UPDATE: ‘Alaska Bob’ Drama

| September 27, 2019

Military Phony has been in contact with Jesse Major, the reporter who did the original story about ‘Alaska Bob’ in the Peninsula Daily News.

They are ready to go with the story and he did say that he confirmed that the NPRC documents that MP/TAH posted are indeed authentic.

The only thing he is waiting for at this point – Kelly, Bob’s friend, has assured Major that Bob is mailing him his DD-214 that shows he was in Vietnam and Cambodia.  He is also mailing a signed release form so that the newspaper can obtain the DD-214 directly from the NPRC to authenticate it.

As a side note – I don’t know how any DD-214 can confirm somebody was in Cambodia unless it lists Cambodia as an assignment.  Lord knows we’ve seen that before.  Vietnam should list appropriate medals.

The interesting thing with all of this is that Bob is saying nothing but the newspaper really wants a quote from him.  Kelly is doing all the talking for Bob, including issuing the promise that the documents are on the way.

So, the newspaper is waiting… and waiting.  I think they may have to rely on the mail being carried over the rugged Alaskan mountains by yaks, but it will eventually arrive in Port Angeles Washington for all those waiting in anticipation.

At that point, we will construct a TAH group apology to ‘Alaska Bob’ and Kelly and have everyone sign it.  *COUGH*  That is, of course, if the DD-214 does in fact arrive and exhonorates him.

So, the reporter is only going to wait a little longer and may eventually move forward with the article without the alleged DD-214 and/or Bob’s comment on this fiasco.

We’re getting close.  This is exciting!  It’s like playing an online game of virtual chicken.  Who’s going to blink first?  Is Kelly going to be holding the proverbial bag?  Is Bob going to hibernate in the mountains of Alaska and never make any more trips?

By the way, many have asked to see photos of Bob at the Vietnam Wall.  Not too much to ask considering that it appears to have been paid for by those same people that are asking.

Yeah, sure. Because there were sooooo many high school kids serving in Cambodia during Vietnam times.

Hack Stone

That’s Viet Of The Nam times.

QMC

My father dropped out of high school after the 10th grade and joined the Navy. He was 18 stationed in Da Nang when Tet first went off in 1968. The Cambodia portion is definitely a stretch, but there were plenty of kids of high school age that served during Vietnam.

This guy seems to have been able to still attend high school and fight in Cambodia (after classes and the weekends, I guess). That’s got to be a first. Maybe Cambodia is the name of his high school gym.

Martinjmpr

Maybe Cambodia is the name of his high school gym.

Or maybe “Cambodia” was what they called the crazy girl who gave it up to everyone.

“I was in Cambodia last weekend” – yeah, you and half the football team.

Gives a new meaning to the headline:

NIXON VOWS HE WILL PULL OUT OF CAMBODIA

5th/77th FA

I hereby would like to be the FIRST to render a double handed ONE finger salute to Alaska Bob for his Post Viet of the Nam Times and NEVER in the Cam of the Bodia Service.

We man never see the DD 214 or the pics of him and the fat bottomed girl at the Wall, but we did get to see some pics of the the Badlands outside of Wall, so there is that.

Ex-PH2

Bob is mailing him his DD-214 that shows he was in Vietnam and Cambodia…

Ummm… I checked both of my DD214s and they only list the places of discharge. No indication of anything else, such as TAD to some exotic foreign spot like the Navy Yard or Pax River.

The form number is 1 JUL 66, so if he’s from the Vietnam times, wouldn’t his DDs be the same form as mine?????

Claw

“wouldn’t his DDs be the same form as mine?????”

Ex, – Probably not. His DD214 (for a 1978 discharge) likely has a publication date of 1 Nov 72, not 1 Jul 66.

16 years later DD214s came up for revision/republication and the next batch of DD214s were dated Nov 88.

(Disclaimer – My Army career spanned Feb 1971 to Dec 1991 and I have DD214s with both dates)

Hondo

Actually, Claw, there was at least one version between those two. I’m intentionally omitting the date of that version in this comment so that I don’t inadvertently help out someone trying to fake one.

Claw

Correction acknowledged. Put my Google-Fu skills to work and sniffed out the date of the version between those two.

Thank You.

AW1Ed

Come on, Ex. Pax River keeps me employed, and would be a great place to be if it wasn’t in the PDRofMD.

Ex-PH2

But it was a foreign land, AW1Ed! There were people there who flew… or something.

AW1Ed

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Ex-PH2

🙂 🙂 🙂

We had a guy I exposed some years back spotlighted here by the name of Ken Willis, he claimed to be a Vietnam vet also. His records showed he spent 15 months in the Army put out as an E-1, and never left Benning. He tried to tell everyone, and anyone his VA card said Vietnam Vet on it and the records we had were wrong. When I asked him in person to see his VA card with my card pulled out for comparison he refused to let me see his. I get the feeling this is going to be the same thing. The “I have a 214 that says I’m legit, but I’m not gonna let you see it” type scenario.

Daisy Cutter

Yes, exactly. The POSer Playbook, pg 14, section 3c:

1) Give a strong hint of its existence

2) Show willingness to produce it

3) Once 1 & 2 above are out there, never actually produce it for this reason or that reason

It’s coming. It’s coming. Didn’t you get it?

