COVID-19 Delays Movie
Tom Cruise, “Sorry, Mick!”
The Need for Speed will just have to wait a bit longer. Top Gun: Maverick is officially delayed from its original June release date. It’s been more than three decades since the 1986 film premiered, and some of us could have waited another three. So, sorry Mick. It’ll have to be arcade rides and that worn VHS tape until the new release.
Tom Cruise confirms ‘Top Gun’ sequel release delayed 6 months due to COVID-19

Studio heads at Paramount Pictures are feeling the need, the need for social distancing.
On Thursday, actor Tom Cruise confirmed dreaded expectations when he tweeted that “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to the 1986 naval aviation big screen staple, would be pushed back six months from its previously scheduled release date of June 24, 2020.
“I know many of you have waited 34 years,” Cruise tweeted Thursday. “Unfortunately, it will be a little longer. Top Gun: Maverick will fly this December. Stay safe, everyone.”
If audience anticipation for “Top Gun: Maverick” wasn’t already redlining following the release of the film’s trailers, an even longer wait — coupled a recent interview with Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer in an upcoming May issue of Empire Magazine— should certainly do the trick.
Details revealed in the Empire interview include director Joseph Kosinski’s (“Oblivion,” “Only the Brave”) decision to put IMAX cameras in the cockpit of an F/A-18 Super Hornet to showcase CGI-free in-flight sequences that feature actors physically in the aircraft bolting through frames of stunning terrain and low altitude.
Trained pilots, of course, were at the helm (off-camera).
Just six more months of Izod-polo-shirts-under-flightsuits and renditions of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” at the O-club bar. Mick. Sorry buddy. I know this is difficult for you.
*grin*

