Senator Ladda Tammy Duckworth (D- IL)
Tammy Duckworth is an American politician and former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who has served as the junior United States Senator for Illinois since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she represented Illinois’s 8th district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017. Before election to office, she served as Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (2009–11) and Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (2006–09). Duckworth was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016.
A combat veteran of the Iraq War, Duckworth served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and suffered severe combat wounds, which caused her to lose both of her legs and some mobility in her right arm. She was the first female double amputee from the war. Despite her grievous injuries, she sought and obtained a medical waiver that allowed her to continue serving as a lieutenant colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard along with her husband, Major Bryan W. Bowlsbey, a signal officer and fellow Iraq War veteran. Both have since retired from the armed forces.

US Sen. Duckworth to interview soon for VP pick, Durbin says

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth is going to interview soon for the post of former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate, her fellow Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Friday.
Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, has said he will select a woman as his running mate and announced a vice presidential search committee late last month.
In recent days, speculation about Duckworth as a possibility has steadily increased as the senator has been more visible on television in recent weeks and participated in virtual events for the Biden campaign.
Asked Friday morning in Chicago about whether he thought Duckworth was a realistic possibility as Biden’s VP pick, Durbin indicated she was under consideration.
“I support Tammy Duckworth. She’s spectacular, a great colleague and I hope that she fares well in this interview, which I think is going to take place soon,” Durbin said outside Stroger Hospital after he visited a COVID-19 testing facility. “And I’m totally in support of her.”
Durbin did not elaborate on the nature of the interview.
A Biden official said the campaign would run a “vigorous vetting process,” but declined to provide any additional details.
A Duckworth spokesman did not respond to questions about whether the senator from suburban Hoffman Estates had an interview scheduled or whether she had submitted vetting materials to the campaign.
In a recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Duckworth was asked whether she had received vetting materials or questions from Biden’s campaign. She sidestepped the question.
“I want Joe Biden in the White House, and I trust that he’s got a process for putting together the right team to help him do that from the vice president on down to the cabinet members,” Duckworth said. “I personally have always answered the call when my country has asked me to serve.”

Interestingly, the Associated Press – seemingly apropos of nothing – sent out a directive to contributors that the term ‘mistress’ would no longer be used as it is an “archaic and sexist term”. Instead, the words ‘companion’ or ‘lover’ should be used.
The fact that one of the leading candidates for Biden’s VP job got her start in politics as a mis-…I mean, ‘companion’ or ‘lover’ had nothing to do with it, I’m sure.

Don’t care if I get flamed. I will respect Duckworth for having raised her hand, nothing more.. No one, not a single person who served with her has stood for her in her political career. She was absolutely hated by her unit. She blamed those that saved her from that crash site for exacerbating her injuries. What she says in public, for the cameras, and everything she does and says behind closed doors are two very different things. Yes, she suffered horribly and I can’t imagine the pain and fear she experienced while fighting back from her injuries. I don’t wish that on anyone and I don’t discount what she went through. I do have a hard time feeling empathy for someone who names, yes names, the people who it should have happened to. On the one hand, that’s understandable when you’re going through it but to continue that line of thinking-vocally-long after? Like, when you’re the Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs? While in that position, she did absolutely nothing for veterans. While in that position, she took raises, bonuses and kudos for cutting services-costs-that negatively impacted thousands of Illinois veterans. Anyone who did anything good that she couldn’t take credit for got moved, demoted, stripped, canned. While speaking at a National Cemetery on Memorial Day, said we have to remember all our heroes, everyone who ever served, teachers, doctors, nurses, community organizers… yes, she said that. I was there. She declined attendance at the Gold Star Mothers Day lunch, as IDVA Director and as a Senator even though those events took place in her district and less than 20 miles from her home. She declined to attend the Gold Star Christmas tree lighting ceremony…in the lobby of the building where her office was…while she was in her office…but then came down when she realized the media was there. She literally ignored the Gold Star families present, went directly to the cameras and said how touched and honored she was to be present for this moving remembrance of The Fallen, then was immediately whisked off.