Hondo

Sounds kinda like the same game played by bunny-boi (AKA “Fefe-forker”).

I wonder if he ever went home and found his (flippin’) shine box?

Old NFO

One would think. Mine doesn’t give ANY duty locations, just my awards, qualifications, and schools.

SFAlphaGeek

Mine have the notation “Served in a designated imminent danger pay area // Service in wherever” and the dates, but that may be a recent innovation, or may only be done for activated reservists.

Honor and Courage

I was in Cambodia, and my DD214 has no mention of that service. I do however have a Campaign star on my VCM that covers the date. Ist Calvary Division

Comm Center Rat

I can’t imagine Alaska Bob has the intellectual or computer skills needed to construct even a moderately convincing false DD-214 reflecting military service in VN or Cam of the Bodia.

Bob is probably hoping this story dies with him when he takes his Stolen Valor to the grave.

marinedad61

Comm Center Rat,
Don’t be so sure about that.
Plenty of phony morons have the ability to
(1) find a blank DD-214 on the internet and fake it up, or
(2) Copy, white out, copy, alter, and copy their own DD-214.

We may laugh, or cringe, but many an awful looking fake DD-214
has fooled dates, mates, spouses, employers, voters, law enforcement,
and most civilians in general.

This turd (Steve Zahuranec (Sr.))
actually put (Navy) SEAL on the upper left of his….
which I spotted in 3 seconds.

So I guess Robert Elgin Glaves, Jr. does not know how to use a Fax Machine or a computer to send Jesse Major a “copy” of his DD214.

Or better yet, Kelly is ignorant on using those tech items as well.

Stall tactic; trying to buy some more time to “make” a bogus DD214.

Next stall tactic is Kelly will inform the Reporter that Alaska Bob “passed away”.

Alaska Bob’s wife is an Associate Pastor in a Church. Am sure that Church had a Fax Machine or a Computer that ole Bob can send his “DD214” to Jesse Major.

Jesse Major most likely will never receive the “DD214” in the mail: it will mysteriously be “lost”. Unless Jesse Major ask that ole Bob use a tracking number.

IMHO, Jesse Major needs to go ahead and write the story now since he has proof from NRPC as well as Yearbook Photos and proof of Birthyear for Ole Bob (1958).

Mr. Major can also find numerous court cases on Ole Bob if he researched Alaska Court Cases. All of the cases have Bob’s DOB as being the same: the Spring of 1958.

Stall Tactic from Bob & Kelly.

Terry Sheehan

IMHO, Jesse Major needs to go ahead and write the story now since he has proof from NRPC as well as Yearbook Photos and proof of Birthyear for Ole Bob (1958).

They have demonstrated that they are slow with some things but fast on others. If Major runs with the story, Kelly will be quick to criticize his journalism skills and say that he should have waited or got Bob’s statement. Better yet, she should pay for the plane ticket for Jesse Major to fly to Alaska and hear the response face to face.

sgt. vaarkman 27-48thTFW

This clown was hatched in “58” he’s 3 years younger (55)than me, when I enlisted in “74” I wasn’t even concerned that I was going to go to the southeast Asian wargames. “Alaska Bob”bin’ Dic must have manhood issues about his military service.

sgt. vaarkman 27-48thTFW

BTW I did not go too the SEA wargames, should’ve stated the possibility was quite remote at that time.

Currahee John

What’s funny is that I was born in 1959, enlisted on my 17th birthday in 1976, and so far as the GI Bill (but NOT the VA & DOD) was concerned, I’m a “Vietnam Era” veteran. IIRC, that era for those specific benefits ended in DEC1976. It was nice getting those sweet Vietnam era ed benefits while getting my undergrad degree.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Hey Bob/Kelly! The ball’s in your court! Cowboy up with the docs… or be stained with the stench of Stolen Valor for eternity.

BTW – I hope someone investigates you for SV fraud, since you took money under false pretenses.

Ex-PH2

At this point, his reluctance indicates that he may be hiding more than just fake service he didn’t have. Has he been getting some kind of compensation from the VA that he was not entitle to? Isn’t that a criminal offense, as in Wilted Willy’s POS brother’s financial chicanery?

HMCS(FMF) ret

“Stolen Valor is just the rancid cherry on the shit sundae”… applies to “Alaska Boob”

Hondo

Shouldn’t that be “the rancid cherry”?

HMCS(FMF) ret

Thanks for the correction, Hondo… working on the second cup of coffee right now.

AW1Ed

Fixed, no charge.

FuzeVT

Perhaps we can enlist Snow Shoe Thompson to bring the DD-214 down from the snowy north. Should be seeing that by spring, I suppose!

[Thanks to Johnny Horton for bringing SNT to my attention so I can make that obscure reference in this post.]

Terry Sheehan

I can see him now. Much like the movie “The Hateful Eight” the door swings open and snow flurries fill the doorway. Snow Shoe Thompson shakes his big bear coat off and sprinkles snow everywhere. Mail call!

What? Twice in one month?

