Tuesday tomfoolery

| April 1, 2025 | 30 Comments

Seems the hits just keep coming.

As we look forward to the 80th anniversary of  the battle of Iwo Jima, remember the name of John Ullyot.

He’s a Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary  who commented on the fact that due to Ira Hayes being a Pima Indian (hence part of a DEI initiative? Really?) the classic six-Marines-raising-the-flag-photo is deleted from the Pentagon’s website.

John Ullyot, a Pentagon spokesman, has refused to backtrack, and praised his staff for their “rapid compliance” with the directive.

This is the same clown who got benched last week when when Army vet Jackie Robinson’s info was removed. He’s still with us.

In a statement after the article’s removal, which was shared with The Daily Beast, Ullyot referred to DEI—which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion—as “Discriminatory Equity Ideology.”  Daily Beast

Jackie Robinson and Ira Hayes. Rapid compliance, my ass. What a maroon.

The President has backtracked on something he said recently – a few days back he warned US auto makers not to raise their prices in response to foreign vehicle’s tariff-driven price increases. Now…

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he did not warn car industry executives against raising prices as tariffs on foreign-made autos come into force, telling NBC News he “couldn’t care less” if they do.

In the NBC News interview, Trump said his permanent tariffs on foreign-made automobiles would be a boost to U.S.-domiciled factories and was confident the move would lead to increased sales of American-made cars. “I hope they raise their prices, because if they do, people are gonna buy American-made cars,” Trump said.  Reuters

Obviously a man who has zero understanding of how many automobile components are sourced world-wide…here’s one you can bet on: American car prices are going to go up almost as much as foreign car prices due to all the parts made overseas which cannot be sourced in the US at competitive prices. And it will NOT be a temporary increase until we are using 100% US sourced parts at which point a Caddy will cost $20 grand. Sorry to bust someone’s bubble. Oh, and it’s nice to see the President who campaigned on “we’re gonna drive prices down” saying he couldn’t care less if they don’t.

Ah, and Trump is floating the idea – again – of a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment. Apparently he thinks that he could run as Vance’s VP in 2028, they could get elected, and shortly thereafter Vance could hand the Presidency over.

When asked whether he really wanted another term, the president responded: “I like working.”

“I’m not joking,” Trump said when asked to clarify by Welker (Kristin Welker, “Meet the Press” – ed), who even began her line of questioning with the assumption that he was. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

Welker asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President JD Vance ran for the presidency with Trump as his running mate and then passed the role over to him. The president responded, “That’s one” method, adding: “But there are others too.”

Get elected and hand it over…right. I won’t say who, but someone’s been drinking his own bathwater. Here’s an excerpt from the 22nd:

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
And then there’s that 12th Amendment ‘gotcha’ – “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice-president of the United States.”  That is popularly interpreted to mean if you are ineligible to be elected President, you can’t be vice president, either.  But it really does not address it specifically.

Alternatively he could try getting another Constitutional Amendment passed. Good luck with getting 3/4 of the states behind THAT one.

Idiot from the pentagon should have been gone… sounds like malicious compliance..

As to President Trump and the 22nd.. Here’s hoping he’s just trolling the left. If he’s serious, I imagine the vast majority here would oppose him on it, as we all should..

Hate_me

I’m pretty sure he’s taking full advantage of the concept of misdirection. The more readily they react to (and won’t let go of) anything sensational, the more he’s able to actually accomplish on the side.

MIRanger

Is this an April Fools joke? It certainly sounds like a bunch of bad jokes

KoB

That or the SPoTW Thread dropping early? Not a fan of April Fool stuff. Mama thought that a phone call she got on this date in history in 1963 was a joke. Nope…it wasn’t. Papa was killed in a truck wreck that was not him at fault.

KoB

Yep…to all of the above. Much respect for your work and research on stuff you post. Threading the needle on inherwebz (and other sources) news is tricky at best and can be down right dangerous. And with the other comments on “bashing” I don’t see what you do as “bashing”…I see it more as “pointing out”. And I take my revulsion of politicians even lower than mayor. They are ALL equally worthless to me…Demonrats and/or Republicunts. Had a local County Commissioner that saw the repo man from the loan company hooking up to his daughter’s car that was six (6) months past due and had been moving the vehicle around to here and yon, trying to stay a step ahead. Repo man had left copies of the paperwork on CC door when no one came out. CC Man waited til Repo Man was hooked up and pulling out into the State Highway before CC started blazing away with his Glock. CC Man jumped into his vehicle and chased Repo Man up the road, steady blazing away during the chase. Repo Man pulled into the Sheriff’s Office Parking lot to seek cover, with CC hot on his tail. CC was arrested and charged with several felony charges that have now been quietly pled down to misdemeanors. Being of the “protected class” CC ran for and got re-elected this past November.

