X, Y, Z axis. (Free Icons Library)

One of the ways that President Trump is being complemented is with the “3D chess grandmaster” label. Readers here are familiar with the three-dimensional chess games that they played on the first Star Trek series.

One place to start explaining the 3D concept is with the Cartesian Coordinate System. You may remember this from school while taking math. You have a plane with an “x-axis” and a “y-axis”. The x-axis runs “west to east”. The y-axis runs “north to south”.

In this example, the x-axis would be the “first dimension”. The y-axis would be the “second dimension”. Both axises “cut” or “cross” each other at 90°. In math terms, they are “perpendicular”.

As one progressed in math, they learned of the z-axis. This axis had a height “above the plane” and depth “below the plane”. It was 90° to both the x-axis and the y-axis. This z-axis, shown in the above graphic, represents the “third dimension”.

Theoretically, a fourth axis that’s simultaneously 90° to the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis, would be the fourth dimension.

A chessboard is like a “two-dimensional plane”. Most of the pieces could move north, south, east, or west, if not restricted by other pieces or by certain rules. The bishops move diagonally. The King and Queen can move in any direction, but the King could only move one space.

A chess player has to combine these movement abilities, and factor in the opposition moving their pieces, before their next move. All scenarios only require movement on the chessboard… Only on one level. The more experienced the player, the more complex they could make this game.

Likewise, the more the chess playing experience, the better the ability to play several moves ahead before making the next move. A chess master has plenty of “bragging rights”.

Now, take a chest board and create multiple levels. Eight chess boards vertically above each other. Take the movements as described above, then add the ability to move up and down. This adds to the complexity of the game. A “3D Chess Grandmaster” would even have more “bragging rights” than a traditional chess grandmaster.

Hence…

President Trump is playing 3D chess against an opposition that’s barely “keeping their heads above the water” playing 2D chess.

Nice to see ya WW.

Wilted Willy

Thanks 26! Sorry I haven’t been on line much lately, but I have been having quite a few health issues. I had to have surgery again on my leg, then it got infected, had a bad reaction to the antibiotics. Now I have a bad case of shingles and it hurts to even type! I am on the mend now and I hope to be much better very soon! I love and miss everyone of you!
Take care all,

26Limabeans

Shingles. Damn. Been there.

Praying for you WW.
I’ve not had ’em, but those I know who’ve had shingles have not had a happy time with ’em.
A bad reaction to the drugs is nothing to sneeze at either.

Prayers that the Great Physician will Personally intervene in your case and help you heal, and help your doctors do better as well.

“Thunderstruck!”

Thunderstixx

I have no idea how they put all of this together with the combat scenes and the obvious Navy Veterans, but I really like the movie.
It’s just a great happy ending movie that, although impossible and filled with artistic license and great special effects.
It also treats all military with the respect they deserve.
“Thunderstruck” from the movie “Battleship” !!!

The Other Whitey

I’d be lying if I said that battleships don’t cause Freedom boners. I’ve stood on two, Missouri and Iowa. Me and my Dad also went in halves on a commemorative Henry .22 to support the effort to save the Texas. Hope to visit her someday, too.

Thunderstixx

I’ve been to the USS Texas a few times. It’s a beautiful ship but is stuck in the mud and in real danger of collapsing as the steel is not built to stay in contact with mud but built for immersion in salt water.
I’ve also been to the USS Missouri but not the Iowa, I was born as raised smack dab in the middle of Cornfield USA, so I have a reason to go to see her.

Fyrfighter

USS New Jersey is pretty cool as well (if you don’t mind going to Camden to see her)

Cameron Kingsley

Best thing to do, go to Philadelphia and then cross the river into Camden if that’s possible. I was planning on going to see the New Jersey in the future and I was warned about going through Camden.

Fyrfighter

Cameron,
That is possible, Betsy Ross Brdge (If my memory serves) drops you right next to it, less than a couple miles from the exit of the bridge to the ship. JUst go during the day, and don’t get lost..