Frankie Cee

“been to Vietnam and Cambodia”? H’mmm, while I was in, (Pre-Vietnam, no combat), my unit did a TDY to the Philippines for tactical maneuvers with the Philippine Army, and one to Ft Stewart Georgia for an Armored/Airborne link up. None of that is on my DD-214.
Yesterday I attended a funeral for a real deal, badass, Vietnam Era, Air Force Master Sgt, whose DD-214 listed a very impressive lot of accomplishments, awards, medals and badges. He spoke of that to no one, even dying without family and only few immediate friends. When we, in the area, learned of his passing, we chose to honor him by networking requests for people to attend. What we thought might be 5 or 6 people became hundreds. He earned that, this poser, Alaska Boob, did not.

Frankie Cee

“Alaska Boob” spelled as intended.

11B-Mailclerk

Outstanding work. Thank you.

Daisy Cutter

Keep in mind – Bob will not try to appease the veterans, he just needs to buffalo the civilians.

That’s why my money is on it saying.

“Servicemember deployed to Cambodia.”

Sarge

you had me at Boob

ninja

IMHO, Bob & Kelly are stalling for time, most likely may be trying to figure out how to get $$$ to “reimburse” those who contribute to their Bogus Bike Trip, i.e. perhaps putting up his Bike for sale, because after all, if he is truly “dying”, why need the Bike?

Word to Bob’s wife: Hope he does not steal from the collection plate in your Church that you are an Associate Pastor.

ninja

Hmmm..

Wonder if ole Kelly can lose her Social Worker License in Washington State if she is caught lying as well?

BTW, her License is Public Information just as Bob’s Court Records in Alaska and Washington State as well as his California Birth Record.

So, does anyone here think he wil change his DOB on his “DD214” as well as creating a bogus DD214? Wonder if he will make similiar mistakes as Forgin Frank did.

Are you reading this, Bob & Kelly?

HMCS(FMF) ret

I’m thinking that the State of Washington “frowns” on things like lying and other “character flaws” that social workers have committed…

ninja

Public Information on Kelly’s License:

https://npino.com/social-worker/1073810669-kelly–cook/

https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/providercredentialsearch/

(On 2nd Link, look for a Kelly Cook with Middle Initial of “M”).

She has a “Social Worker Independent Clinical License”.

She is supposely a Counselor for those who have PTSD.

Hondo

Ah, geez – don’t tell me he’s playing the freaking “Vietnam PTSD” card.

If he is – and is getting VA bennies based on PTSD from Vietnam service he never performed – I hope we can interest a Federal prosecutor in investigating this one. And I hope the judge hearing his case is a vet.

Ya think a prior felony conviction might rather dramatically lower the odds of getting off with only probation?

Ex-PH2

I’m suspicious of that, too, Hondo, which is why I asked about the form number on the DD-214.

Ex-PH2

And if she is located in the state of Washington, why is he in Alaska?

Something’s not right here.

Forgot to add that Ole Bob’s Court Records for Oregon has 1958 as his Birth Year, except for one record dated 1989 where he gave his Birth Year as 1953.

If he did indeed claimed 1953 as his Birth Year, that means that his Parents already had a 3 Year old when they married in 1956 let alone those Yearbook pictures. Doubt he shows up in any 1968-1971 Yearbook as a teenager.

Hondo

That 1953 entry might well be a transcription typo from when the date was entered into the online system. Those numbers (3 and 8) are typed with the same finger, but using different hands. It’s a reasonably common goof – not as common as an adjacent-key misstrike, but still reasonably common.

Frankie Cee

“Those numbers (3 and 8) are typed with the same finger, but using different hands.” Interesting, Hondo? Are you saying that your fingers are interchangeable from one hand to the other?

Hondo

Not at all. But the brain does sometimes on rare exceptions “cross-circuits” when performing many repetitive actions with the hands – and hitting 3 when 8 is intended is one such example of it doing so with the hands.

Hitting adjacent keys (with the correct or “wrong” finger) is more common. But “right keystroke but wrong hand” also occasionally occurs.

David

My brain only has a few fingers to choose from when typing. Not exactly Tammy the Typist here.

Sarge

Time to stock up on some popcorn!

That looks interesting. Montana is supposed to get a large boatload of snow this weekend, so I wonder how much of that will hit the Kelly Canyon area.

Am sure he probably has a Fax Machine or a Computer to send Jesse Major his “DD214” instead of “snail mail”.

Hondo

That’s odd. Why would an Alaska business be listed with a Washington-state address – and a fax number having a 425 area code?

Ex-PH2

I would hazard a guess, Hondo, that he is not actually in Alaska at all. That he is, in fact, a resident of the state of Washington, instead.

Hondo

Could be. And if that’s the case, I wonder if he’s accepted any of Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividends (if he’s “eligible” for them) while actually living in WA?

Bob should have his DD 214 sent by SGT Preston of the Yukon with his dog King’s sled team. This way, it would be delivered faster than a mailbag at a whistle stop.

Daisy Cutter

Dogs on a good sled team will poop on the run.

I saw that on Discovery.

Sj

I’ve been known to poop on the run too. But I’m 78.

Daisy Cutter

Q: You know what can help with that?

A: Depends.

