Florida victim fights back against intruder, who then had to be hospitalized, police say

A Florida man who was attacked by an intruder on Saturday fought back, and now the suspect is in police custody, authorities said.

On Saturday around 10:20 p.m., Barry Sands was asleep at home in Miami when he woke up to what sounded like a “hysterical female banging on the front door of the residence, asking for help,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Sands opened the front door and was allegedly attacked by a man identified by police as Mark Katsnelson, 35, court records said.

Katsnelson forced his way into the home as he was striking Sands with his hands, the complaint said, adding that Sands had a cut on his lip and toe as a result of the alleged attack.

Sands punched Katsnelson several times in the face in what seemed to be a case of self-defense, police said. He then called 911.

Katsnelson suffered facial injuries and was transported to medical facilities in Florida for treatment.

Doesn’t happen often, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, but all my sources are dry today. So zero DRT, inconvenienced and/or in the wind, at least of the two legged variety. I was able to scratch up a post about dangerous critters as a consolation, however. I can only assume all the criminals are taking time off in preparation for Black Friday.

Firearms Provide Armed Citizens with Protection against Dangerous Wild Animals
by Zita Ballinger Fletcher

Firearms can often save lives in situations when people find themselves faced with aggressive wild animals such as bears, mountain lions and bobcats.

Anti-gun politicians from metropolitan areas may not be conscious of such dangers faced by law-abiding gun owners in rural regions. Proposed gun-control laws could potentially impact citizens’ abilities to protect people and domestic animals from creatures of greater strength in dangerous encounters.

Sometimes wild animals aggressively encroach on properties. In many cases, these are natural predators hunting for food; in some cases, the animals show no fear of humans and cannot be driven away. A person caught in such a situation would be at a major disadvantage without a firearm, and possibly rendered defenseless against a stronger creature raiding property or attacking pets and livestock.

The right of the people to keep and bear…arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country… — James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434, June 8, 1789.

All kinds of God’s Critters right outside the wire of Firebase Magnolia. They ain’t skeered of nothing. Pisses off my furbabies when the critters amble at the mosey just a little bit the other side and the doggies can’t get to ’em.

We had a lady killed by feral hogs this past week in SE Texas.

Rare, but not unknown. Stirred up quite the discussion on a blog for a hiking group I’m a member of.