Cameron Kingsley

Good advice, Fyrfighter. I remember when I checked the website Neighborhood Scout and a saw that a good chunk of Camden was colored either light blue or white (the color system used went from dark blue to white with white being the most dangerous. Sad part is that the New Jersey is in the better portion of Camden.). That got me to change my plan real quick especially when I read about carjackings being a common occurrence. I sure am glad I wasn’t foolish enough to act on it without thinking it through. In fact one of my ideas was to try and bypass the light colored areas (yeah, how well does that work out when you are unfamiliar with the area). When I saw some pictures showing the condition that it was in I could only think ‘man what a complete slum.’ Even worse, a house there apparently only costs $1500 or $15000 (I can’t remember which).

Seems as if Thunderstixx has laid claim to the coveted First this week. That being said, I’ll just leave this here, for you all to read over, enjoy, comment on … what have you. DID YOU KNOW…? Why was Pez candy originally invented? By Commissioner Wretched Seen any good movies lately? By that, I mean any new movies. Chances are that you haven’t. Oh, not because they’re not making movies – heck, new flicks come out all the time. What they apparently don’t make any more, however, are new movies. Doesn’t it seem to you that just about everything coming out of Hollywood these days is a re-make or a re-boot of something that’s already been done? (And, in some cases, done to death?) Or a sequel? Granted, it doesn’t take nearly as much creativity to re-make a movie than it does to write one from scratch. And, too, studios don’t want to risk a lot of money on an unknown property when they have so much that they already know will earn the bucks, and it’s something of a no-brainer for them. But for old people like me, who remember seeing the originals, it’s rapidly becoming apparent that there’s no reason to go to the movies any more. If they’re short on original ideas to work with, I could recommend a couple of books. They’re pretty good; I know the author. (Me.) Run that up the flagpole and see who salutes. Meanwhile, let’s turn on the projector and watch this week’s trivia! Did you know … … the first living thing to go into space was a dog? Laika, a stray dog found on the streets of Moscow, was launched aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957 by the Soviet Union. The poor dog died in orbit, and her capsule had no heat shield, and no way to safely return her to Earth. … almost half of the people in America believe in ghosts? A Harris poll, taken in 2012, revealed that 42 percent of the people in the United States believe in spiritual visits from the afterlife. The same poll… Read more »

I had the pleasure of doing my one and only ramp jump on Flintlock IV (or maybe VI?). Fortunately, it was over southern Germany and not into Africa. Can’t imagine having to do Flinlock’s four week FTX in Africa. We had to jump the ramp because we had just dropped a HALO team off the ramp, so they weren’t going to reconfigure the aircraft just for the four of us rope jumpers.

I don’t know if Trump is playing “Star Trek 3D chess” and I appreciate the metaphor but I think I might prefer the holographic chess that we saw on Star Wars where the big brutish chess piece moved by crossing the board and bludgeoning its opponents to death, that seems more like his style.

Graybeard

One of the side-effects of trying to work outside when the heat index is triple-digits is I take a nap – and missed the WOT. Oh well. I’ll just have to kowtow to Thunderstixx a bit, and enjoy some good ol’ Texas BarBQ and Shiner Bock in penance. For those 1 or 2 who are actually curious about my experiences with that Walther PPK/S .22LR: 11B-Mailclerk had some questions and suggestions that I took to heart. He asked if my grip was the same as for a big-bore, and my immediate response was “Well, yes, of course.” but then… I was wondering if either subconsciously I was “limp wristing” it or if my grip on the bag was different somehow. So I fired another set of tests. Details on the ammo: Aguila SuperExtra High Velocity 40-grain copper-plated bullets rated at 1,255fps Remington Golden Bullet high velocity 40-grain copper-plated bullets rated at 1,255fps CCI MiniMag Varmint 36-grain copper-plated bullets rated at 1,260fps My test this time used 10 rounds (a full mag) with my forearms resting on the bag (not the pistol and hands) and my usual 2-hand grip I use with my .45ACP, and using the PPK/S .22LR freshly cleaned and lubed. The Remington had a stovepipe on round 6 The CCI had the slide momentarily stick fully back on round 1, and a stovepipe on round 9 The Aguila had stovepipes on rounds 1,2, and 6 11B also suggested removing the recoil spring and manipulating the !empty! pistol to see if there were any rough spots. With the hammer cocked, the slide does hit the hammer before it slides far enough back to expose the spur that is to kick the cartridge out of the chamber in the extraction process. Now, it is obvious that the slide has to push the hammer back in the process of ejecting the shell and returning to battery, but the hammer seems to be moving down to where the sear engages, the back up 1.5mm to 2mm to where it applies pressure on the slide as it returns to battery – hence the… Read more »

Graybeard, I’m not familiar with the PPK/S .22LR, so I did a bit of research.