A Proud Infidel®™

WELL GEE WHIZ, NO DD214 exhonorating ‘Alaska Bob’ Glaves, and methinks that we likely won’t see any pics of him at the Wall in DC either unless it’s some piss-poorly done photoshop.

Daisy Cutter

The battleground of “I sent it, why couldn’t you wait for it” is far better than “I refuse to send it.” The former is making the point that the evidence to exonerate him exists, but people aren’t interested in the truth.

Ret_25X

My DD 214 lists all of my combat deployments for which I was granted a campaign ribbon and how many campaign stars.

My 2-1 and later ERB list every deployment in the assignments section and every award in the awards section. Subsequent awards of campaign stars (bronze service stars) are also listed with campaign name.

Of course, the Sergeant Major gets better customer service from the S1, but I always made sure my records matched my service exactly–did not make me popular with the S1 crowd when I would come in with my big 3 ring binder and troubleshoot them over my records.

rgr769

For the benefit of those who did not serve in the Viet of the Nam or the Cam of Bodia and/or haven’t ever seen a for realz Vietnam times DD form 214, my DD214 does say “Vietnam” and lists the inclusive dates of my service. But had I been in Cambodia (which I wasn’t) it certainly wouldn’t be there because no US personnel were supposed to be in Cambodia in the 1970-1973 timeframe. (The Cambodian Incursion would not be included because it wasn’t an assigned duty station, I would think.) I have flown over Laos to view the Ho Chi Minh Trail. That is not on my DD-214.

It will be interesting to see what Baloney Bob has on the DD-214 he supplies to the reporter, since his official record of assignments shows he never left CONUS except for the 3 weeks he spent at Ft. Sherman in the Canal Zone for Jungle Warfare School.

Perry Gaskill

When I was in Buon Ma Thuot, it was not a big deal to cross the border into Cambodia. It was a roughly 15-mile drive west of town to where the road forded a creek that was on the border. There used to be a group of Vietnamese kids who hung out there. For about $1 MPC, you could pull a jeep into the middle of the ford, and the kids would use buckets and rags to give it a bath.

If somebody hadn’t told me the creek was on the border, I wouldn’t have known it. No customs, no fences or guard towers, and no “Welcome to Cambodia” sign. It was just a back road in the boonies.

Daisy Cutter

Bob’s DD-214 will not show Vietnam or Cambodia because he was sheep-dipped by the CIA.

It was back in the days of late afternoon after school hot washes. A very common practice in the 70s.

rgr769

We all know how easy it is to fake a DD-214 and the fact they frequently have mistakes and omissions. I fail to see how Bob could have any legit document to prove Vietnam service, let alone Cambodia, when his assignments record section of his original Form 20 shows no assignment outside CONUS and he never enlisted until six months after the absolute end of the Vietnam war for the Vietnamese and U.S personnel, in April 1975.

Ex-PH2

He could say he was drafted, but the draft had already ended and his records clearly show that he volunteered.

NHSparky

“Son, there ain’t no draft no more.”

“There was one?”

Mustang Major

“Alaska Bob” may be looking for his former high school guidance counselor to authenticate his DD 214. This could explain the delay on his part.

Ex-PH2

Or maybe he’s just delaying it because he’s a compulsive liar….

Mustang Major

Just thinking that if Alaska Bob served in Vietnam while in high school, his combat service might be listed on high school transcripts. History elective I bet.

Hack Stone

Check his yearbook under extra curricular activities, Hack is more than confident that it will list Track Team, Debate Team, and Black Ops in the Viet Of The Nam/ Cam Of The Bodia.

Claw

Already did that. Looked at all the Yearbooks his pictures were in to see if he did anything at all extra curricular wise.

Nope, Nada, Zilch. No sports teams, not on the Chess or A/V squads, FFA, Tuba Player in the band or Crossing Guard/Hall Monitor.

Baloney Bob was a spook/ghost for his three years of high school at Rogue River before dropping out./s

Hack Stone

Who has time for all of those activities when the CIA picks you up by helicopter on the football field every Friday after 7th period and flies you to Southeast Asia to take care of Charlie? I

Daisy Cutter

Although on the surface extremely funny, it IS the only plausible explanation.

Ex-PH2

Yes, but he wasn’t old enough to enlist while he was in high school, so-o-o….

Poetrooper

Any of you lawers (or anyone else) who comment here feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m thinking ol’ Bob may not be completely brain dead. By allowing Kelley to handle all his communications, he is avoiding the risk of any further SV lawbreaking. As long as she’s the one who makes or defends any fraudulent Stolen Valor claims, Bob is off the hook. And since Kelley is not a lawyer, and making no false claims on her own behalf, she has no legal liability for making false claims regarding Bob’s service. You can only be prosecuted for making fraudulent claims about your own service, right?

Like any good legal defense team, they are employing the effective tactic of delay, delay, delay, giving themselves more time to get their act together, and, as I strongly suspect, to destroy as much evidence as possible.

Where I believe Kelley’s vulnerability may lie is in the PTSD thing. If this turd, Bob, has been milking that VA/PTSD cow fraudulently, aided and abetted by this social worker who appears to be a PTSD specialist, then that could be a license lifter for a state-licensed medical social worker.

