Happy Birthday, Jarheads!
Today is the US Marine Corps’ real (and official) birthday, established on July 11, 1798.
The Marines’ new commandant is LtGen David Berger. So Happy Birthday, GIrines, and many, many more to come.

I heard that thundering flutter north of me and went outside for a look-see.
Yep, the Marines flew the Sikorsky over my house just now. Good times!
Happy Birthday, to all Marines!
Happy Birthday all you Jarheads, Sea going Bellhops, Gyrenes, Gun Bunnies, Grunts, Devil Dogs, China Marines, Leathernecks. Did I forget any other monickers.????
Don’t forget virgin converters.
Crayoneaters.
Happy (other..?) Birthday, Devil Douches!
Thanks for making the Army look good for 221 (or more) years!
United States Navy, Lower Half.
I kid, of course. Happy Birthday, Marines!
Men’s Department of the Department of the Navy
Someone had to say it…
Happy Birthday, Marines!
Had always been slightly confused about the Corps Official Birthday. This linky semi explains it. I had always thought they had two birthday celebrations because they were special. Or maybe they could get the crayons at one party and the coloring book at the next. (snicker)
Semper Fi and Happy Birthday USMC
Wait, so the Marines have TWO birthdays but the Army has to share ours with flag day?
I’ll keep the operational equipment, they can have all the damn birthdays they want.
That actually works out quite well with our motto, “This We’ll Defend”.
Funny how after 24 years of being a Marine in either the reserves or active duty (4 and 20 years respectively) I hadn’t heard about any significance attached to 11 July. The origins of the November Marine Corps Birthday celebrations go back to John A. Lejeune and a major in the (brand new at that time) Historical Division who suggested it should be a Marine Holiday. (Here’s to the unsung Majors of the Corps!) No importance had ever been attached to 11 July that I have ever seen. Of course, having a big, official celebration during the height of PCS/ change of command season might not be the best thing.

Semper Fi Devil Dogs. But remember the Army pulled off one the greatest amphibious landings in US history (Normandy)..:)
Hey! You forgot about Inchon. That was pretty epic as well. Executed by General of the Army MacArthur, who was originally branched…wait for it… ENGINEER!
I dunno–I served from ’59 to ’73-never heard of a “second” or other Marine Corps Birthday. Will have to check my old Guidebook.
Had to post it. Otherwise, how will Our Very Own Marine be able to have cake and ice cream without a long-winded explanation?
Berger was my BTN Commander. He’s a massive incompetent shit. How fucking far the corps has fallen. He knows where every dead hooker is buried apparently.
