Iraqi Shi’ite militias rip US terrorist designation of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards

| April 15, 2019

The United States officially designated Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization, according to a notice published in the U.S. Federal Registry.

President Trump said last week he would make the symbolic but unprecedented move, which immediately was condemned by Iran and created concerns about reprisal attacks on U.S. forces.

The IRGC is in charge of Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs. It also is involved with the country’s banking and shipping industries. The new designation makes it easier to prosecute companies or people in the European Union that do business with Iran.

Iran’s response was entirely predictable.

A group of Iraq’s Shi’ite militias say they strongly reject Washington’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

The Tehran-backed groups on April 13 said from the home of Iran’s consul-general in the Shi’ite holy city of Najaf that the IRGC had helped prevent four or five states from falling to Islamic State (IS) militants.

“This is laughable coming from the No. 1 sponsor of terrorism, America,” said a spokesman for the Badr Organization, which was part of the volunteer forces that helped to defeat IS along with Iraqi government troops and U.S.-backed Western coalition forces.

Some of the militia groups themselves have been designated as terrorist organizations by Washington.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on April 9 that the United States had made “a vicious move,” adding that the IRGC was at the “front line of confronting [the] enemies” of the Islamic republic.

The estimated 100,000-strong IRGC is a branch of the military that also plays a major role in Iran’s economy.

Is that a WWII MG42?

Combat Historian

Iranian-licensed version of the West German MG-3, which was the modern 7.62mm NATO version of the old WWII 7.92mm MG-42.

In the early/mid 1970s, before the Ayatollahs took over, the Iranian military contracted with the West Germans to completely reequip the Imperial Iranian armed forces with FRG small arms, including the HK G-3 and the Rheinmetal MG-3. Most of these were licensed to be locally manufactured in Iran. A lot of these West German small arms are still used by the Ayatollah Iranians today…

Yes it is the current version of the MG-42. Nice to know that our German Nato allies are supplying machine guns to the ‘SlamoNazis that chant “Death to America” on a weekly basis and are responsible for the deaths of many hundreds of our soldiers in Iraq and other locales.

Looks like the WW2 German buzz saw. Like the comment Combat Historian mentions, I remember reading away back when that A version or versions of the buzz saw was coming out and being used by some foreign countries. During WW2, the military was thinking of manufacturing the MG-42 but problems with machining came up I think regarding a switch over to metric machining. The US M-60 machine gun design was born from the 42.

This pic must be of a MG platoon. I count about seven of them in that photo.

The M-60 took the feed tray cover basically from the MG42. The action is from the Lewis MG.

So Iran doesn’t want help from us any more? Just trying to understand here.

NHSparky

Don’t want to be called terrorists?

Don’t do terrorist shit.

“…The estimated 100,000-strong IRGC is a branch of the military that also plays a major role in Iran’s economy…”

We designated the Waffen SS a criminal organization after WWII, along with the rest of the Schutz-Staffel. We’re just calling a duck a duck…

“concerns about reprisal attacks on U.S. forces.” Is there a peaceful Iran we didn’t know about, one that is suddenly led to violence because of a U.S. decision?

Mason

My thoughts exactly. Reprisal? They don’t seem to need any provocation to want to attack us.

FatCircles0311

Yeah they’ve been at war with us for over 30 years killing our citizens. At what point do we fight back and quit pretending they aren’t at war with us? Iran should have been a parking lot decades ago. We shouldn’t be train ing anyone in that shithole region either because we are fucking awful at picking moderate Muslims and they always turn against us.

Mason

Because there aren’t any moderates. We just go with whoever hates us the least at the moment.

Reddevil

Most of the effective elements of the Iraqi military are Shia. The Rwvolutionary Guars were heavily involved in training and equipping the Shia militias like Jaysh al Mahdi (Army of the Mahdi/JAM), and therefore played a role in keeping IS, a Sunni organization, out of Cities in Iraq.

The Guards are not part of the Iranian Army at all- they work for the Supreme Council on the Islamic Revolution in Iran (SCIRI)-!the Ayatollahs. Similar to the Waffen SS, they are a completely different branch.

The Quds Force are the Gus that go abroad for shenanigans like training Hezbollah and JaM, among other groups of assholes.

M48DAT

Dude looks pretty bad ass humping that MG, just saying.

I have exactly ZERO (0) phuques as to what any mooslum thinks of us. ALL of them scream out their Death to America chant at any and every opportunity.

I repeat a novel idea I have posted here before. Bring all of our boys and girls home and let those people continue to kill one another as they have been doing for the last 1300 some odd years. Satan will enjoy feasting on their God forsaken souls.

A Proud Infidel®™

I wholeheartedly concur.

FatCircles0311

But my moderate Muslim and moderate islam! Today’s moderate are tomorrow’s terror leaders. We’ve learned Jack shit.

Sj

Trying to understand why this matters at all. Iran=Terrorism. Nothing new.

OT, My spidey senses say the destruction of Christian icon during Holy Week smells like a goat fucker was involved

Cameron Kingsley

You mean the fire at the Notre Dame?

Ex-PH2

The work being done was to the roof. The Spire collapsed in sight of everyone within viewing distance, and most of the damage is to the roof.

The fire is being blamed on the construction/repair work being done. Let’s just hope the interior is not too badly damaged.

Outcast

Kind of my thought also, isn’t there a substantial amount of cheap goat herders in France available for employment. Oh well, just wait, Dumbocrats will blame Trump soon as being cause of fire.
