U.S. Senator Blumenthal calling on VA to get veterans necessary medical help
Senator Richard Blumenthal is working to get veterans the medical attention they need.
I have no idea what is going on at the VA hospital in West Craven, CT. What I do know is Blumenthal should stay out of it. Much like Congressperson Duncan Duane Hunter, he should no longer represent any cause that is involved with veterans.
I can not help but believe these two attention whores and their ilk only use veterans to promote themselves and little else. Corruption and embellishments are not what most of us want to be associated with military service.
I doubt any VA center needs the help of either one of these two. The Trump Administration has done more to correct what was wrong with the Veterans Administration than all of his predecessors combined.

Da Nang Dick’s only recourse to achieve honor is seppuku. Let’s get going, Dick.
I wholeheartedly concur and second that.
I’ll provide the Wakizashi.
Blumenthal is a disgrace to humanity. As a veteran, I despise him and the life he has lived. Better that Fonda-Blumenthal might never be associated with anything related to veterans in any measure or manner.
“Blumenthal is a disgrace to humanity. As a veteran, I despise him and the lie he has lived.”
FIFY
You can certainly dislike Blumenthal, but in CT, for years he had a reputation for getting things done – he personally intervened to help friends there with a legal issue involving their adopted kid back when he was AG. And in this case, without being able to watch the video, I’m all for any help for the West Haven VA.
In the past, it’s had directors under investigations for all sorts of things – from a lack of sterile operation conditions to financial shenanigans. I think one even used contractors that were supposed to do work on the VA facilities to build an extension to their house, on VA time, but I can’t find that article now.
I don’t like President Trump, but if he calls for improving something I care about, and that gets the gears in motion, I’m in total support of that. The same applies to Blumenthal.
what he has a reputation for is helping donors.
Let’s not confuse “getting things done” with getting “their things done”.
Everything else is bait and switch.
My friends, conservative ones, were not donors – the AG elections in CT weren’t big money draws, and he served in that position for 20 years. This was well before he become more of a political animal.
Not everything is a bait and switch.
Well said, we take our blessings as we find them
I believe I understand your position. I do not have to agree with someone on everything to support them on an issue that I do agree with them on.
Blumenthal is a distraction to getting anything done for a veteran. He draws more contraversy to veteran issues than he could ever do good.
If he indeed wants to help in these cases he should pass them along to someone else and recuse himself from being involved.
He and Hunter will never do that kind of thing quietly to help a veteran because its not about helping a veteran. Its about pimping out veterans to repair their image in my opinion.
They are both a disgrace.
“Its about pimping out veterans”
You are correct and have been showcasing this issue lately through your posts. We can be victims, heroes, bums, crazy gun nuts etc.
The universal soldier!
I swear, there will be a professional
Orator at my graveside who will recite Kipling’s “Tommy” just before the Honor Guard does it job.
I’m glad he helped your friends, I was a CT resident from birth. Blumenthal was AG after I left CT, but I still have family, friends, and now property in CT so I’ve always maintained some level of interest there.
My observations on his “reputation” for helping is that it was well promoted by Mr. Blumenthal and those successes he had were also well promoted by those who had other plans for Mr. Blumenthal. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but it also doesn’t mean he did those things without considering the benefit to his career prior to doing them. Because the people he didn’t help were those where the payoff for Mr. Blumenthal wasn’t going to involve a photo op and hearty handshakes.
I can’t speak to his larger, more publicized stuff, but the man was known for working hard – coming in early, spending six days at the office, and getting stuff done. Maybe the big cases were well publicized, but to the best of my knowledge, the small stuff he did to help CT families like them never made any news whatsoever. And as I said above, he didn’t receive anything from them other than thanks, and perhaps some flowers sent to his office, if I recall correctly.
This was during his 20-year time as AG in CT, so before his political game kicked into high gear, so hey, maybe politics corrupted him – it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened in history, right?
We seem to want to pigeonhole people as fully horrible or vaunted heroes, ignoring the reality that people can be both, for different reasons. That he lied about his service for political gain doesn’t negate that he also did good things for the people of CT.
The left for the large part seems to pigeonhole conservatives more so that the other way. It also seems that being a veteran is becoming less popular again and that vets are likely mentally ill. I think that view is from the left.
I agree that the left pigeonholes conservatives a lot – calling someone a racist just because they voted for Trump is just lazy insanity. And yes, the lack of connection many on the Left have with the military leads to dumb assertions like the incidence rate of PTSD and mental illness is damn near 100%, along with ridiculous notions of the ‘horrible, horrible’ things they did that brought it on.
