Community raises $20,000 for service dog for autistic kid; now no dog and no money

Morgan Olson of Deer Park, Wisconsin has a severely autistic son. She found a group, Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers. They told her that she could fund raise for the cost of the dog. That cost isn’t given in the article, but she eventually raised $20,000 from friends, family, and the community. SDWR sent a message that they were on the list for a dog. Since then it’s been silence, the money is God knows where, and Nolan Olson doesn’t have a dog to help him cope with his limitations.
There’s a very autistic child in my wife’s family, so I can sympathize fully with Morgan’s quote here;
“I thought this might be the one thing that will help us keep him from having to go into an institution at some point,” she said.
But there was at least this one red flag;
Olson [received] a letter from SDWR insisting the money be raised though an account the non-profit controlled.
It sounds like this isn’t the first time SDWR has done this. The victim group is large enough they have a Facebook group.
It’s a question other families that paid SDWR for service dogs are also asking. They now connect and support each other on a Facebook page.

Hate to say it, but for every legitimate charitable/nonprofit group out there, there is probably half a dozen scammer fraud gangs ripping off needy people and families. Folks just need to be super careful and cautious out there…

We have a society that too often rewards sociopaths for being gifting con artists pieces of shit. And does not enforce consequences often enough.
White collar crime and frauds usually don’t get prosecuted. Local police too often just treat it as a civil matter and expect the victim to sue in court for damages. Which often is too costly for the victims who are already out much of their funds due to the fraud.
FBI does not bother with a case of fraud unless the victims lose $100,000 or more. Usually $250,000 or more. There is just too much fraud and investigations require too many accountants with badges.
And too often white collar crime, even when prosecuted, is not penalized as harshly as other crimes.
This case, fortunately, is getting enough attention where this asshole might have drawn the law enforcement attention, expertise, and resources necessary.
Nice job posting about this. The more people who have its on this crap the more likely it will become a criminal matter rather than left for the civil courts.

Again thanks for drawing attention to this… I think it is wonderful you are working to bring justice to victims of fraud and I am glad your efforts make it more likely this will result in a criminal investigation of the fraudster rather than merely a civil lawsuit that the victim can scarcely afford to file. Keep up the good fight! When you get a chance maybe draw attention to the fact that Trump created a fraudulent “university” that scammed tens of thousands of victims out of tens of millions of dollars… and while it was proven in civil court that the entire scheme was a fraud intended to scam people out of their money, and the had to pay $25,000,000 in damages to his victims, and his “university” was legally forced to close… He never faced fraud charges, wire fraud charges, or any criminal charges despite the rampant white collar criminality inherent in his scam… Draw attention to that please…. Or the fact that he attempted to defraud veterans out of $2,000,000 dollars using it for his campaign and other expenses and was sued in civil court and forced to pay it back… But he never faced criminal charges for the attempt. This should prove interesting: this “business” or whatever it is has been sued appropriately before, back in 2018, for selling dogs/puppies that were not trained properly, were not well-behaved and in some instance, were sick.

Born the hell raiser that goes nuts over stories exposing frauds, I suggest we as a group go after these swindlers and put an end to this. A few years back we went after a Calif. grifter named Clark Schreiber (look him up on Search the Site, upper right hand top of this page) who attempted to scam $ for a veteran-help organization. We as a group persevered and with help of a particular cop who was a veteran, shut him down and forced him to repay money he had collected.
I know there are plenty on this site who would take part in shutting this dog breeding, money grabbing con artist organization down. First thing; go on Google, search for…Consumer Complaints Against Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers. That will be sufficient to motivate you to want to get involved. Fortunately, in this case we do not have to depend on journalists unwilling to expose such thieves for fear of retribution..maybe the lack of advertising revenue……who knows the reason and justification for not getting involved????
Reading the multitude of in depth complaints against this company will show you the District Attorney has been involved with this since 2018, but I can not find any effort having brought these fast talking swindlers (as well as their attorney) to an end. To shut this organization down is something the TAH group CAN and WILL do if we all work together. We have to force someone’s hand, and it appears we will have to START by going over the D. A’s. head from the git go.
Again, read the Schreiber story and realize we alone have the power to make this happen. We can begin tomorrow when all the contacts we need for closure are working, whether in person or from home. Had a “volunteer” at our rescue center who fostered one of our larger dogs for a few weeks. Found out she used our dog to solicit funds successfully. Fortunately another volunteer knew the dog and reported to us. Found out the lady had done this before and embezzled LOTS of money from other organizations. Our boys in Blue are on her tail and will treat her appropriately. Got the dog back!
