Midweek Open Thread

| November 14, 2018

Happy Humpday everyone, it’s the middle of the week again! Thanksgiving is next week!

Onto “DU news”, a plan to get President Trump “unhinged“:

Originally posted by Moostache:

His ego would start tearing him apart if people kept chanting “Trump’s a Chump” in a kind of rebuttal to “Lock Her Up”…he’d try to play it off, but the longer and more frequently flash mobs hit him with it, the more unhinged he’d become…

Yes, big crowds with phones ready to record these NPCs acting unhinged. In Georgia, cries you won’t hear from another set of NPCs if this would result in a Republican having a fighting chance:

Originally posted by babylonsister:

Voting rights advocates have won a string of victories in Georgia, and Republicans are now banned from certifying the election before Friday. Abrams needs to pick up roughly 20,000 votes to force a runoff because Democrats aren’t going to give up without a fight.

Dems are now complaining about how the demands to stop the recount in Florida would disenfranchise the thousands of absentee military votes. Wasn’t it the Democrat party that scrutinized these same votes when these votes helped the Republican? They probably don’t care about those military votes, just those votes that would give them the results that they want.

Meanwhile, a psychiatrist, who hasn’t evaluated President Trump in the proper setting like his medical team has, provides an “opinion” of the President:

Originally posted by Chauncey Devega of Salon:

Donald Trump is also a habitual liar who is at war with the truth and empirical reality. For Trump the world (and reality) must be bent to his will. His supporters love him because of all these traits and behaviors, not despite them. Their adoration for Trump is almost libidinal.

This isn’t the only NPC that claims that those who support President Trump are doing so due to “Cult of Personality”… And not because we actually agree with many of his policies.

Ocasio Cortez just might be a problem for the Democratic Party:

Originally posted by redstatebluegirl:

Now she is breaking with New York leaders on the Amazon headquarters. She is itching for a fight and will make us look like morons. This is a two year win people, we did not win the Senate, we did not win the White House. She could be a lightening rod for the right, someone needs to take her aside and tell her to temper herself. Of course Bernie won’t but someone in the Democratic Party should.

She, and Bernie, represent the where the Democratic Party is rapidly heading. Given that a healthy percentage of millennials have no issues with socialism, we could expect more like them being elected.

/yeah I’m old, what are you going to do about it?

Fjardeson

Nothing happens.

USMC Steve

If the likes of Ocasio Cortez makes ANYONE look like morons, they must of necessity already BE morons. This gal is so stupid that if breathing were not an autonomic function, she would die of oxygen starvation.

Commissioner Wretched

And yet, she got herself elected to Congress. The mind boggles …

2/17 Air Cav

She was elected for two reasons:

1) Her district is half Spanish/Latino/Puerto Rican/Whatever; and

2) Her district is half Spanish/Latino/Puerto Rican/Whatever.

IDC SARC

“she got herself elected to Congress.”

Yeah, but would you hit it?

Of course he would, she’s got the crazy eyes, and you know what they say about the crazies.

I’ll take a guess and say that one Commissar (the banned SJW/ fanboi of OWS) and Joe (the Boulder Bigot) love Ocasio Cortez and her mindless drivel, and would do just about anything to see her use her seat in Congress to reach for higher office.

Remember – they went “Balls Deep for Bernie”

rgr769

I reached the same conclusion re her breathing after hearing her explain her plan for “free tuition” and “free” universal healthcare as “well, we’ll just pay for it.”

Mason

“Cause it’ll be cheaper” was also part of her explanation. Government is a pro at driving down costs, don’t you know. 🙄

Please don’t post a picture of this old dried up witch without posting a spew alert first! I just lost my breakfast seeing that old whore so early in the morning! She should be the poster child for planned parenthood or for the plastic surgery assoc. When will they vote that old bitch out of office???

Ex-PH2

Do I detect a hint of dissension in the ranks of the democrats?

One can only hope that they’ve sown the seeds of their own dissolution.

26Limabeans

They let the rats in the house to gain votes and now the rats are voting them out. Sleep with dogs, wake up with fleas.

David

Any more, it looks like you can’t be a true Democrat unless you’ve announced you are running for President.

11B-Mailclerk

I think they mean it in the sense of “People’s Democratic…”

You know, kleptocratic genocidal dystopian family regime.

Ret_25X

What I love about the puritanical left (all leftists are puritans) is their inability to be objective about themselves or anyone else. It seems that they always imagine their own mental illnesses are the problems of all.

Which is, of course, why they become puritanical tyrants.

David

Dems have spit and shat on the military for 50 years… until they found out that Trump (like Biden) got 5 draft exemptions. Then former military service became a litmus test – for Republicans only.

Mason

They think Trump has a cult of personality? I’ve yet to see artistic posters of him placed all over like we did with his predecessor. I’d argue Obama was far and away more of a cult of personality!

So Ocasio-Cortez is against giving $1.5B in tax incentives to Amazon for them to open up shop in NYC? I thought she liked to give government money away?

HMCS(FMF) ret

I wonder how much the little SJW got from Amazon execs for her campaign?

Ex-PH2

Hey, that’s okay. Amazon opened a facility to the north of the state line. Maybe the incoming mare of Cheecahgah (whoever it will be) will be able to persuade Amazon to set up shop in Our Town. Plenty of building space and there’s a plot of empty land on the southwest side where they could put up an especially glamorous facility.

5th/77th FA

Just two questions. Don’t these people realize they are destroying our Country? Why do these people want to destroy our Country and themselves with it? Saddest part is we, here, know the answer to both questions.

11B-Mailclerk

They have to destroy the country to save it.

Standard Marxist operations: a place has to be a shithole before the folks will see Marxism as “better”. Since Marxism makes shitholes, half-measures make progress towards Marxism.

Neither the “true believers” nor the cynical opportunists care one whit about everyone else riding the dystopia pony on the way to the Radiant Future. It’s a feature, not a bug.

Ex-PH2

Well, they really aren’t destroying the country. It may seem like that, but it seems to be concentrated in a few areas, not spread like peanut butter on stale bread.

What they are really doing, with all that agitation, shouting, throwing things, acting like loons, is showing thoughtful people their true identities. And it’s a real turnoff.

Noise, destruction, damage, injuries to people – all in the name of – what -?

Would you want them as neighbors? Neither would I. There is such a thing as self-destruction, and they’re wading deep into it.

5th/77th FA

That’s exactly the problem thebesig. Enough of “them” are moving into areas and diluting the folks with some sense, and it’s working. The GA Guvanator race is a classic example. If you look at the state as a whole, it’s pretty red. You look at the counties that went for the blue, it’s a small section of the state, but it includes the major metro areas. They are taking over by legislation. 5 states in this country have the #s to swing any national election their way. If it were not for the electoral college, we would have been sunk years ago. Many of these SJW/socialist leaning people have never been to a real sh^#hole country, or dealt with an oppressive government. They haven’t been taught any true history in several decades and they believe whatever they’re told by left leaning professors and news media. I am concerned that what we are seeing today is just going to get worse.

5th/77th FA

Preach and testify! Very scary that the theology that killed 100 million plus people in the 20th Century is the very same concept that these people embrace. You may remember that Krushev said “We will bury you” and “We will over throw you without firing a shot” paraphrased, words to that effect. It is rapidly approaching, and as you stated, Trump winning in 2016 was the only thing that slowed it down. Have read PB’s book awhile back and it literally scared hell out of me, and I don’t scare easily. I have more concern for the future of my Grandchildren 13 & 9 yo. What will their world be like when they are our age 50 – 60 years from now?

Looks like those warnings of a hard winter may warrant some consideration–it’s snowing here in Arkansas right now and it’s still a day short of mid-November.

More global warming I guess…simultaneously causing fires in California and snow in the Cotton Belt.

Ex-PH2

Having a dormant, sleepy, snoring sun since about 2006 helps that develop. We already had our first snow on Thursday last week. Annoying.

Ex-PH2

What happened in 2006 was an enormous CME, a flare that was the biggest and brightest and fiercest explosion by the Sun on record. After that, the Sun went completely quiet. There have been (I think) three big EMPs/CMEs since then, and holes showing up in the Sun’s magnetic field.
The strangest part of the 2006 CME was that the Sun did not flip its magnetic poles to mark the end of the solar cycle, the way it usually does.
And also, the solar physicists suddenly realized that there were no sunspots. Period.
The few that have appeared since then have been smaller than usual, some as small as the Earth.

