The Circular Firing Squad Continues

When you find yourself ten feet deep in a hole; drop the shovel.

San Fran Nan apparently never heard that sage wisdom.

Pelosi: Bush briefers lied to me

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Bush administration told her explicitly they weren’t using waterboarding on terror detainees during a Sept. 2002 briefing on interrogation tactics — months after they had begun waterboarding Abu Zabaydah.

Pelosi also called on CIA director Leon Panetta to release full details on her briefing — and shook her head in the affirmative when asked if the administration had actually “lied” to her.

“The only mention of waterboarding in the briefing was that it was not being employed,” she told reporters, reading from a prepared statement — twice for emphasis.

The intelligence briefers gave Pelosi, she said, “inaccurate and incomplete information.”

This is going to get real ugly.

No doubt Penetta is pounding out some Power Point presentations showing Dick Cheney personally waterboarding small children and unicorns but this is not going to make this issue go away.

There will be a ton of mud tossed about and Langley will start leaking all over the place. Frankly, I don’t think Pelosi has the intelligence or political savvy to survive the coming storm.

Apparently her number two in the House doesn’t think so either.

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer said Tuesday that investgations into the Bush Administration’s use of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques should look at what congressional leaders, including Speaker Pelosi, knew about the use of the methods that have been criticized as torture. […]
“Frankly, information about what was said, when it was said, who said it, that ought to be on the record so the American public knows.”

Making Hoyer your number two is like hiring Tony Soprano to guard the bank.

That’s a nice Speakership you got there Ms. Pelosi; wouldn’t want anything to happen to it.

Well, here’s the rundown: Bella Pelosi backed Murtha over Hoyer. Hoyer is a good friend of Rahm “dead fish” Emmanuel, so he has ties to the top of the food chain. Hoyer wants to go ahead with the hearings, since Bella’s name is all over the attendance list provided by the CIA. That way, she will be toast and he can move into the Speaker’s job. She picked the wrong group to piss off, because they will shine the light on anyone that threatens them and with Emmanuel serving up the dirty tricks for Hoyer, it’s a 1-2 punch she won’t get up from.

We can only look forward to the screaming, pointing of fingers and denials. What did Nancy know, when did she know it and who else knows it? Levin, Durbin and Feinstein are already claiming the CIA is out to get the dems. I’m sure Leahy and Rockefeller will get on the band wagon shortly.
“Leaks” are wonderful if it’s a Republican President or member of Congress, but it’s “payback” if dems are on the receiving end of the release of information.
I find it ironic that Feinstein is the chairperson of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Maybe she thought that, by being on the committee, she’d acquire some intelligence.
