About That CNN Program You Missed….

| September 8, 2019

Last week, CNN had a 7-hour TV marathon debate about the so-called “climate crisis” among the current crop of nebbishes running for the Democrat nomination. Among them was good ol’ Bernie Sanders. That this asinine event even took place and quickly became a laughing stock due to NOT attracting a large audience at all, is telling by itself.  https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/09/08/cnn-democratic-climate-gabfest-displays-candidates-monumental-energy-ignorance/

This article about the Midwest (flyover country) relates how the current crop of democraps are completely missing the boat with their Greenbean agenda. This says it all: it is jobs, jobs, jobs that are important, not some esoteric nonsense about how the Earth is burning up and how we need to pour trillions of dollars into stopping it. This is true in all states, whether the dumbassed Dems like it or not, and they have zero plans to boost the economy, period.  https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/columnists/daniel-howes/2019/07/25/jobs-jobs-jobs-drive-industrial-midwest-voters/1821175001/

The Greenbean stuff in that debate focused on the catastrophic financial proposals for spending on Greenbean stuff, e.g., the GNDeal, and did not address jobs. The Democraps are so busy pandering to the media spotlight that they aren’t attracting votes or voters. In fact, those more moderate people such as union workers are now questioning their own loyalty to That Club.

I don’t know if Bernie’s proposals to unionize all work places and eliminate right-to-work laws has come up since August, but here’s a Fox article on Bernie’s plan: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sanders-aims-to-double-union-membership-scrap-right-to-work-laws

Since the right-to-work laws prevent forcing people to join a labor union and paying a fee if they don’t, which is extortion, and there are 27 states that have that on the books, if boggles my mind that the narrow view of someone like that makes him think he’s improving the work place when he isn’t.

Unions drove the auto business in this country into near extinction, because wages for people other than UAW workers didn’t usually rise with the cost of a new car.  When things really went sour, imports like Toyota, which had been seen as a rather dismal replacement for a Chevy, started to ramp up.  But unions didn’t see it that way and tried to fight the increase in imports, to no avail.

Losing the majority of the auto trade, they went elsewhere.  I may be the only living soul who remembers the Teamsters Union strikes, and all the corruption that went with labor unions in the 1950s and 1960s, but they caused a lot of problems that the current crop of overgrown children have never seen or experienced. Maybe a visit to that kind of thing, where you have to stay off work, union or not, until a deal is settled (which sometimes took weeks to months) and meantime, you’re broke, would shake up the placid little world of Libertards.

I sincerely hope that the Democraps lose again this time, and lose badly. This path they are pursuing is destructive to everything, and Bernie’s proposals might attract votes for him that he wouldn’t otherwise get. It all looks good on paper – always does – but the personal cost to people who have to put up with it is serious.

I must say, MiLady, you are spot on in each paragraph. Well done. I haven’t watched CNN since the end of Desert Storm. I only watched it then when home off the road ’cause step son was a Brad Gunner in the 24th Mech. And that was only for a few hours total. Everything about Ted Turner got a bad taint about it when he married Hanoi Jane.

Climate Change AKA weather, has been ongoing for millions of years. These idiots that think they are going to use “Green Energy” to power the world are smoking some really good stuff.

I have to tread very carefully on the union/company subject. When I officially come off of the payroll in December, remind me to throw my 2 pennies worth into that subject. I will say this now. The Unions and Companies both, just like the elected career politicians, have done everything they could do to screw the people, all the while telling them; We know what is best for you. Grrrrrrrr

Never liked unions. They had their time when labor was getting the short stick and taking a beating or two.

Today unions are just another form of socialism. In the union you can work harder than the next guy but still get paid the same. Since there is no incentive to work harder output declines and the company suffers.

Add in the first in last out seniority with hard to terminate rules the companies suffer even more.

As a union member for years, everything you’re saying is true, and add to it that the union “leadership” is in it for the perks they get, and the representation / defense you get from them is directly related to how buddy / buddy they are with management, and if you’re one of their “Chosen”.. I was left out to dry when a chief that all the union reps golf with / have season tickets with decided to go after me because I showed he was a lying hypocrite. 20 years of union dues got me jack shit when i needed it.

Witnessed all of the above.

Unfortunately, the Free Shit Army (FSA) couldn’t care less about taxes and the Green Nude Eel, as most don’t pay taxes in the first place. As long as the Dems keep the Free Shit flowing, paid for by those of us who do pay taxes, they’ll get the votes.

Need income to be taxed. The street creatures and welfare queens receive tax money and/or benefits, and are not interested in paying anything. Trump’s economy has done a good job reducing their numbers, but there will always be those who are happy to receive the government’s largess at taxpayer expense. And will vote accordingly.