What say the TAH lawers?

PTBH

If the shyte hits the fan, Bob can always say he never talked to Kelly about sending a DD-214.

Kelly can say that it is her bad, she misunderstood when he said “I’ll send a DD-214… when pigs fly.”

I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve watched a lot of courtroom drama on TV.

Hack Stone

You know who else isn’t a lawyer? That’s right, Daniel Bernath!

Hack Stone apologizes for not issuing a preemptive Level IV Spew Alert prior to commenting.

The Stranger

Yeah, he’s not a lawyer, and wasn’t a very good one before he was disbarred. However, he’s doing a bang up job as a corpse!

Hondo

Where I believe Kelley’s vulnerability may lie is in the PTSD thing. If this turd, Bob, has been milking that VA/PTSD cow fraudulently, aided and abetted by this social worker who appears to be a PTSD specialist, then that could be a license lifter for a state-licensed medical social worker.

That could well be more than a license-lifter, PT. It could be “accessory to fraud” or “conspiracy” – and Uncle Sam REALLY doesn’t like it when people steal from him.

If Boob here ever applied for VA bennies based on “Vietnam service”, he’d have to have supplied a DD214 (or other documentation) showing he’d served in Vietnam. A copy of that DD214 or other documentation would be on file with the VA – along with his VA benefits application swearing, on penalty of perjury, that all information contained on or supplied with said application was true and correct.

His official records don’t show any deployments to Vietnam. Ergo, any such documentation is at best highly suspect, and at worst is an outright forgery.

If he had his (presumed) ladyfriend/social worker help him apply for Vietnam-related bennies due to PTSD, it’s very likely either she knows its a scam or she was duped. Either way, she’s likely to be caught in a squeeze if this becomes a criminal matter.

If the crap hits the fan, my guess is she’ll cooperate with the prosecutors if she was duped. (Hell, she may cooperate and cut a deal even if she was a knowing participant.) Because either way, if she doesn’t . . . loss of license may well be the least of her worries.

Just my $0.02 worth as a layman with an interest in the law.

Friend

Wait..if she’s his social worker what the bloody hell is she taking a trip with the SLOB?
If I’m correct dating or hanging with your patient/client is frowned on. Conflict of interest…

rgr769

I find it interesting that Kelly does all the talking for Bob. We have heard nary a peep from him since his radio interview. Kind of reminds me of “Brown Stain” Brown, as he has had zero direct statements since MP outed him.

Ex-PH2

NHSparky

I guess Boob is also unaware of the policy DoD adopted to stop sending 17-year olds to RVN.

So now we’re in spring of 1976, a full year after Saigon fell.

Interdasting…

rgr769

Yes, he had no need to know of that policy, because he enlisted in late 1975 after the Viet of the Nam War was ended by the NVA’s conquest of all of South Vietnam.

ninja

And since he enlisted in October 1975, Ole Bob is not even considered to be a Vietnam Era Veteran.

Are you reading this, Kelly?

The clock is ticking.

Ex-PH2

And since the USA had NO diplomatic relations with the communist government of Vietnam in 1975, if Bob had been there any time between May 1, 1975 and the end of 1978, he’d have been arrested and thrown into jail as an illegal alien. Bill Clinton re-established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1995, twenty years AFTER Americans and VN refugees left that country.

ninja

Ex:

Bob & Kelly need to take a History Lesson from you.

Hopefully Jesse Major, the Reporter and the Editor of the newspaper that published the story are reading this and will publish the “Rest of the Story” NOW on Robert Elgin Glaves, Jr.

Ole Bob will never mail his “DD214” and Kelly will never provide it. The Reporter and the Newspaper may be enabling Bob and Kelly negative character flaws by delaying the story.

Again: Does Ole Bob REALLY have terminal cancer?

Ex-PH2

I summarized it here, but put a longer, more detailed rundown on the US and Vietnam over at MilPhony. Keeps my history pencils sharpened. 🙂

Personally, I have strong doubts that either Bob or that wanker in Elko will ever pony up with their documentation, because they both have someone fronting for them.

If they wanted attention, they got it. I wonder if it’s the kind they wanted.

rgr769

Your historical report on MP is spot on. My last unit in the RVN was deactivated and sent stateside in early 1972 when Baloney Bob was about 14 or 15 years old. But Bob prolly heard many stories about the Viet of the Nam from his instructors at Jungle Warfare school and the six weeks he spent at The Benning School for Wayward Boys for jump school and the Benning phase of Ranger School (which he obviously flunked, unless he was seriously injured).

ninja

A Theory:

Remember that Robert Elgin Glaves, Jr. did not complete High School.

He probably did not do well in Geography and confused Fort Polk (Lousiana) and Fort Benning (Georgia) to Viet of the Nam and Fort Sherman (Panama) to Cam of the Bodia.

Basic Training, short duration of RANGER Training and Jungle Warfare Training messed up his head; the Instructors for those courses were probably Boots on the Ground Vietnam Veterans and drummed into his head that he was actually in Viet of the Nam.

In other words, an Alternate Reality World for ole Bob.