Listed below are a couple of links to reviews on it: one dated 2015 and the other dated 2913.

It appears that they function better with hotter loads. Also, someone tried Wolf mainsprings to lighten the pull.

Good luck to you and keep your shots in the bull. (smile)

https://www.gunsprings.com

Graybeard

Thanks, Sky.
I saw the Modern Rifleman and the Truth About Guns reviews. I believe the Modern Rifleman review mentioned that the rear sight was metal (“steel” but I’m hedging) – while the one I purchased had a polymer or other plastic rear sight – and the tolerances are much ‘looser’ from the picture they had. I’m thinking Walther has possibly moved to a different (cheaper) supplier.

I might – if I keep this thing – try the Wolf mainsprings, but I’m working under the warranty to get as much of it fixed as I can by Walther Arms Inc.

They don’t like me much in their “customer service” department.

11B-Mailclerk

I have seen .22 conversion kits for 1911s that worked better with the full-power “.45” mainspring than with the lighter ones that come with the kit.

Too light a spring, and the slide doesn’t come forward hard enough to cleanly strip the round from the magazine

If it is failing to fully extract and eject, versus misfeeding, it may be too light.

And some guns are just designed around fast/heavy loads.

5th/77th FA

GB, looks like you got a product that was assembled on a Monday, from parts that were manufactured on a Friday. We can understand that you can get a “lemon” from any one, but I am surprised that a long time reputable Company like Walther has not stepped up and done “the right thing.” Damn shame.

Graybeard

It is failing to fully eject, and occasionally failing to feed. If the hammer is impeding the action of the slide, that could account for the occasional failure to feed.

I keep hoping that they can get it running smoothly.

All the reviews I’ve read praise the PPK/S .22LR as a good, reliable pistol. So it looks like I lucked out and got a lemon.

Since I’m on a fixed income and had to save for a year just to get this one, it is especially frustrating. Compounded by having to disappoint my grandkids.

I keep hoping.

Lars Taylor's Narcissism

I wanted to go, but I am grounded again. I got grounded for getting kicked out of the beach by the lifeguards. How did this happen?

Well, I wanted to see if I could move through the water like some sea creatures do. I went into what I thought was enough water to do my test. When I got there, I dropped my trunks, submerged myself, then l let her rip!

Well, I did not move forward as those sea creatures did. When I felt the lumps shooting out of my ass, I remembered what normally happens when I try to fart. I keep forgetting that I should not trust any of my farts.

The water pulled back, leaving me standing there, trunks down to my knees, and turds and poop liquid shooting out of my ass. My butt orifice was like a runaway train with no breaks. The wave came in and knocked me down then pushed me to the shore.

The waves slammed me to the ground and tumbled me around like a whale getting thrown around. When the wave pulled back, I was butt naked and surrounded by turds. My swimtrucks came off and was beside me. The whistles blowing in the air, and people screaming, made me realize that this caused the beach to be cleared.

My niece pulled me by the ears to the wash stations, cursing and screaming at me the whole way. These millennials do not have any respect. Her husband supervised me. He was not too happy either. On the way home, I was forced to trade places with the dog. The dog sat in one of the front seats, and I was in the back sitting on a bunch of towels.

Now you know why I am grounded again. Too bad, those Latinas will not date themselves. I only date Latinas by the way.

Just want to add that the whole “3d chess” thing was invented by trolls on 4chan to explain how Trump could appear so stupid and incompetent to people yet have people still hold out hope that he would somehow accomplish his signature campaign promises of locking Hillary up (never happening), building the wall (he’s got a couple miles of fence fixed), eliminating and replacing Obamacare (Obamacare still exists), draining the swamp (does firing everyone in your cabinet count?), limiting rules on lobbying (he’s actually hired a record number of former lobbyists to government positions), pulling out of wars (LOL, if you ever expect a Republican to accomplish this, punch yourself in the nuts for being so stupid). But the economy is doing great, so obviously that absolves everything else.