Twist

We had an unusually mild winter here last year. It only hit -30 for about a week last year. It’s weird when it’s warmer in Alaska in the winter than it is in a lot of the lower 48. We are projected to have a harsh winter this year, but it’s starting slowly. I’m not used to it being a balmy 10F in November.

Mason

Breitbart has a nice, dry-witted take on a global warmning protest this weekend.

Wow, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Wish I could say I’m surprised that such a sanctimonious asshat as him would beat a woman.

Something so very poetic about that little piece of justice aka Karma.

rgr769

Seeking help won’t cure the fact that he is a corrupt, slimy, crooked, unethical “lawer.” And that is my opinion regarding his character. I wouldn’t believe anything he said, even if he was standing on a stack of bibles holding a lightning rod in a thunderstorm.

AW1Ed

Didn’t say it never happens- it takes two, after all. Just asked if it ever worked.

5th/77th FA

Y’all remind me one day and I’ll give you my personal, this is no shit, tale of “domestic violence.” Women do lie, and charges can be trumped up.

Ex-PH2

The woman in this is not his estranged wife. It was some other woman.

And this caught my eye: We’re told her face was “swollen and bruised” with “red marks” on both cheeks.

So it will be her word against his… except that HER face was swollen and bruised, and it appears that he slapped her face… and she called the cops on him… and… well, he was awfully quick to play the “blame game”… and I’m sure there is much, much more to come.

He needs to be disbarred or something.

Mason

Once he’s disbarred he can take up flying recreational aircraft.

rgr769

We can only hope. But it should be light sport aircraft, as I doubt he has the smarts or determination to get a real private pilot’s license.

ex-OS2

….as I doubt he has the smarts or determination to get a real private pilot’s license.

Or read a fuel gauge.

Ex-PH2

No self-respecting small aircraft would give him the time of day.

LC

It’s still sort of midweek, so I’ll leave this here – 2 SEALs and 2 Marines have been charged in the death of SSG Logan Melgar. TAH mentioned this story in the past:

https://news.usni.org/2018/11/15/2-navy-seals-2-marines-charged-murder-green-beret

2/17 Air Cav

Thanks. I had been checking on that investigation every so often, wondering what the hell the problem was. The SEALs’ story stunk from day one and changed quickly.

“’If these allegations of misconduct are substantiated, they represent a violation of the trust and standards required of all service members,’” U.S. Special Operations Command spokesman Navy Capt. Jason Salata told USNI News….”

Yeah, murder tends to cut against the standards required of all service members.

rgr769

Murder of one’s brothers-in-arms in especially reprehensible, particularly when deployed as a warfighter.

5th/77th FA

Had wondered about this myself, since it had seemed to drop off the radar. Appears we will have to wait for the trial for “the rest of the story.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but back when, on a serious charge like this, the accused stayed in the stockade until the trial/UCMJ proceedings. Has that changed?

rgr769

I had one of the men in my company in Germany sit in the stockade for about nine months waiting for the German authorities to take him to trial on a stabbing death of a German bartender. He and two other men from my company were acquitted. Turned out he wasn’t the one of the four men who accosted the bartender and who stabbed him when refusing to leave the whites-only civilian bar/club. The guilty one was part of a nearby artillery unit but wasn’t flagged and he derosed back to the states. So he was never tried. But I received a derogatory comment in my OER by the battalion commander because I almost succeeded in getting the innocent soldier sprung from the stockade. It seems our Brigade Commander, Col. Frank Plummer, unbeknownst to me, wanted someone locked up for this “heinous crime against the German people.” Just as a footnote that LTC who said I had “poor judgement” later became the three star CG of Sixth Army. Also, when a congressional committee investigating race problems in Germany in 1970 said there was no justification for only that PFC and not the other three charged to be in pre-trial confinement, the Col. and LTC exercised their “good judgment” to get him out of the stockade.

5th/77th FA

Thanks for the add on rgr. Seems like I remember some of that tale. I was in FRG 71 – 73 and we had some in the stockade in Mannheim (?) IIRC. We had a hold on a DEROS and an ETS until disposition of the cases. Most of those were for cases involving UCMJ, but there was some that involved the civilian authority. I saw up close an personal how the EER could adversely affect EM, it was even worse when s semi senior Officer shat upon another Officer with the OER. And usually, as in your case, it was to make the senior officer look good at the expense of their subordinate. When I made mention to the Battery Commander once on that subject, he wiggled a bit and just said, “sometimes the bear gets you.” I thought it odd in the link for this story that none of the accused were in “pretrial confinement.”

rgr769

That incident in Germany and several others of blatant dishonesty and lack of professionalism is part of the reason I resigned my RA commission after 6 years of AD.