*sarc on*

Hack Stone

You just gave away the plot to Jacobs Ladder.

rgr769

Damn, you just stole the plot of my fable. I was going to post that he had an internalized fart that traveled to his brain and caused him to hallucinate that he was in the jungles of Vietnam when he was actually in the jungles of Panama; and then he had another brain fart at Benning at Camp Darby causing him to believe he was in the Cam of the Bodia.

ninja

Great minds think alike, rgr769.

rgr769

I heard Fort Polk had one of those villages; and in the Infantry Officer Vietnam Orientation course I attended at Benning in 1970, before my trip to the Viet of the Nam, they ran us through one of those mock villages.

Ex-PH2

Or maybe Ol’ Bob is just a lying sack of bird doots trying to scam freebies and money and sympathy out of people by lying about something he did NOT do, and places he NEVER traveled to.

Hack Stone

His time in Viet Of The Nam/Cam Of The Bodia is soon to be a major motion picture, titled “A Crock Of Shit Now”.

(Full disclosure; that was the title of the Mad Magazine parody of Apocalypse Now.)

Comm Center Rat

“I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That’s my dream. It’s my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor … and surviving.” COL Kurtz

rgr769

Stupidest movie ever about the Viet of the Nam. I even paid to watch it in a theater. First, none of us were allowed to wear beards in uniform. Second, Russian roulette was not the national sport of the NVA and VC–they did not have revolvers. They only ones I saw there were issued to the Air Force pilots and AP’s as they were not trusted with semi-auto .45’s.

Hondo

Well, if Wikipedia is to be believed the VC apparently had some Nagant M1895s – and even had some with suppressors for use as assassination weapons.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagant_M1895#History_and_usage

Yes, with suppressors. Because of its design (which moved the cylinder forward when cocked, thus eliminating the barrel/cylinder gap), the Nagant M1895 was one of the few revolvers that could be suppressed effectively.

(I only know this because by chance I was reading some random articles within the past week regarding the ballistics of various cartridges and ran across the Wikipedia articles on the Nagant M1895 and its cartridge – the 7.62x38mmR.)

rgr769

I have a friend’s son who has one of those revolvers. It broke and I tried to repair it. What a piece of junk. I shot it after he had it repaired. Still cheap junk. As a battalion S-2, I had to bag and tag all captured weapons. I never saw a Nagant or any other revolver captured from the enemy, but saw several Chinese Tokarevs. I imagine any Nagants were only found in the very early years of the conflict, and then in very small numbers.

Hondo

No doubt the number was small, and you’re certainly correct that they were more an early Vietnam War weapon. From what I understand, the VC used literally any weapons they could get/scrounge/capture – but did get better supplied by the North as the war progressed.

I presented the above more for the “you’re kidding” factor regarding the suppressor and the Nagant’s design.

Perry Gaskill

I remember Army helicopter pilots wearing .38 revolvers in shoulder holsters. It never came up in conversation, but I always assumed it was because it would have been easier to draw than the usual .45 sidearm based on seat design and being belted in.

Personally, I’ve never had a problem with Apocalypse Now because unlike, say, Platoon or We Were Soldiers, it wasn’t a war movie in the typical sense. As mentioned in another thread, Apocalypse Now was based on the Joseph Conrad novel Heart of Darkness which itself was an allegory. What Conrad did was raise fundamental philosophical questions about good and evil.

It might also be mentioned that Apocalypse Now was released after Vietnam, and at a time when Hollywood generally considered any serious treatment of the war as a toxic topic.

Apocalypse Now also presents a paradox: The character of Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen) was sent on a mission to kill Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando) even though he both understood and admired him. Willard’s empathy for Kurtz was necessary to complete the mission, but it also presented a moral dilemma.

To quote Friedrich Nietzsche, “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.”

rgr769

Actually both, but the Russian Roulette scenes were in Deer Hunter. Apocalypse Now had those absurd scenes with Sheen traveling upriver to kill obese Brando’s character, Col. Kurtz. Both movies were ridiculous flights of fantasy, compared to the reality I know.

Apocalypse Now “jumped the shark” for Vietnam movies.

Perry Gaskill

Overheard somewhere in New Jersey:

Vinnie — That Coppola guy really jumped the shark with The Godfather.

Angelo — Yeah, “leave the gun, take the cannoli.” Who says that? If you’re going to whack a guy, you just whack him…

Hack Stone

According to IMDB:

Richard S. Castellano ad-libbed the line “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.”

ninja

As a 12 year old in 1970, Ole Bob was inspired by the 1970 movie “Nam’s Angel”. Read the plot below:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nam%27s_Angels

Plot:

“The plot involves a gang of Hells Angels-type bikers called “The Devil’s Advocates” involved in the Vietnam War. They are sent to the Cambodian jungle on Yamaha bikes in order to rescue an American diplomat/CIA Agent, Chet Davis.”

“The biker gang is led by Link Thomas, a Vietnam veteran and the brother of an Army Major who has recruited them. His gang consists of Duke, also a Vietnam veteran, Limpy, Speed, and another Vietnam veteran, Dirty Denny. They are under the orders of Army Captain Jackson.”

