Maggie DeSanti – Phony Army Nurse Still At It

| October 21, 2019

One of our ninjas highlighted these recent stories.

You may recall a 2014 TAH posting about Maggie DeSanti here.

Well, she’s back at it and in the news over the past couple of days.

“When she was an Army nurse during the Vietnam War, DeSanti rappelled from helicopters to treat wounded soldiers.”

Once again, the media – in search of a feel-good story – will publish anything without verification.ย  In this case, we had DeSanti’s fakery on This Ain’t Hell for anyone to look up.
At least she didn’t advance in rank over the last 5 years.

    And don’t forget:

Ole Margaret ALSO claimed to be a Police Traffic Control Officer for 11 years on Long Island, New York’s 5th precinct Patchogue.

She also claims having a Soldiers Medal.

AND claims she is a lifetime member of the VFW and the AMVETS.

Lifetime Member of the VFW? Seriously?

Claw is gonna love this. INCOMING!

    • AverageNCO says:

She is definitely a member of American Legion Post 27 Apache, AZ. They seem to be circling the wagons around her.

    • Ninja – Possibly someone could check about any of her past employment as a Traffic Control Officer (crossing guard) or anyother job with New York’s 5th Precinct Patchogue. Where did she claim to be a Firefighter?

      • ninja says:

        Hi, Carolyn:

Thank You for spreading the word.

I suspect the 5th Precinct most likely may not retain any records of her if they are over 10-20 years old. She may have been a school crossing guard and no telling how long she lasted doing that. Only Ole Maggie can tell us the rest of the story.

The link provided stated that she claimed to be one of the first Female NY Firefighters, which has already been disproven on this Post by others.

It seems that she either lies or embellishes about events in her life, mixing truth with fiction. She is indeed a female version of Walter Mitty.

    • November Bravo says:

I met Maggie 2010. She was a member of the American Legion Post in Gilbert. I met her playing poker at the club. She started sharing that she had cancer and was very ill. Several of us pitched in and helped her out. I would stay with her after she said she had a stroke. Some of the guys build a ramp on her trailer in Mesa so she could have better access to her home.

I am a nurse. You can verify with AZ Department of Nursing. I began to suspect there was a ruse and I think Maggie knew I was catching on to her scheme. Our relationship/friendship ended.

In the midst of helping her out, one of my friends found three birth certificates with different DOB. I also think it was noted she was getting two social security payments every month.

She appears to have lived a life of deception. She managed to elicit sympathy from our peer group and tried to make me look less than favorable. I decided to let people make their own judgments and went on about my life.

    Almost 400 Comments!

    Keep em coming!

Also, please spread the word on Facebook that Ole Margaret never had a Nursing License nor a Silver Star nor a Soldiers Medal, etc. etc.

If after all of this and her Enablers STILL believe her, then they were indeed brainwashed by her or don’t want to admit that happened to them.

    • Friend says:

Never had a nursing licence? Share so we can everywhere…

      • ninja says:

        Hi, Friend,

If you lost within this post/thread, you will see several comments about her not having a Nursing License based on research on a Nationwide Nursing Licensee Verification Website.

Thank You so much for passing the word.

          “look”, not “lost”.

          • 5th/77th FA says:

If Maggoty Maggie appears to be lost, I can tell her where she can go.

She for sure has lost any morals she had.

Of all the things she has lost in this lifetime, I’m sure she misses her mind most of all.

Has everyone else lost any and all respect that they may have had for her?

She prolly didn’t lose her virginity; she gave it away…several times.

            • SFC D says:

I never had any respect for her, but my level of respect for any veteran’s organization that allowed this phony old broad to join without verification, who later defended and continue to defend her lies, is settling very close to the ZERO point. Valor thieves and scam artists cannot exist in a vacuum, it takes many people who believe in the phony and their lies, either through ignorance, failure to verify outlandish claims, or a willful decision to excuse bad or illegal behavior. I’m pointing at the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Honor Flight Arizona, and the entire news media that refuses to see the truth when they are slapped across the face with it. Feel free to pile on with any organizations I may have missed. This lying old broad seriously chaps my ass.

              D out.

Do we have any verification that Maggie DeSanti is actually a Post Member of either the local VFW, American Legion, or AMVETS?