While not on the same scale of murder, another recent tale of highly-trained men behaving badly is the guy from 7th Group that tried to bring 90 lbs of cocaine in from Colombia:

2/17 Air Cav

Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was being an entertainer, and all that that entails, and remaining married to the same woman from 1957 until the day he died.

5th/77th FA

was honored to meet him on several occasions working fan fair shows. Not only one hell of an accomplished musician, but a true gentleman of the old school and a very down to earth individual. And yes, he was still very much in love with his wife, in spite of, or because of all the temptations that were thrown at him.
God Speed and Farewell Roy. You will be missed. The true Country Artists got pushed to the side over the last 10 – 20 years in favor of the new wave pop hip hop rap country. This was done by the industry, not the fans.

Sure enough the Democrat was declared the winner in the second round of voting.
The Republican won on election day but with ranked choice the Democrat wins a week later.

As Maine goes……

https://bangordailynews.com/2018/11/15/politics/golden-defeats-poliquin-in-contested-2nd-district-ranked-choice-count/

One person one vote is no longer the law.

5th/77th FA

Daaaaaaayyyuum! Brother 26Lb I read and reread that thing 3 times and all I came away with was a headache, a dahell, and a daphuque is this all about. No wonder I can hear your eyes roll all the way down in the Southland. If that is supposed to be a better way to elect some one, then the previous way must have been really FUBAR. Has some body gone by to straighten up Sam Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere’s ect al headstones? With all of the spinning they are doing, those stones have got to be caddy whompus. We down in Georgia are still waiting to see how many more lost, dead, provisional, or made up ballots Abrams can find. Even got a lawsuit on going down in the far southwest corner instigated by her sister, the judge. This is getting stupider and stupider every election. I guess eventually, the whole country will be over run with elections like this. Sad ain’t it?

LC

It sounds like the people of Maine wanted this kind of voting – and, frankly, I like it a lot better than the standard first-past-the-post style. With ranked voting, if you hate both the Democrats and the Republicans, you can put your first preference for someone else. Once they’re mathematically eliminated, your next still-in-the-running choice is used. This continues until, ultimately, your vote is counted or there aren’t any candidates you selected left.

It’s the best way to show support for more than the two-party system.

26Limabeans

The system was voted in by referendum two years ago. The first district (large cities) made it pass while the 2nd district (election at hand) and comprised of small towns overwhelmingly rejected it.
It was shoved down our throat and that is why referendum is a liberals dream. Why bother with a legislative branch at all?
This is a Republic not a simple democracy. One person one vote. Ranked choice violates that principle.

LC

I must’ve missed the rule where a Republic can’t have ranked voting.

Look, abstract this away from the reality of the Maine race – imagine, for a moment, you’re on a hiring board with 10 other people to select a new CEO. Five people really like candidate A and hated B, four people really like candidate B and hated A, and two people really like candidate C,.. but you know, they’d be pretty happy with B, too. They don’t think B is best for the job, but do think he’s a better option than ‘A’.

Who should win in this scenario? ‘A’ was liked by less than half of the people, whereas B was liked by more than half. It’s just that two of B’s supporters thought C was even better. It’s still one person getting one vote, they’re just getting to rank their preference for that vote.

It’s also fair to point out that the Maine results might’ve elected the Democrat directly had people not had the option of voting against him as their top choice, but for him as their second. Forced to make that choice, people might’ve just said, “Well, this sucks, but I can’t take the chance..”.

That’s why ranked voting is, in my opinion, better for the voter. It lets them express their wishes more clearly. Want to send a message? Vote for Darth Vader, then Satan, then pick an actual candidate. Your vote still counts, but the first-round results would sure be interesting!

26Limabeans

“Want to send a message? Vote for Darth Vader, then Satan, then pick an actual candidate. Your vote still counts, but the first-round results would sure be interesting!”

So you would rather play games and send a juvenile message to show your disdain instead of choosing a candidate in a straighht up election?

Mason

A write in vote for “Frankenstein” was counted as a vote in favor of Al Franken during his recount election thievery.