“The gang modifies their motorcycles in a garage run by Diem-Nuc. They weld armour plating with submachine guns on the handlebars. Limpy drives a three-wheeler modified from a Harley-Davidson frame with a Volkswagen rear end, that is armed with heavy .50 calibre machine guns and a multiple rocket launcher from a helicopter. In order to open fire on enemy soldiers in trees or towers, the gang do wheelies whilst firing their weapons.”

😉😆

I stand corrected about the stupidest movie ever about the Vietnam War. This one gets that trophy.

Hack Stone

There are a lot of contenders for stupidest Viet Of The Nam movie. A few years back, Jonn started thread on stupidest military movies ever. Can’t recall what movie he put in the running, but Hack mentioned a film about a Special Forces Soldier who punched his CO for leaving I’m behind enemy lines, so he got courtmartialed and promptly escaped. So the CO stopped the entire war effort to have US troops hunt him down. Can’t recall the name of the movie, but it was an extremely low budget film with a lot of Italian names as writer, director, producer, etc. Someone here was able to name it, but it slipped from Hack’s memory, again.

Found it, thanks to Al Gore’s Amazing Internet.

Sorry, Hack Stone. Your posting was not nearly as diaphragmatically exhausting, nor, did it express the depth of idiocy of “The Losers”.
“The Losers” exposed a formation of a guilt culture trying to say “We weren’t there, but we made this movie for you!”

Awaiting incoming, over;

Roh-Dog

Wtf did I just watch?
That was like a bad acid flashback.

rgr769

I am now going to experience the flashbacks and the night sweats again after watching that trailer. This must be what Bob experienced on those weekend excursions to the Viet of the Nam during his freshman and sophomore years at Rogue River High.

The Stranger

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…the worst Viet of the Nam movie ever made was “Casualties of War”, starring Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox. Yes, such a movie was made. Alex P. Keaton and Spiccoli running around with M-16’s and a plot that included just about every liberal stereotype about the military and the war. Just horrid with no redeeming qualities. Laughable action scenes, the obligatory “crisis of conscience”, just terrible.

rgr769

What I noticed about that movie was it had the usual trope of GI’s raping and murdering innocent civilians “like Ghengis Khan,” as Lurch would say.

The Stranger

I thought Lurch pronounced it “Jinjiss”, trying to sound smart. Whatever. Lurch can eat a bag of dicks.

rgr769

He always tried to sound “smaht.” But it never seemed to work.

According to the article, Fatasska Bitch and his idiot sidepiece er, sidekick were supposed to drive to Jersey and be escorted to the Wall. If they were escorted any distance whatsoever by any chapter of the Blue Knights, please let me know what chapter and State they hoodwinked. I don’t think they will be much pleased knowing they had been duped and they would certainly assist in outing/providing testimonial facts for this fraud case.

A Proud Infidel®™

My bet is that we’ll soon find out that they never even went within a few hundred miles of DC!

Green Thumb

Extra Turd.

Daisy Cutter

I think you all are onto something.

Kelly’s reaction and defensiveness are odd, to say the least, and I’m betting it goes beyond a charity fraud.

Bob was probably her cash cow and entry into the lucrative PTSD market. She can’t even entertain the fact that he is lying because her entire world will implode – business, personal, etc.

She is 100% invested in Bob’s story. How many other veterans did she cite that she had a Vietnam/Cambodia vet and he did A, B and C? If those patients get wind of things they will definitely feel they were frauded. Probably the term will be emotionally violated.

Kelly has a registered business in Washington State. That’s at risk if she is reported to the BBB, or worse.

Before she built upon her model patient, she should have checked into his background. Now, the boot’s going to drop.

Stated another way – I think a charity scam is the LEAST of her worries.

Hack Stone

So, you are saying that she hitched her wagon to the wrong star? If business ends up in the shitter in the Northwest, she can always relocate to Elko Nevada. Word on the street is there is a plethora of disturbed veterans down there.

26Limabeans

She would have to compete with Laura.
Could get nasty.

Hack Stone

Ex-PH2

Hmmm…. Kelly’s sounding a bit testy now. Something is getting on her nerves. Why IS she so defensive about Bob? Hmmmm…..

Mustang Major

So I guess she feels that the other remarks by the TAH commenters must be on the money if she hasn’t complained about them.

ninja

Kelly has “crossed into the land of libel” by being a hypocrite in what she wrote to Admin.

SHE is the one “endorsing two untrue and fictitious statements, i.e. Ole Bob being a Vietnam Veteran and serving 5 months in Vietnam & Cambodia.

Kelly wants to stick to the facts? It is SO obvious FACTS have been provided to her and yet, she is STILL in DENIAL about Ole Bob.

Wow. Kelly claims on MP that she counsels Veterans for PTSD, yet she herself can’t face reality that Ole Bob LIED to her about his Military Service.

She WON’T ACCEPT FACTS about Ole Bob. And now her stall tactic is a “Process”.

She can travel across country on a Motorbike, yet somehow CAN’T seem to get Ole Bob to fax HER his “DD214”.

Bet she has yet submitted an SF180 to NRPC for FOIA on Ole Bob’s Military Records.

Quit going on the Defense, Kelly. GROW UP and start taking action on getting with Ole Bob on his records.

Does Kelly still believe in Santa C, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy?