Just had to do it didn’t ya? Go ahead on and poke that bear. I’ll just bet that poor ol’ Mick didn’t have but one nerve left and now you done gone and got on it. Hell, the only thing keeping him on his Social Distancing Thing was the anticipation that in just a few short weeks we were all three going to be at the IMAX with a triple sized bucket of popcorn, a large belly washer, and a box of ju ju beans. You beat all you know that, doncha? I’m not really sure what is gonna be harder to survive, Mick having to wait until December to see his all time favorite/anticipated sequel or you, the beat down he’s gonna wanna administer for you bringing this subject up.
Maybe I can use one of my Hollywierd connections to get us a private pre-screening?
KoB and AW1Ed:
I hate both of you.
More time for Tom to keep suckin’ that dick.
I don’t see the problem.
Word
Or worshiping flying saucers!
I’m guessing Mick’s absolutely heartbroken to hear this.
Or maybe not. (smile)
Not heartbroken. Not at all. They should shit-can this movie, and its predecessor, too.
You have no idea how much I despise these films and how Hollyweird falsely portrays Naval Aviators. It’s ridiculous.
Anyone who actually tried to behave like “Maverick” in a no-shit tactical fleet squadron would be out on his ass before he knew what hit him.
haven’t you noticed the Hollyweird perspective on the military?
Hollywood: military are mavericks who break the rules to get things done
Also Hollywood: military are mindless drones who can only follow orders…
I couldn’t care less myself, Tom Snooze is one Actor I don’t care about seeing, and wasn’t “Top Gun” pretty much Naval Aviation’s “The Hurt Locker”?
That’s the reason Mick and I hate the movie so much. It’s so bad I consider it a comedy.
the only reason to watch the original was to see actual F-14s fly…
the opening sequence was awesome…everything after that was pap…
Well, the finger from the cockpit scene was pretty good too IMO. And best I can tell, it’s seemingly based – loosely – on an actual incident from the USAF’s SR-71 operations.
The quote at the link is from Ben Rich’s book Skunk Works. Rich was with that organization from the mid-1950s (U-2 inlet design) until he retired from Lockheed in the late 1980s or early 1990s. His last assignment there was as its director (he took over from Kelly Johnson when Johnson retired); he oversaw the development of the F-117A.
Given the close nature of cooperation between the Skunk Works and the CIA/USAF during the U2/SR71/F117A programs – including post-deployment logistical support – I’m fairly certain that Rich would have heard accounts from missions most people wouldn’t. The book also identifies the USAF pilot who contributed the story.
Was Mav supposed to be QMPd years ago?
I say go ahead and release it. How many fewer ticket sales could it mean? 10 or 100? Who gives a shit, send that queer bait junk straight to DVD. I wouldn’t go see it if the tickets were free. Why? because I don’t want to see the gay couples coming in, snuggling up, holding hands (and other things in the dark) and kissing in the tender moments. Moments like when Cruise hugs a buddy in the locker room after showers. IICK!!!!
What another few months to see a story about some short lumpy 30+ years of service admiral flying a desk and folding paper airplanes and telling there I was stories and chasing female Lt. Commanders around the office and O club with promises of promotion if only they play with his flaccid yoke..no thanks the 1st round was enough bullshit
Who the hell is “Mick?”
Regular on TAH & Marine ‘wings of gold’ aviator type I believe.
I’m Mick.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Shack!
… gah ….
Hollywood is takin it up the ass over Crona.
Far from the only one. Whole lotta folks coast to coast getting bent over like Bobby Trippe.
Paging LeBron…
Tom and the team are probably trying to figure out how to “work in” another volleyball game into the new flick… cause they work as hard as Soldiers/Sailors/Airmen/Marines that deploy to warzones.
I can’t wait for the next Vietnam thriller….
I am proud to post that I have never watched a Tom C motion picture. NOT. A. SINGLE. ONE! And have absolutely no plans to ever watch one! Asinine, self centered, egotistical, sawed off little twerp.
Oh, he’s an utter loon, to say the least. But I actually think he’s a fine actor, and has done some movies well worth watching. If you ever watch sci-fi, “Edge of Tomorrow” is a fantastic flick.
Plus you get Emily Blunt, too.
I just can’t accept Cruise in any of his “world’s deadliest midget” roles. Generally can’t stand him at all. But I laughed my Black Irish ass off at Les Grossman!
He can do some roles well. IMO he and Paul Newman both nailed their characters in “The Color of Money.”
Still can’t believe Tom Cruise fictional Navy career outlasted the Tomcat. 36+ years of service while the F-14 only made it 32. Hollywood, sadly, doesn’t have a high year tenure rule.
Is it me, or would it be great publicity to put it on Netflix ,etc where the quarantined masses could watch it?
I wouldn’t pay to see this BS anyway.
Maybe I’ve had too much of the quarantine Elixir !😎
Still trying to figure out why the Shore Patrol didn’t bust his ass (figuratively, not literally) for riding a scooter on base with the requisite helmet and reflective vest (which was mandatory back in the day), let alone exceeding the posted speed limit. Those JAG’s that put in charge of base traffic court are real ballbusters (speaking from experience).
That should read “without the requisite helmet and reflective vest…”
Hack Stone Publishing regrets the error, but Hack Stone has a lot of regrets, such as sending his girlfriend out in a blinding snowstorm that fateful night in North Philadelphia where she ended up being shot in the face by a team of incompetent crackhead assassins.
This is some of the funniest stuff O have seen in a long time….
How Top Gun was Jacked the Fuck Up!

Makes no dif to me if it is released this afternoon or 6 months from now at midnight on a Thursday. They can throw it in the circular file or send it out for free. I just don’t care.
Had the unfortunate experience of interacting with this fool in a professional setting where there was no excuse for his acting like a complete ass. It would have been much easier had he simply acted like a human being. How hard would that have been – for an actor? My conclusion was that he wasn’t a very good actor, and a very sub-par human.
Oh, well. I did see most of the original from a hospital bed during a blood transfer factor thing. As a captive audience. The guy who wanted to see it finally left, so the nurse unplugged for me. She was grateful.
You know, NONE of these silly Navy movies would have been made if the Navy hadn’t helped.
Tom’s gonna do what actors do but the Navy is the one that’s responsible for making themselves look like clowns.
There’s a reason that there are 10 movies/tv series made about the Navy and Marines for every one made about the Army. The Navy substantially underwrite them as recruiting tools.
As is often the case, the Simpsons got it right:
