This is stolen valor adjacent. He didn’t so much steal any military valor, but he’s certainly stolen a lot from the suffering of the Jewish People.
George Santos, a Republican out of Long Island, won an upset victory against an incumbent Democrat. Of course, nobody in the media looked into any of his claims until well after it would have done something to affect the electorate. Namely that he lied about his education, his work history, his heritage, and probably everything else too.
Breitbart has several reports on the matter;
The New York Times examined the narrative Santos, 34, presented to voters during his successful campaign for a congressional district that straddles the north shore suburbs of Long Island and a sliver of Queens.
The Times uncovered records in Brazil that show Santos was the subject of a criminal investigation there in 2008 over allegations that he used stolen checks to buy items at an clothing shop in the city of Niteroi. At the time, Santos would have been 19. The Times quoted local prosecutors as saying the case was dormant because Santos had never appeared in court.
Santos continued to deny that he was being sought by authorities in South America.
Democrats pounced, calling Santos a serial fabulist and demanded he voluntarily not take office.
In an interview with the New York Post earlier this week, Santos apologized for his fabrications but downplayed them as “sins” over embellishing his resume, adding that “we do stupid things in life.”
He admitted to lying about working for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, as well as having earned a degree in finance and economics from Baruch College in New York.
Beyond his resume, Santos invented a life story that has also come under question, including claims that his grandparents “fled Jewish persecution in Ukraine, settled in Belgium, and again fled persecution during WWII.”
During his campaign, he referred to himself as “a proud American Jew.”
He backtracked on that claim, saying he never intended to claim Jewish heritage, which would have likely raised his appeal among his district’s significant ranks of Jewish voters.
“I am Catholic,” he told the Post. “Because I learned my maternal family had a Jewish background I said I was ‘Jew-ish.’”
Rep.-elect George Santos, R-N.Y., admitted Monday that he lied about his job experience and college education during his successful campaign for a seat in the U.S. House.
In an interview with the New York Post, Santos said: “My sins here are embellishing my resume. I’m sorry.”
He also told the newspaper: “I campaigned talking about the people’s concerns, not my resume” and added, “I intend to deliver on the promises I made during the campaign.”
The New York Times raised questions last week about the life story that Santos, 34, had presented during his campaign.
The Queens resident had said he had obtained a degree from Baruch College in New York, but the school said that couldn’t be confirmed.
On Monday, Santos acknowledged: “I didn’t graduate from any institution of higher learning. I’m embarrassed and sorry for having embellished my resume.”
He added: “I own up to that. … We do stupid things in life.”
Santos had also said he had worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, but neither company could find any records verifying that.
Santos told the Post he had “never worked directly” for either financial firm, saying he had used a “poor choice of words.”
Sounds like he’ll fit in perfectly in D.C. None of them ever tell it straight and truthful either. Another article I can’t find immediately said he had a dog and cat charity that may or may not have been legit.

Demo-rats howling he should be DQ-ed for his made-up backstory while fawning over Biden with diminished mental capacity and a lengthily history of lies is laughable.
If he didn’t break any laws, then he’ll have to reconcile with the voters come next election.

The good thing here is that he is a well known confessed liar at the start. Since he can no longer pretend to be anything other a greasy eel, there is nowhere to go but up.
Kind of ironic that he was able to secure the seat when JR Majewski’s campaign crashed like the aircraft of a disbarred attorney in the Florida Everglades. The opposition research machine in New York needs some calibration.
May be a Democrat who ran as a Republican just to screw things up and be this way about it. If so, they knew.

Only thing I can think of is they didn’t think he’d actually win, so they didn’t put any time/money into looking into it.
He ran against the same person in 2020 and lost by a few thousand votes.
His opponent knew he was a serious challenger and never looked into his claims.
That tells me the guy deserved to lose for being incompetent.
My father ran for a state seat and his opponent fact checked every claim. But his military record took too long to get back so he questioned my dads service. Which pissed off the county party chair of the opponent who had served with him in Vietnam.
IOW, he’s just not as good at hiding his bullshit as the other 534 members of Congress.
But he still needs to go.
