Senator Rand Paul opposes the use of the military to help conduct mass deportations

Senator Rand Paul participated in an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation. Paul was supportive of the idea of conducting mass deportations. However, Paul believes that only law enforcement should be used. He painted a picture of the US military going through US cities, armed with weapons, as something that would not look good in the eye of the public.

While Paul still supports Trump’s plans to expel millions of immigrants from the US, the lawmaker has opposed using the US military to do so, arguing that law enforcement would be better suited.

The mass deportation plans have been widely condemned by civil rights groups and Democrats as cruel and potentially hugely damaging to the US economy. They may also affect many US citizen children, who may have one or both parents vulnerable to deportation.

During a Sunday interview with CBS News’s Face the Nation, Paul was asked how immigration authorities should carry out mass deportations.

“What we know now about the immigration authorities who would have to be charged with rounding these individuals up, there are just 6,000 agents, 41,000 detention beds to carry out the assignment of rounding up millions of undocumented people, potentially. How do you suggest they implement it?” asked the CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan.

Paul criticized plans to use the military for deportation as “illegal”, adding: “If they send the army into New York and you have 10,000 troops marching carrying semi-automatic weapons, I think it’s a terrible image, and I will oppose that.”

Paul did not directly respond to questions on whether use of the military to conduct deportations would impact his Senate vote to confirm Trump’s pick to run the Department of Homeland Security: the South Dakota governor, Kristi Noem.

I believe the Senator is correct,

If memory serves me correctly, the “anchor baby” where a baby born in this country of illegal immigrants is automatically a citizen is a relatively new Ohenomenum. It goes back to Ted Kennedy’s first full term in the Senate when he had it enshrined in law.

So….what do we do when we expel the illegal alien parents?
Seize the US born baby and put it up for adoption to a US family?

I think another part of the anchor baby problem is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” part. If the parents are illegals, who does the infant fall under the “jurisdiction thereof”? The jurisdiction of the country where it is born (US)? Or does the infant fall under the jurisdiction of the parents’ home country?
IIRC, there were a couple of court cases centering around arguments that because the baby was born in the US, the parents should be allowed to stay in the US. Again, IIRC, something about the wife of a diplomat having a child in the US, and wanting to stay. I don’t remember how that turned out. I want to say early 1900s….maybe.

Simple solution would be that they take the baby with them. The only way that ICE would be “tearing families apart” would be if the family decided to leave the child behind. The baby or minor child cannot be deported, but nothing says it can’t leave with the deported family. An “anchor baby” can petition immigration services for immigrant status for their parents when the anchor baby turns 21.

If they climbed over the fence and didn’t ask permission to be here it’s not “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” but that’s not been challenged and settled in court yet.

Welp, he may be correct on the optics on how it would look, however, the optics of millions of lawbreakers scattered all over the country doesn’t look good either. Especially when there are known criminals/gangbangers/terrorists preying upon citizens and non citizens alike. These people did not come here to become American Citizens and make a meaningful contribution to our way of life. They came here for the free sh*t whether it be free sh*t given to them by the grubermint or free sh*t they can steal. Instead of 87K armed IRS Agents, hire 87K armed ICE agents and start with the ones that are known to be bad actors and send their asses packing. Yes it may take awhile, but you gotta start somewhere. I can’t think of a single country in the world that allows this type of invasion to happen. And that’s what it is…an invasion.

The purpose of the military is to defend the country. Fine! Let them defend the border. Be good training for the military to be in an “overwatch position” keeping new invaders out while Law Enforcement rounds up the ones that are already here.

What if we just gave the Marshalls and ICE some units temporarily. They would no longer be military, and would be assigned to ICE until the end of the mission. You know maybe like 75th RGR RGT, along with 160th SOAR… kind of a reorganization temporarily. They would obviously, need some additional training before they could execute their missions.
You know, so they learn to shout “United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement…get down on the ground or you will be…” as they smash through the door and ceiling!!!

Use the military to round up the gangs and armed individuals, their home countries emptied out their prisons and INVADED our country. Demoncrats allowed it. Let ICE and law enforcement get the more peaceful law breakers. Hit those armed invaders hard and fast, if they shoot back then take them out and withhold any “aid” to their home countries to pay for the cleanup.

This should be interesting since interfering with federal officers and harboring deportable illegals is a federal felony. It has been in the immigration enforcement statutes for over 70 years.

Active duty Soldiers in a Title 10 status can’t be used for law enforcement but ARNG in Title 32 can. So can Coasties.

My opinion is we should round up a ton of the obvious blatantly illegal illegals and send them packing. Then deport a bunch of illegals that popped on the radar for warrants, tickets, whatever but make it a spectacle. High visibility. Like grabbed off the street and sent packing without getting their home in order.

The liberals will scream about it but pretty soon, they will be self-selecting to leave so they can leave on their terms.

Then enforce the laws and come down on employers who hire them and states who give benefits to them or shelter them. Make the sanctuary states house and support them until they feel the pinch and then cut federal funds to those states not in compliance with federal law.

Now more are self selecting to leave because the freebies have stopped.

Also, continue talks with Canada and Mexico about the financial ramifications to their choices to let drugs and criminals flow through their borders unchecked.