If she is (only) a bar/canteen social member,
that’s a bit different, NOT the same as an eligible Post Member,
although some may confuse the two.

If she is a Post Member of ANY of these organizations,
yes, someone has more explaining to do, for allowing a fraudulent membership of an ineligible Post Member in a veterans organization.

                • marinedad61 says:

Note – It pisses me off that she collected a hand made quilt at an awards ceremony from the local VFW Auxiliary.
Quilts require time, $$, and labor.
                  Stolen Valor Quilt.
                  That’s low.

            • ChipNASA says:

Well now, we’ll have to let EX-PH2 and others make the call on this one.

As I’ve said a few times before, I almost pulled the trigger on it on some of the other chromosomal persuasion, however, it was pointed out that it may constitute somewhat of a misogynistic atmosphere, were I to do so, so we have refrained doing that so far.

Not that I feel that Old Mag Bags here isn’t worthy, but, yeah, I can see the admin folks point.

              • 5th/77th FA says:

Far be it for me to discuss admin policy on a possible violation of the proposed 27th Amendment to the Constitution of these United States. I had forgotten that technically, legally, girlfolks were not equal to menfolks in the eyes of the law. That being stated as the obvious, then I can understand how girlfolks can’t be equally insulted like menfolk. Does this mean we must come up with a separate but equal HoI? Would the current HoI need to be modified to represent the girlfolk gland? How about to make all the other 98 genders happy, we make the HoI Gender neutral? Would that work?

Barring all of that can we throw out the abbreviated HoI in the form of the Alphabet Assault AND The Toilet Bowl of Taunts?

                • Hack Stone says:

Things could get real confusing when dealing with transgendered valor thieves. What was the name of that morbidly obese Tranny claiming to be a Navy SEAL? Would that individual be worthy of the male or female version of HoI? What about the Pirate Lesbian? When the dust settles on these questions, Chip is going to need a bigger Hall.

              • Ex-PH2 says:

I would 2nd the T of T, simply because my view of Scaggie Maggie is that s/he/it may be getting some unpleasant attention in the future.

Ergo, the H of I would be a waste of talent if/when used on that corner of this Cesspit Occupant.

In addition, if she is taken to task legally for committing fraud per the 2013 SV Act, a clean page is more appropriate than a fully-papered H of I.

Just my view. Others may not feel the same.

    ************* ALERT *************

For those of you that have inquired, Mr. Jerry Dale Walker’s official military records have been ordered and were received several days ago. The appropriate people have them in their possession. To date, we have not found anything inconsistant with his military claims and what is supported in his official military records. As such, there is no need to post at this time.

This is an issue separate and distinct from his claim of knowing Maggie DeSanti and can vouche for her military service. It is unclear as to if he is claiming he SERVED with her or whether he KNEW her back when she was claiming she was Captain and they both were in a civilian capacity. We would most certainly like for Mr. Walker to clarify his statements and offer dates/units/timeframe that convinces him that Ms. DeSanti served in the United States Armed Forces. There are no substantiating military records available that supports such a claim.

    ************* ALERT *************

Nope, I sent an e mail to the station when this FIRST broke on TAH. Sent one to the reporter too. Copy/pasted the VG/TAH linky in both and Baby Sister put a post on their fakebook page. That post was removed shortly after it was FIRST posted. Imma gonna try to go thru my sent stuff & see if I can find it. I think Carolyn and md61 sent them something too?

I have had a buncha dealings with reporters, print and broadcast, over the last 45 years and for the last 20, especially, they have gotten worse and worse about misquotes, bending what you say, and/or refusing to run corrections or retractions. Damn shame that some of us were raised to take responsibility for what we did and own up to our mistakes. Guess them days will die with the last of us.

I really, really got to learn that whole copy/paste/save/screen shot thing.

Hey…. Male or female, young or old,
      phonies are phonies, and
there was a seriously intentional effort by Maggie DeSanti
to buy/acquire ribbons, medals, rank, wings, and more,
and get it all fixed up to look (half assed) legit,
      and then parade herself publicly,

    • rgr769 says:

She can gaggle up with Baloney Bob and Brownstain Brown. They can form the Western Region Chapter of the DRG. We have had so many fakers over the past ten years that they could form their own fake veterans org. All the phonies in VFW the AL could join.