LC

It was just an example. Want a different one? In a Republican-heavy area, a Tea Party candidate and a traditional GOP candidate are both running against a Democrat. The two conservatives will split the vote without rank-voting, and the Democrat could win the election with (in theory) just over 33% of the vote. But if voters in the area can rank their choices, this doesn’t happen – whichever of the lower two conservatives is eliminated first, the ballots of those who voted for them switch to their next-ranked option, the other conservative. That person wins the election.

Again, it gives more freedom to the electorate and generally speaking is more representative of what the people in an area want on the whole.

It isn’t a party thing for me; I like more freedom in how I say who I want to represent me. I fail to see how that’s a bad thing.

26Limabeans

“The two conservatives will split the vote without rank-voting, and the Democrat could win the election with (in theory) just over 33% of the vote”

Swap the parties and that is exactly what happened in Maine. LePage won two terms that way and he was the best guvnah evah!
The Dems hated it and referendumed Ranked Choice so that can no longer happen. And it worked!
If the Dems can’t win they change the rules, move the goal post, keep counting votes etc.

26Limabeans

“ultimately, your vote is counted”

No, your vote is counted each time.
How would the previous outcome be reached if it did not? You vote more than once. Get it?

5th/77th FA

26Lb, basically we’re being overwhelmed in the rural areas by the massive influx of warm fuzzy it hasn’t been tried our way in this country metro crowd. LC needs to go up the thread to the conversation thebesig and I had. People forget, we are a Republic. We, the USA has done more for the entire world, economy, standards of living, and promotion of freedom than every one else combined in the history of the world. We DO NOT want to become a shit hole country, yet it is being forced down our throats. May be if the draft had not of been done away with, and more snowflakes had to have had at least a small exposure to some of these places, then they would understand. We used to have a saying, Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining. It is even more relevant today.

LC

Ranked voting doesn’t inherently favor a particular party. It also doesn’t violate any principles of the Republic. You simply have more freedom -we’re still about that, right?- with your vote. You can encourage third parties, send a message, and yet still bite the bullet and resign yourself to the fact that one of two assholes, with either an R or a D after their name, is going to win. At least for now.

26Limabeans

I get it. You hate the two party system. No amount of common sense is going to change that.

LC

See above – it’s not even about that. It’s about giving voters more choice in who represents them. The fact that I dislike the two party system is irrelevant to the overall benefits.

26Limabeans

“We DO NOT want to become a shit hole country”

Our large cities are already third world shitholes. Look at San Fran, Baltimore, and my home town Boston. Huge populations of non English speaking people forming their own enclaves with their own laws. And the Democrats love it. They have the votes to destroy the country, they just need to “adjust” the election laws to finish the job.
Ranked choice is just one of the tools.

5th/77th FA

BAM!! ^word^ Is it me or does LC seem to be related to our old friend from that Univercity out west? Asking for a friend.

26Limabeans

Nah. LC occasionally makes good points. Not a stark raving mad lunatic like the guy from out west.

LC

All I want is the ability to better indicate who I’d like to represent me in elections. Is that somehow bad? If so, why?

26Limabeans

You can write in anyone you like.
That’s good.
With Ranked Choice you can write in multiple people.
Thats bad, because you voted more than once.

Shades of Kavanaugh/Ford:

(Posted in today’s Friday’s “Feel Good Story”): A 21 year old man from Texas was arrested and denied enlistment into the US Army based on serious allegations his Ex- Girlfriend told LEO about physical abuse and break in/robbery at her home by him. A selfie of he and his family taken the day of the “so called attack” at a hotel 70 miles from her home proved HE was innocent.

Holy good night. Here’s a guy who is 70 miles away with family when the fabricated event occurred. He is arrested on a bald complaint lodged by a crazy woman, his family has to raise $150,000 in bond, and the Army won’t take him b/c of the false charge. What’s more, he has to hire an attorney, have his name dragged through the mud, and be treated as a guilty suspect by police. That’s frightening as hell. I hope that chick has money and, if not, that she’s employed so she will have decades to see “garnishment” on her pay voucher.

2/17 Air Cav

I don’t know but, if so, I’m sure the waivers did not apply to politically incorrect charges. DV is a politically incorrect charge. Flag burning is okay. Drugs of a certain type and amt are okay. Fag taunting is not okay.
