was interviewed commented on how she understood how people wanted to have a great time, but indicated that these teenagers’ actions reflected bad parenting.

Large groups of teens were seen blasting music from Bluetooth speakers and roaming in front of traffic, with some attempting to gain access to the city’s Millennium Park, which is off-limits to those under 21 after certain hours, and the downtown Art Institute.
Some teens in the group began jumping up and down on cars, smashing windows and attacking people inside. One woman told Fox 32 her husband was attacked from the driver side of his vehicle and beaten after a group of teens jumped up and down on the couple’s windshield. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Hundreds of police officers assisted by SWAT teams descended on downtown in an attempt to restore order as gunfire was reported multiple times amid the unfolding scene.
Police were seen escorting frightened tourists back to their cars or hotels to escape the chaos, and traffic on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue ground to a halt as police attempted to restore order.
Police say a 6-year-old boy was shot in the arm near the Chicago Loop and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Northwestern Hospital and listed in fair condition, according to a report from WLS.
Fox 32 reported that the chaos appeared to be another “Teen Takeover” of the city that was planned on social media, noting that a similar scene played out in Chicago last year.

So they had advance warning of its occurrence, it has happened before, so they knew what to expect would go on this time, and it took them by surprise, and of course, they didn’t really bother to react to it, just let it go on. Glad I live in free red America.
I remember riding the train from Great Mistakes to downtown Chicago in “A” school on the weekends. As soon as we got off, we’d get mobbed by extremely aggressive panhandlers, who of course, went straight for the kids in their dress blues.
That was 21 years ago. From what I’m seeing lately, now I wouldn’t be surprised if you were just attacked and robbed instead as soon as you stepped off the platform.

I went to biz conference in Chicago and stayed at the Trump Int’l right on the river. Ate steaks at Smith & Wollensky and went to Navy Pier, but we didn’t go much further. That was 2016-17, and its only getting worse. I went to the Taste of Chicago/Rush ST. in ’92 with a friend from Des Plaines who said I should leave NY/NJ for Chi-town. I moved to Florida a few years later. Best move I ever made.

It is just amazing how fast things go bad. Twenty five years ago I worked both in Chicago and the NYC areas on computer projects (I was, in fact, a Y2K warrior, but that’s a story for another time.) In Chicago the office and hotel we stayed at was south of the river and we freely roamed the area after work, going to dinner, the bars, shopping, Millenial Park, the Miracle Mile and riding the el as needed. On the east coast, the customer office was in New Jersey but the closest hotels were in Manhattan via the PATH train under the river. No problems there either, walking to dinner or riding the subway. In both cases there were certain parts of town to avoid but the business areas were safe, based on what I saw.
Now, I’m avoiding cities entirely.

TBH, I can’t recall any time a large city didn’t smell like #1 and sometimes #2. In the past though the Devil’s Lettuce was kept down to a minimum. Nowadays they seem to be happy to be blitzed most of the time.