On a positive note, Wagon Train has restarted with the FIRST (ht2…oh…wait…) Episodes and the Remington Weapons they are using are semi period (1867). Not a single 1873 Colt’s to be seen…yet. Today’s Episode (S1 – E3) features a very young and drop dead gorgeous Caroline Jones wearing a period bustier. No Morticia Outfit here….and no zippers… Hubba hubba!

There was a local well drilling company that had a small billboard stating “Our goal is to pump your hole”. It sems to be gone now, can’t imagine why. I kinda liked it.

These idiots have been deleting and then reposting MOH recipients on line on DOD websites because they are the “DEI” skin colors for the past month or two. I haven’t seen this much ignorance on social issues and US History since, well, the last president. I didn’t actually think it could be worse but they are definitely having a “hold my beer” moment.

For my background check this out

Not “my”, but more.

a few days back he warned US auto makers not to raise their prices in response to foreign vehicle’s tariff-driven price increases.”

Fake news. The only source for that that I’ve seen is a WSJ article. I can’t read it because it’s behind a paywall and I won’t pay money to be propagandized; but none of the multitudes of other outlets reporting on this “news” has shown a direct quote or any actual evidence that he said any such thing, so I doubt that the WSJ article did either.

How many times has Trump been taken out of context or his statements intentionally misrepresented to score cheap political points?

But you still just take something stated without evidence in the media as gospel?

I still enjoy this site for the other articles, but the incessant Trump bashing is getting a bit old. I’m OK with legitimate criticism but what I’ve been seeing lately goes way beyond that…to the point of blatantly misrepresenting his positions and regurgitating TDS inspired talking points from the MSM.

If I want to read that crap I’d subscribe to the WSJ or NYT. I don’t come here for a daily dose of leftist propaganda.

Just saying.

5JC

Here is a copy of the WSJ article.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tuesday/comments/1jmxl2w/trump_warned_us_automakers_not_to_raise_prices_in/

BLUF – the claim comes from CEOs whom he was on a conference call with last week, not a public statement. He seemed to be belabouring under the impression he was doing the US auto industry a big favor.

The WSJ is fairly conservative.

Sailorcurt

Back when I actually used to read the WSJ, in my recollection, the editorial pages were way more right leaning than most other outlets, but the news articles were just as capable of spreading misinformation as any other rag. Of course, I haven’t read it in years so things may have changed.

Regarding the “claim”: It wasn’t even a direct quote from one of the unnamed executives, so the assertion is at least third-hand. Trump (allegedly) says something, the executive paraphrased it to the reporter and then the reporter paraphrased it in the article. Which means what is claimed in the article likely has very little relationship with what Trump actually said. Which, of course, proves my point.

Stating as fact that Trump “warned US auto makers not to raise their prices” on that tenuous piece of “evidence” is pretty much the definition of fake news.

Sailorcurt

Don’t get your panties in a wad – my comment wasn’t directed toward you. It was directed toward the proprietors of this blog. I’m not a shrink and I don’t expect to be able to cure someone of TDS.

I’m wondering…in your bashing of Biden, Harris, both Bushes, the Squad etc, did you take their statements out of context, misrepresent their positions and blindly assert unproven accusations as statements of fact?

I’ve never quite mastered those techniques of propaganda and I prefer more substantive discussions than “if you don’t like my fake news, don’t read it”. But that’s just me.

My blood pressure’s just fine. I’m not losing any sleep over your antics, I just think they’re doing a disservice to this blog, which I otherwise enjoy; a point I wanted to make to the people running the place.

Yeah. I am starting to worry about the criticism of Trump as well.
A long time ago, the Democrats realized politics was war by other means against the conservative movement, not just Republicans, and including libertarians.
Democrats circle the wagons every time one of their politicians or one of their talking points is criticized, and the corporate media ignore all wrongdoing by Dems.
I wondered why, as they must be aware of how risky that policy is. Obviously, they realized that any step forward toward achieving their goals is more important than truth and accuracy in reporting. Controlling the government is the only way to exercise policy changes, and absolutely everything they do leads to their control of the government.

The conservative side has not learnt that lesson.

That’s why I unconditionally support Trump. Because the alternative is Democrat control. Not half-cooked “nice guy” Republican can beat the Democrat machine, as demonstrated by Mitt Romney, because the conservative base can see it is business as usual and will not be motivated to go out and vote.

Therefore, it is time we learn to circle our wagons.

Hate_me

The democrats’ greatest coup was in claiming the title “liberal.”

John Locke is rolling in his grave.

Excellent find!

I thought the President could amend the constitution just by proclaiming it on X. The previous President set the precedent.

Roh-Dog

Also see: ‘The 14th Amendment says whatever we want it to mean’ policy of the; Congress, Judiciary, and N[but really G]GOs.

The object sought by the People, a now-distancing Liberty, is beset on all sides by the tyranny of stupid and puerile ‘men’.

He can certainly try, many have tried over the years.

Ira Hayes has a Johnny Cash song about him. The highest of praise, albeit a sad song about a man who rose to the moment.