CNN stands for communist news network or comedy news network or clown news network or crooked news network.

So, it’s like a cable channel, that no one watches?

I remember Kroger’s driver on strike in early ’70 who wanted to get off strike and back to work, but “the union bosses want to move up from GTOs to Cadillacs.”

I spent thirty years working for various companies that were unionized. I ended up with 26 years pension credit and a pretty good retirement. I always rode for the brand and not the union and that caused me some problems with some union members but made me popular with my employers. I recall a strike many years ago but can’t remember exactly when ,that lasted six weeks. Not all carriers were struck and it really hurt the ones that were. I was working for APA Transport then and I did not vote for a strike but was unfortunatly out of work for the duration. I never voted for any of the Teamster backed political candidates either. I believe that strike was a self defeating exercise.

Is anyone actually surprised to discover a generation coddled from birth is finding a great deal of appeal from a group of politicians who promise to coddle them from the moment they leave mommy until the day they die?

In a country where everyone is a victim and no one is actually to blame for their own failings a government safety net big enough to wrap you in its comforting trap from birth to death appears to be the required rescue from victimhood.

We have long since removed ourselves from the concept that we must, each of us, rise or fail on our own based on the risks we take and the skills we bargain with along the way.

We all know what happens when you raise your child by giving in to their every want instead of teaching them discipline and self control. The kid ends up virtually useless because they have no sense that things desired must be paid for with the sweat and effort of someone’s work.

These Democrats are looking to exploit that with the promise of free shit, however the problem with socialist “free shit” is that nothing is ever free…however socialism often gets voted in when the electorate doesn’t understand why things are “free”, much like why mouse traps work because the mouse knows not why the cheese is free.

Socialism as a mousetrap… that’s one of the best short descriptions I’ve ever seen on the subject VoV. Thanks, do you mind if I appropriate it?

IMHO Socialism is a form of Government SO terrific that it needs to be kept upon a populace at gunpoint once it is inflicted.

Case in point, Venezuela. At one point it was the fourth richest country in the world and the wealthiest most prosperous country in all of Latin America. No one had a reason to leave unless they were traveling. Now look at it. Of course we all know that all of that changed when the socialists took power and many companies both small and large ended up closing due to being seized by the government and being horrifically mismanaged while the ones that are still operating now operate at a loss. Of course oil was the only thing making any real money and when the price of oil fell in 2014, there went the economy as there were no backup industries (it royally pisses me off to no end when I see morons who blame it on US sanctions (oh yeah it was the big mean old America’s fault) when this is a classic example of what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket as oil was the only thing making money and you have the government sticking it’s nose where it shouldn’t). Now the country is in a total tailspin with no sign of stopping. A tragic example of riches to complete rags. As much as I want to be sympathetic, the Venezuelans really should have known better. Because of this (and I am only 22 years old) I find myself becoming more and more attached to minarchy aka the Night Watchman style government which for me would be the federal government only focusing on the powers that are specifically outlined in Section VIII of the Constitution along with the federal courts prosecuting certain crimes such as murder and having an amendment that establishes term limits for Congress (two four year terms for the House Of Representatives while Senate can have two six year terms and give the power of electing senators back to the states rather than popular election, that’s what the House is for) and maybe a rule for the Supreme Court that the Constitution must be interpreted as it was originally written while leaving… Read more »

Ah, unions. Got to love ’em. NOT. I was a shop steward in mine. One of our National Reps was sent away because he was so buddy buddy with management and tried selling us down the river when it came to be contract time. I found myself having to defend people who richly deserved firing, and by the time I quit as a steward I told people who had pulled stupid shit and gotten in trouble they needed to find another steward to represent them because I couldn’t for whatever reason seemed the most plausible. We had a chair van driver who was arrested in a company vehicle doing B&E’s with like 15k worth of stolen stuff in the van, the local PD caught him in the act and the union wouldn’t let the company terminate him. The clown was a wannabe gangbanger… Yup, can’t even get rid of somebody caught in the act by the PD. Unions and their butt buddies in the dummycrap party, a match amde in the infernal regions.

Used to exhibit in electronic trade shows in Chicago. You couldn’t bring in your own gear, you had to pay the Teamsters to do it. You couldn’t plug in an extension cord, you had to hire union electricians (and yes, they only come in pairs). We finally marked that toilet of a town off of our tour. The cost was ridiculous; the delays deadly.

Twist

My Father was a steel worker and when I was a child it seemed like every other month he was sitting at home trying to figure out another way to put food on our table because his union was on strike. Thank goodness we had a wood burning stove and lived next to a river. We cut a lot of firewood and ate a lot of fish growing up.