        * There must be a discrepency in the medals. EXAMPLE: GWOT Expeditionary medal and a Byrd Antarctic Expedition Medal for 1928-1930.

        * You must have a forged DD-214 or critical areas blurred out. A viable, undoctored DD-214 will not be acceptable.

        * You must have a lone survivor story. There cannot be any witnesses to validate the story.

        * You must have a service animal with appropriate counterfiet documentation.

    • 26Limabeans says:

She could hook up with Alaska Bob there and

I’m not a nurse like Maggie, but to this layman she appears to be suffering from fecal impaction of the colon. I imagine a warm bowl of Elko chili would provide a wonderfully refreshing cleanse for Mags.

  10. ninja says:

Well, ninja thinks that Ole Margaret may not be telling the truth about something else.

    Her Age.

Research indicates that Ole Margaret was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1937, NOT 1935.

Her birth name was Margaret Macalino.

Her father was born in Manilla, Philippines.

1940 Census (Brooklyn, New York) of her and her Family listed the Family as “Filipino”.

Ole Margaret told a story that she had Three Brothers who served in the US Military.

That story is true. Her Brothers are listed on the 1940 Census with her.

This ninja suspects that a 1935 Birth Certificate listed under Brooklyn New York Birth Records for a “Female” Macalino is for a female Stillborn.

That “Female” born in 1935 is not listed in the 1940 Census.

However, Ole Margaret is listed by name as Margaret Macalino in the 1937 New York Birth records and again, in the 1940 Census, as being 3 years old.

Ole Margaret married Samuel F. De Santi in 1954 in Brooklyn, New York.

She was 16 years old, not quite 17 years old.

This ninja has a theory. It could be possible that she used the Birth Certificate belonging to the 1935 Female Stillborn to get married, fudging her age to be 18, close to 19 to marry Sam.

In New York, the minimum legal age to wed is 18. Anyone younger has to have parental consent.

Which means that if this theory is true, then Ole Margaret has been living and rocking with a lie for years. Unless her Parents told her that she was born in 1935 and hid the 1937 Birth Certificate from her.

All of this is PUBLIC INFORMATION. Information has been backed up by public records and old newspaper articles.

According to Don Shipley’s new video, a story is set to air on Monday on Inside Edition about Maggie and her valor thieving ways. He did the math for them about her age, how she could not have been called up in 2001, the Silver Star, the whole shebang.

The other thing, am now wondering that since there is a possibilty that she may have fudged her TRUE age, that she might have collected SSN early?

How embarrassing and sad for Honor Flight, since Folks DONATED money for REAL Vets to take the flight to DC.

Ole Margaret needs to reimburse Honor Flight for her FREE Airline Ticket, FREE Hotel Accommaations, FREE Bus Rides and FREE food.

    • Chase – On 22 Oct I spoke with a female Major at Hq USAREC about the video posted on Facebook, ‘Army Recruiting Ohio’. Yesterday I had a conversation with Gayle Moore at DOD Public Affairs. The video has been removed!

      • ninja says:

You had better luck than I did.

This Video was posted by the Columbus, Ohio Recruiting Battalion 4 Years ago.

The Elderly guy in the Video, Lowell Guy Freeman, conned them. He also conned the Cripple Creek Event at Canon City, Colorado 6 years ago by telling them he was a DSC Recipient and one of the original US Army RANGERS.

For almost 50 years, Freeman told folks the story that he was nominated for the Medal of Honor during WWII. He told folks he was a Member of the Darby RANGERs. He told folks he was a MSG in the US Army.

When the MOH did not pan out based on the US Army writing him letters stating that there was no proof or indication that he had ever been nominated for the MOH, he changed his story and told everyone he was a Distinguished Service Cross Recipient.

His FOIA from NRPC is very interesting. Turns out he was with 5th Army in Italy during WWII, but was constantly “shirking responsibilty”,i.e. constantly going on Sick-Call. All of claims in the video are bogus. He was finally admitted to a Field Psych Unit in Naples, Italy during WWII and sent home with a Psych analysis.

He was never an E8, never a RANGER, never was nominated for a MOH, never received the DSC.

The Columus Recruiting Battalion was notified that they were conned. The FOIA was sent to them. To this day, there have been no acknowledgement that they fell for a Con Man. The Video is still up.

