Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe, Medal of Honor recipient

Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe

One of this site’s favorite heroes, US Army Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe, will be receiving his posthumous Medal of Honor in a White House ceremony tomorrow. This concludes a 16 year fight to get him the recognition he so well deserves. I wrote about Cashe for a Valor Friday piece a while back, which details the incredible, and ultimately fatal, heroism the platoon sergeant displayed in Iraq.

For those inclined to watch the proceedings, the event will be live-streamed here https://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/27857. It will begin at 1330 EST 16 December, 2021.

Here is the Army’s write up on Cashe; https://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/cashe/

Also being awarded Medals of Honor at tomorrow’s ceremony are Master Sergeant Earl Plumlee (a Green Beret), who you can read about here, and Sergeant First Class Christopher Celiz (an Army Ranger), a posthumous award, which you can read about here.

Both Cashe’s and Plumlee’s awards are upgrades from previously awarded Silver Stars. Celiz’s award appears to be an upgrade from a Bronze Star Medal for Valor. Prior to the above listed information from the Army, the details of Celiz’s actions went un-reported. All three men have most definitely should have been appropriately honored sooner.

These men truly lived and exemplify the mottos of their respective units.

  • Cashe, of the 15th Infantry Regiment, “Can Do”,
  • Plumlee, “De Opresso Liber” (Latin for “to liberate the oppressed”), and
  • Celiz, “Rangers Lead the Way”

I will never understand why a true hero like SFC Cashe is ignored by the Black Community, while thugs like Lebron James are held in the highest respect.

SFC D

That’s a mystery for the ages. You won’t see any neighborhood monuments or memorials to this good man.

AW1Ed

I’d explain it to you, but let’s focus on what’s important here. Three Americans are finally being afforded the honors they most certainly deserve, after waiting far too long.

^^^^THIS!^^^^

“….Americans…”

SFC D

My apologies, AW1ED. A glass will be raised tonight at the Cantina, in recognition of these men and those like them.

LeBron? He’s a wannabe who plays ball. St. Floyd of Fentanyl is where it’s at!

IMHO LeBron James has the maturity of a spoiled toddler.

This country’s level of recognition finally is inline with the sacrifices of Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe.

I pray for Sergeant Cashe, his family, friends, Soldiers and this country.

Took long enough!

“That such men lived…”

I raise a very frosty mug of Yuengling to each of these Heros.

Jonn Lilyea smiles as he clinks tankards with SFC Cashe.

The best thing that ever happened to race relations in America was when Harry Truman desegregated the military. It now is the most egalitarian society in American history.
When MLK is actually quoted correctly, it is people like SFC Cashe that prove the worth of every American.
RIP SFC Cashe, you earned your peace and filled us with the respect of your never ending bravery and the character of your soul.

Long, long overdue. Rest In Hallowed Peace SFC Alwyn Cashe, you’ve earned your place in History and Valhalla.

You can bet that Jonn will be watching.

Wiz

I would imagine that his legacy will be carried by the six as they honor/honored him with some form of his name being bestowed upon their newborns.

Dustoff

FINALLY.

Berliner

Agreed. Long overdue. He put his life before his troops. God did gain an angel. May he watch over and be proud of his son, Andrew.

Poetrooper

The award ceremony is taking place right now and FJB is flubbing it, as usual…

FuzeVT

Yeah. . . I saw that. well at least the other members of one seven five can be proud.

President Soup Sandwich.

Old Creepy joe F’ed up big time…even said the guy standing next to him was a posthumous award. Scumbag Joe needs to be ushered into a dementia ward as in right now:

RGR 4-78

My heart goes out to all three families, your sacrifice has been monumental.

USAFRetired

I watched the ceremony live online.

Observations

!. Either the Marine reading the citations was wrong or or Dementia Joe as Biden pronounced SFC Cashe with a LONG A sound and the reader with a SHORT A sound

2. The sign language interpreter was a very distracting with all the facial expressions and way behind the adjutant who was reading the citation.

3. Even though he was standing next to THE President the adjutant read the MSgt citations as a posthumous
award.

4. Assuming he is still on Active duty you’d have thought the Army/DOD would have found some way to have SFC Cashe’s son present with his mom on stage.

5. They were late. Doesn’t anyone associated with this understand what Time on Target means.

USMC Steve

I would expect that the sign language folks have one of the toughest jobs in the Xiden regime.

And the guy read what they gave him. Cannot totally blame him for that outfit being as fucked up as a football bat.

USAFRetired

The way he chose to pronounce it THE President of the United States. Is he a disgruntled Ohio State fan? ie THE Ohio State University.

Slow Joe

Finally.