Asking for a Friend.

ninja

The other thing is that I have yet to see Kelly respond about Ole Bob’s High School Yearbook pictures, which is another FACT.

Kelly, this is SO SIMPLE that “EVEN A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT”. Have Ole Bob FAX you his Birth Certificate and Driver’s License along with his “DD214” for his Birth Year. Ask him if he had a National Defense Service Medal. Submit a SF180 to NRPC to obtain Ole Bob’s Military Records. Ask Ole Bob the name of his Vietnam “Buddies” who are on The Wall. Ask him what unit he served with when he spent “5 months in Vietnam and Cambodia”.

And since you are good Buddies with Ole Bob, why don’t you contact his Mother, his Siblings and his Wife, who is an Associate Pastor in a Church and ASK them about Ole Bob’s Militar experience.

If you DO counsel authetic Vietnam Vets, Kelly, then ask them if it is POSSIBLE for someone BORN IN 1958 and who came into the US Army in OCTOBER 1975, AFTER THE FALL OF SAIGON, to have spent “5 months in Vietnam and Cambodia”. Ask them if they think your Biker Buddy is indeed a “Vietnam Vet”.

Also, ask Ole Bob to fax you his Certicate from RANGER School. Ask him what Class he was in and when he graduated.

When you add up the months Ole Bob spent training at Fort Polk, Fort Benning and Panama, it comes up to about “5 months”.

As I and others commented here, Ole Bob has turned Louisina, Georgia and Panama into Viet of the Nam and Cam of the Bodia.

As a reminder, Kelly, your Biker Buddy IS NOT EVEN A VIETNAM ERA VET.

Kelly either has Head Space Timing issues or has been severly brainwashed by Ole Bob that she can’t comprehend THE TRUTH no matter how many FACTS have been presented to her.

ninja

The other IRONY is that she counsels folks who have issues, but can’t look into a mirror to see HER ISSUES.

I feel for those Veterans she “counsels”.

IMHO, Kelly NEEDS TO SEE A COUNSELOR for her Denial Issues. She needs to recognized that she has been brainwashed by a LIAR, an individual who lives in an Alternate Reality World.

Or perhaps Kelly DOES KNOW THE TRUTH, but is trying to protect HER own reputation, which is getting more and more obvious.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Kelly does a disservice to those that actually went to Vietnam and saw combat. If she’s involved in “Alaska Boob’s” little scam, she should lose her license and spend a long stretch in jail.

A Proud Infidel®™️

“Kelly” needs to discover that denial isn’t just the name of a river in Egypt!

Ret_25X

Sigh…would someone please inform Kelly (henceforth, Miss Can’t Be Wrong or MCBW) that she is using words like “fact” and “libel” but they don’t mean what she thinks they mean.

As for “Alaska Bob” (or Bob the Bummer as I call him), the thing to remember is that his fraud is a team effort and MCBW is one of the volunteers.

Stolen Valor is the rancid cherry on a shit sundae, so the rest of this story is going to be very interesting.

On the day Kelly said Bob’s sending his 214 to the reporter I send my brother (lives in France) a card.
He received it Saturday.

If you were to go to the US Postal Service website, and use the calculator:

1) enter the zip code for Fairbanks, AK (99710) as the FROM address
2) then enter the zip code for Peninsula Daily News (98362) as the TO or DESTINATION
3) then make as the far-ranging, benefit-of-the-doubt choices such as large envelope, rigid-do-no-bend, etc.

It comes out to:

Two or three days average, perhaps five as first class. Media mail will take another week.

Again, this is if it was sent in a bulky, oversized package.

A regular letter takes about a day less for first class.

So, if he sends it today, the PDN should get it by Wed (Oct 3) at the latest. But, it sounds like it has already been sent – or that was the claim.

BUT, this is all academic. Alaska Bob has successfully set himself up to be the sole verification of his own claim. He has the key to the information that exonerates him and he’ll get around to supplying it when he’s good and damn ready. All he has to do is keep saying it exists and he’ll get around to sending it off, but he answers to no man so isn’t going to jump through hoops for another living soul. If the post office lost it, he can’t help that. He sent it. If it needs to be sent again, he’ll get around to it when he’s good and ready, and not a second before.

What Bob is not ready for at the present time is to say he won’t send anything. He’s not ready for that criticism, so this is all a huge stalling tactic until such time that he’s really backed into a corner.

26Limabeans

He can at least read it to him over the phone.

A few poker lessons here:

* BLUFF – Kelly’s rhetoric has died down and is now all but silent. She is no longer dishing out moral chastisement lessons. The possibility of Bob lying to her must be slowly sinking in. You can only play a bluff for so long and you eventually have to show what’s in your hand.

* PAY YOUR DEBTs – It’s been a long night, but at some point you have to cash in your chips and pay the dealer. You’ve been playing with house money, but you still owe people.

* WATCH MY CHIPS – If you have a partner and the game isn’t going so well, be cautious when he says “Watch my chips, I’m going to the bathroom” since logic dictates he may never return.

* WHO’S THE SUCKER? – When you’ve been playing poker for 15 minutes and you can’t figure out who the sucker is in the room – you are the sucker.

This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your regular programing.