Lowell Guy Freeman probably went to his grave with his lies. We shall see if Ole Margaret does the same.

      • Chase says:

Way to go, Carolyn!!!!!! It was not so much the video that bothered me as it was them deleting negative comments. Of all the organizations to do that!!! A most excellent job on your part! Thank you!!!

  12. ninja says:

This is a RECENT comment from one of Ole Margaret’s Enablers on Honor Flight Arizona Facebook page:

“Not sure where the claim of Maggie having nieces that died in 9-11. It has always been her daughter. Never has she said in the past 10 yrs she had nieces that died in 9-11. When I brought it up to her 2 days ago she said “what are you talking about? My daughter died, I don’t have 2 nieces. My brothers died in WW2 and the Korean War” that’s all I have.” She was pretty upset and considering she has had 2 strokes and a brain tumor sometimes it’s hard to decipher her. She was adamant about this. That being said, I also believe that with the ribbons etc between her husband and 3 brothers it definitely is a possibility that she has mixed them up. Maggie is 84 yrs old. She has not been in good health the last 10yrs. I have personally met a soldier she cared for in Viet Nam. I have also met at least 5 people she worked with *** plus conversation with a few nurses she served with in Viet Nam. I am telling you, Maggie De Santi served her country for 30 yrs with the US Army. She is a nurse. She no longer has a nurses license. She absolutely is a Veteran.”

Ole Margaret said “My brothers died in WW2 and the Korean War” that’s all I have”.

Research by this ninja have discovered that Ole Margaret DID have 3 Brothers who served in the US Army.

They are all Deceased, but not by Military Conflicts.

One Brother served in WWII. Public Information. He passed away in 2003.

Second Brother served in Korea (was wounded) and served about 20 years. Service might have included Vietnam, since that is on his Headstone at Quantico.
Vietnam ERA Veterans are allowed to have “Vietnam” inscribed on their Headstone even though they may have never been Boot on the Ground.

This Brother passed away in 1998. All Public Information.

Third Brother served in Korea and was a member of a VFW in Maine. He too passed away. In 1984. Public Information.

IMHO, I think Ole Margaret may have been riding on the Coattails of her Three Deceased Brothers and probably started this Shenanigan after 9-11, as so many other Phonies have done.

    The Enabler also commented:

“I have personally met a soldier she cared for in Viet Nam. I have also met at least 5 people she worked with at *** plus conversation with a few nurses she served with in Viet Nam.”

Still wondering about Jerry D. Walker knowing Ole Margaret when she was a “Capt” in the US Army Nurse Corps. He vouched for her as well.

Get out the popcorn. Here comes the Excuses (already starting “She was pretty upset and considering she has had 2 strokes and a brain tumor sometimes it’s hard to decipher her.” “Maggie is 84 yrs old. She has not been in good health the last 10yrs.”)

Still believe Ole Margaret is only 82 years old based on NY Birth Records and NY 1940 CENSUS that is PUBLIC INFORMATION.

How many paid expenses did Maggie DeSanti incur during her PAID Honor Flight? I’m sure it was a hefty expense!
It’s very obvious that Maggie DeSanti is a remorseless con gamer and pathological liar, I wonder if she’ll ever be held accountable in this life?

Not if Folks keep defending and enabling her!

One person made a comment that they saw “both DD214s”.

          Both? Two DD214s?

Possibly one when she “retired” as a “Capt”? The other when she “retired” as a “LTC”?

          *sarc on*

So does this mean Ole Margaret forged some Internet DD214s? Just as she Internet produced the picture of the WACs in training?

  13. ninja says:

    Please see Post Above.

One of Ole Margaret’s Enablers said the following:

“Not sure where the claim of Maggie having nieces that died in 9-11. It has always been her daughter. Never has she said in the past 10 yrs she had nieces that died in 9-11. When I brought it up to her 2 days ago she said โ€œwhat are you talking about? My daughter died, I donโ€™t have 2 nieces.”

So, am guessing the Kentucky News Era Reporter made up this up about her in 2002?

“Retired Captain Maggie DeSanti of Long Island, N.Y., a retired nurse, knows this spirit. DeSanti has three departed brothers, all of whom were members of the association. She joined the association to support their memories.”

