Canadian VA official offers assisted suicide to Canadian veteran

| December 6, 2022

Christine Gauthier, 52, served in the Canadian Military, and also competed for Canada at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. She put in a request to have a wheelchair lift installed in her home. She subsequently received a response from a VA (Canada) official who offered her a medically-assisted suicide kit. This was not the first time that this VA official made this kind of offer. Medically-assisted suicide has been offered in Canada since 2016.

From Fox News:

Christine Gauthier, a 52-year-old retired corporal who competed in the 2016 Paralympics at Rio De Janeiro, testified to lawmakers that a VA official had offered — in writing — to provide her with a medically-assisted suicide kit. The case officer remains unnamed but reportedly made similar offers to at least three other veterans, according to the Independent.

“I have a letter saying that if you’re so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical assistance in dying,” Gauthier said in a hearing before the House of Commons veterans affairs committee.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the incident in a public statement on Friday after Gauthier said she personally wrote him a letter on the issue.

“We are following up with investigations and we are changing protocols to ensure what should seem obvious to all of us: that it is not the place of Veterans Affairs Canada, who are supposed to be there to support those people who stepped up to serve their country, to offer them medical assistance in dying,” Trudeau said.

Canada first approved medically-assisted suicide in 2016, and the parameters around allowing it have since loosened. The law originally legalized assisted suicide only for those facing imminent death, but it now also includes those who suffered severe pain or disabilities, according to the Independent.

Gauthier’s story comes just weeks after a Canadian fashion company glorified assisted suicide in a commercial.

Canadian fashion company La Maison Simons promoted the “beauty” in voluntary euthanasia in a promotional video titled “All is Beauty.” The ad includes a voiceover from Jennyfer Hatch, a 37-year-old Canadian woman who voluntarily euthanized herself after suffering from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

“Last breaths are sacred. Even though as I seek help to end my life, with all the pain and in these final moments, there is still so much beauty,” Hatch says in the Simons video.

A wheelchair lift? FUCK no! But here’s this nifty little kit we’ve assembled to help you kill yourself, instead!

Canada is FUCKED! In EVERY facet, and from TOP to BOTTOM! Just plain FUCKED!

YEAH! All those vets who served our country with such courage and honor, having limbs with which you were born: 2 legs, arms and hands along with 2 eyes,2 ears & even a face. You were STATE OF THE ART, AMERICA’S FINEST DEFENDERS, and WARRIORS! You took care of business as only military men and women trained to! Parents, siblings spouses, children and friends, even the mailman and your church congregation prayed everyday for your safe return.
You did return. Mangled! Sadly, many had terrible injuries: burns, brutal and deep cuts or injuries within the torsos.
Too many men and women sustained injuries which resulted in loss of vital limbs or eyes.Warriors who were unable to walk off the plane were escorted by troops or medics on stretchers, some using crutches, some rolling down the chute in wheelchairs, tragically and to our breaking hearts others came home on a different flight,in a military issue casket, under the world’s most beautiful flag. YOU are America’s FINEST. Thank you!

I’m just a 84 y/o whose family has served in the military as far back as our history records. Most of you have too and I just want to tell each of you how very much I appreciate your patriotic service to this great country in other places around, above, beneath, on the surfaces of, our conflicted world. Sadly we have lost many of the great men and women who posted on this site. I pray that the Angels wafted them with gentle wings into heaven and that God continues to comfort their families.
I have great admiration for the interesting commentary and comedy! Sometimes I feel just like I’m a kid again hearing the guys in the family carrying on with Daddy.I don’t mean to intrude here but I do want you to know how much I respect you and yes, it’s true,l love you guys and dear OAM to whom I extend my sincere condolences. If I may consult with an editor I would be grateful.Thank you all and God bless you.
Sincerely, e.conboy

I used to wonder how Canada could be so screwed up during the last 10-20 years, and just never looked into the why of it. Then this video popped up in my recommended section and it’s kind of a bizaro mirror image of the US. I guess I have a little better understanding of what’s wrong with our cousins.

Surprised the Canadian agent for T-4 didn’t add, “just think of the planet!”

This is not sick. This is pure Evil.

FuzeVT

I agree with you there.

That being said, I’m guessing the T-4 reference is pretty obscure. Even for your typical WWII enthusiast, that is not something most would know – at least by name. I don’t think I’m wrong about this, but I guess I could be. The audience here seems to be pretty historically educated.

P.S. It’s people! Soylent Green is people!

(Leftists may like that next month.)

I am not surprised. This is socialized medicine after all. The person who said that was just looking out for the country and it’s productive tax payers don’tcha know…

Seriously, this is a sick and disgusting system. I don’t know who said it but the quote stuck with me.

Paraphrasing. Once you decide there is a right to die, soon it may evolve to a duty to die.

Happened before.

If you don’t think this is the endgame of the (D)emon-rats, you ain’t payin’ attention folks.

Reject God, and there is no logical reason to treat other human beings with care and concern. Get rid of the undesirables and make everyone’s life so much better… or at least quit bothering those in power.

Just ask the Khmer Rouge.

Wonder if the MAID package comes with a nice protein based last meal and a soothing, colorful movie? Will there be transport to a processing facility?

The future is here…now.

MustangCPT

Hey, remember, Soylent Green is people!

MustangCPT

Gingerbread, my ass.

Seriously, what marketing genius thought that naming the company after the movie was a good idea?

I thought I was familiar with Logan’s Run, but watching the below clip, man… it’s so much more. Is it an allegory on why to never enter a mall and/or DC again?

That dude better watch out, entering the Senate Chamber without superduperspecial permission will get you locked up for almost 3 years and counting!

(Love the ‘into the daylight of knowing’ trope stolen hard af from THX 1138)

No problem.

Still pretty pissed that the Canadian VA thinks what they did was ok. Might start referring to Canada as Nazi Canada. (No offense intended to any Canucks on the blog)

Nazis went to the gallows at NÜrnberg thinking they did the right thing, too.

Just when you think America is #1 with the most fucked VA in the modern world along comes Canada to show us up.

Canada VA says, “Oh, you got injured in the service? Go kill yourself”.

Anonymous

Wait ’til the VA thinks that’s innovative.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

“Oh? Because I’m injured in the line of duty, you want me to kill myself? You first! Show me how it’s done.”