“However, DeSanti recently was hit by a different tragedy: the World Trade Center attack on Sept. 11. She lost a daughter and two nieces in the disaster.”

“These guys and their wives kept me going,” said DeSanti, who heard almost immediately from the Rakkasans’ Association members. They flooded her with messages of hope, e-mails and calls.”

Ole Margaret and her Enabler has some explaining to do. And please do not use the 84, I mean 82 year old mentality excuse.

The older we get, the more we remember our past memories versus where we put our glasses 5 minutes ago.

    Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.

  14. ninja says:

Ole Margaret said to her Enabler that she does not have 2 Nieces:

“Never has she said in the past 10 yrs she had nieces that died in 9-11. When I brought it up to her 2 days ago she said โ€œwhat are you talking about? My daughter died, I donโ€™t have 2 nieces.”

Really? Well, on Ole Margaret’s Facebook, one individual commented “Looking good Aunt Maggie” on Ole Margaret’s picture she posted of herself waving.

  15. ninja says:

Ole Margaret seems to fit this to a T. She needs Mental Help NOW:

“Pathological lying is a behavior of habitual or compulsive lying.”

“Defining characteristics of pathological lying include The stories told tend toward presenting the liar favorably. The liar “decorates their own person” by telling stories that present them as the hero or the victim. For example, the person might be presented as being fantastically brave, as knowing or being related to many famous people, or as having great power, position, or wealth”.

Ole Margaret said she personally knows Billy Joel.

“Pathological liars are great storytellers. Their lies tend to be very detailed and colorful.”

“Even though obviously over-the-top, the pathological liar may be very convincing.”

“A pathological liar tells lies and stories that fall somewhere between conscious lying and delusion. They sometimes believe their own lies.”

    “Examples of pathological lying:

    * Creating a false history, such as saying theyโ€™ve achieved or experienced something they havenโ€™t.

    * Claiming to have a life-threatening illness that they donโ€™t have.

    * Telling lies to impress others, such as saying theyโ€™re related to a famous person.

“The following are some signs that identify a pathological liar:”

    * They often talk about experiences and accomplishments in which they appear heroic

    * Theyโ€™re also the victim in many of their stories, often looking for sympathy

    * Their stories tend to be elaborate and very detailed

    * They respond elaborately and quickly to questions, but the responses are usually vague and donโ€™t provide an answer to the question

    * They may have different versions of the same story, which stems from forgetting previous details

This is a VERY Interesting 2016 Story from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD about a Betty Kruger from Maryland:

“Army Nurse, Baltimore Native Survived Vietnam and Iranian Revolution”

“A Maryland native who was a nurse anesthetist in Vietnam said she never felt more alive than while serving the nation.”

“Retired Lt. Col. Betty Kruger served through a tumultuous period in American history; in the 1960s, women were still adjusting to their role in the U.S. military while serving in combat zones and โ€œhot spotsโ€ around the world.”

Betty is a nickname for Elizabeth.

There IS an Elizabeth Ann (Anne) Kruger who was an Army Nurse CPT who is listed in the 1972 Version of U.S. Army Register.

And there IS an Elizabeth Anne Kruger who held a Nursing License in Maryland and Colorado.

Am beginning to wonder now if folks that claimed that Ole Margaret took care of them in Vietnam were confusing her with Betty Kruger or other Nurses.

The article is worth the read.

BTW, there IS NO Margaret De Santi or Margaret DeSanti or Margaret Macalino listed in the U.S. Army Register.

    • ninja says:

Just verified that Betty Kruger and Elizabeth A. Kruger ARE the One and Same Person.

She also DID serve in Iran in 1979 as she stated.

    • rgr769 says:

I read the linked story. Betty’s narrative about her service in the Viet of the Nam has the ring of truth. I note she said nurses did occasionally ride in a helicopter, but only on one transporting a severely wounded soldier from her hospital to the 95th Evac at Da Nang. I was in the 95th once and it was like being in a stateside hospital (one of my LRRP guys was there being treated for a bullet wound). I might add, he was extracted by a Dustoff and no Army nurses were involved with that Huey except for maybe one of the nurses at the 95th helping put him on the gurney at the helipad.

      • ninja says:

Notice the diffence between Betty’s story and Ole Margaret’s story?

Betty was able to identify which Military Units/Hospitals she was assigned to. She shared about her experience as an Army Nurse, how she obtained her degree, her life during her one year tour in Vietnam (Ole Margaret said she served two years in Vietnam) and she never mentioned once about any Awards.

Betty’s Military Service and Nursing License have been officially documented.

        Ole Margaret has NADA.

Thank You for sharing your story.

        • rgr769 says:

Yes. Ol’ Maggie has zero to support her Walter Mitty tale of daring do. No military records whatever for a supposed 30 year career as an Army Nurse, no record of ever having been licensed as a registered nurse anywhere, and a story which defies the reality of what nurses did in Vietnam. Then her BS is topped by the cherry of badges and ribbons she could not possibly have earned, like the jump wings, the Air Force Senior Flight Nurse wings, and the WWII WAC service ribbon.

          • ninja says:

Why do I suspect that in the end, nothing will happen to Ole Margaret, to include charges filed against her for STOLEN VALOR?

She will probably fake Dementia and get away with her Fakery. And folks will believe that and continue to coddle her until she returns with another TALL TALE.

Watch. I guarantee it will happen and evidently, Ole Margaret will go to her Grave never admitting she lied and will play the Victim Card.

            • Poetrooper says:

“Why do I suspect that in the end, nothing will happen to Ole Margaret, to include charges filed against her for STOLEN VALOR?”

When the story of Maggie DeSanti airs on Inside Edition, it will be likely that other news outlets will also pick up on it. Not because they are brave to do cutting-edge hard news, but because it is now safe to pile on and not be perceived as the first to be attacking an elderly woman.

Make no mistake about this – our very own “Ninja” deserves the lion’s share of the credit for driving this story and keeping it in the forefront.

You will see people come in at the last minute and blow the foam off the top of the beer, however. There are just too many people that sense an opportunity to take credit.

  21. AverageNCO says:

Throwing in my two cents based on some recent comments.
    1. For anyone who thinks Don Shipley is jumping on late for attention, Inside Edition reached out to him, and in the video I saw he gave initial credit to Doug Sterner and Jonn Lilyea for their work in 2014 to expose De Santi.
    2. One of her defenders was willing to have a civil Facebook conversation with me. To summarize her explanation for her Silver Star: In 2014 Maggie encountered a general officer with the last name Anger. Unknown if Anger was retired or active duty. According to De Santi, Gen. Anger told her he was submitting her for a Silver Star and advised she could start wearing it immediately. He later told her he made a mistake and he should not have advised her to start wearing it. Unfortunately, Gen. Anger has since died and can’t authenticate her story.
    3. I would be very curious to know the age of Maggie’s daughter that did or didn’t die in 9/11. Here is why. Maggie claims she served from Vietnam era through Desert Storm. If she have become pregnant prior to around 1976 or 77 she would have received a mandatory discharge. That would put her having her child in her early to mid 40’s. Not unheard of, but again less likely. Of course I’ve been checking ancestry female birth names of De Santi in New York in the Ancestry database from 1950 to 1980 and I can’t find any married or maiden name De Santi’s among the verified 9/11 victims.
    4. Regarding those who claim she treated them in Vietnam. Think about all the times you were treated, how many of you can identify the nurse who treated you? I was medic for 21 years, I don’t know that I can remember a random patient that I treated. Another thing, there are multiple instances of phonies convincing genuine veterans they served with them. I’ve been working on a case of a phony green beret who has convinced a legit green beret MOH recipient they fought together in the battle that earned the real green beret the MOH. In reality, the poser was still in boot camp the day that battle took place. For all her faults, it appears Maggie is very convincing.

    • rgr769 says:

I love Maggie’s story about some general telling her he was putting her in for a Silver Star and she should start wearing it on her fake uniform. What rubbish coming from someone who never served a single day in the military. All her stories about herself and her family members are complete bunk, as proven by ninja’s research of public records the two FOIA responses on her.

    • The Stranger says:

General Anger? See, hereโ€™s the thing…there arenโ€™t THAT many flag officers out there and thatโ€™s a pretty memorable name. Letโ€™s put aside that Silver Stars arenโ€™t awarded in this manner. To quote Plugs Biden, โ€œCome on, man!โ€