Where we disagree is that it’s clear the Left does it more than the right. Maybe, if we’re measuring small differences, but it happens so much on both sides that it’s hard to make that judgement. To most here, anyone on the Left is a gentle snowflake that is regularly offended by anything. And an idiot, but of course that nearly goes without saying. And the latest buzzword to lose any meaning is, of course, ‘socialist’ – which is thrown at liberals for any reason whatsoever. While most here mock AOC’s intelligence, I hear crickets regarding Devin Nunes’s tweet the other day where he said “Welcome to socialism in California” because a waitress asked if he wanted a straw. Humor me, but it’s pretty hard to see the connection between restaurants saving money and helping the environment by only giving out straws when people ask and.. oh, you know, mass murder under a Lenin-like figure.
We need to accept that people can be iconic leaders and flawed humans, not just one or the other – be they anyone from Thomas Jefferson to Martin Luther King, Jr.
C’mon, LC, that’s a dishonest argument about the straw issue–it’s about much more than a business saving money and you know it–Nunes meant it as an illustration of the insanity of leftist California’s “straw” issue.
You know, LC, just about the time you get me to thinking you’re someone with your head on straight, you go and blow it with a bullshit response like this.
I think you’re reading some subterfuge into what was really just stating the facts – I didn’t say California’s straw ‘ban’ was designed to save businesses money, I said it saves money and helps the environment. Obviously it’s goal is the latter, but it also does the former.
But no matter what way you skin it, it’s hard to go from ‘straws are bad for the environment’ to ‘line people up and shoot them’. Nunes’s tweet was ridiculous. It’s like when the DNC had a job and said ‘white men need not apply’ – assinine and unhelpful.
And yes, my entire point was that people are not one-dimensional caricatures of awesome, manly patriotism or craven, sniveling cowardice. And both sides dolike to pigeonhole the opposition as such. That’s not moral equivalence, that’s reality. Moral equivalence is saying, “Hey, your guy did X, so it’s fine that my guy did too..” I’m saying we need to look at individual actions as good or bad, or both, and not label an entire person as such because of one such action. If a liberal can’t name one good thing President Trump has done, and a conservative one good thing President Obama did, I find them both pretty disingenuous. But I don’t find both those men to be equally good or bad.
Oh. and I forgot to point out that you’re back to your moral equivalence argument that, “both sides do it.” As many times as you’ve used that here at TAH you could just use a shorthand like “MEQ” so that we know you’ve fallen back on that lame old excuse again.
Save you some keystrokes, hmm?
why do you hate Trump?
How much time have you got? It’s a long list. But the key thing, I imagine, is he’s a con-man – he’s a constant liar with no moral compass, he doesn’t serve any cause greater than himself, and I think the country deserves better.
And, for the record, I felt pretty similarly about Hillary Clinton too.
Don’t forget Hanoi Jane.Blumenthalshould have gone to Viet Nam with Trump and stey in the Hanoi Hilton.
Is he up for re-election this year? That’s his only motivation in life other than $$.
I bet that “Da Nang Dick” is up for reelection thus he’s suddenly interested in Veterans, I personally wish for him to be struck by lightning and burst into flames the next time he takes a shit!
But what about the innocent bystanders splattered with his “shrapnel”?
Clowns.
Dave commented “I have no idea what is going on at the VA hospital in West Craven, CT.”
According to the story, it seems Senator Blumenthal wants the VA to improve the surgical conditions at the West Haven VA Hospital because many of their operating rooms aren’t being used due to issues involving the sterilizing of surgical equiptment.
The reporter, when summerizing his article, forgot to use spell check. Unless “happeing” is a new word….😉
“Sen. Blumenthal wants the VA secretary to speed up the process of establishing a new sterilization facility, which is up to five years away from happeing right now.”
#whatshappeinghotstuff
Used to service/maintain and provide parts for autoclave/sterilization equipment for hospitals. That kinda equipment is available for off the shelf purchase. Any decent bio-medical technician can handle that gear, install, service, repair, maintain.
I’ll bet they blew the sterilization budget on landscaping or office artwork.
I’ll take “Office Artwork” for $1000, Alex.
Walk in with your DD214 , fill out form 10-10ez once you’ve gone through eligibility you will be scheduled for orientation ( something they didn’t have when I got out) and schedule your appointments you’ll get info on myhealthevet to secure message docs, refill scripts , look at your blue button notes , the list goes on. I started when VA was not as up to par as it is now and I’ve never been refused help or access . Returning combat vets get 5 years free va health off the bat head to toe. This notion that VA is turning ppl away at the door is bullshit. It may not be perfect but it works pretty darn good. You want to know all you can about all VA benefits a word of advice. Educate your self , be your own best advocate and don’t be afraid to ask them for help. Look I don’t need a Valor vulture to tell me about VA , I bet if he had his way Sean Yetman and Shane Ladner would be 100 percent and given first rate medical. Sorry guys I usually dont rant but this over the top demonization of VA by a guy who lied about his service and didn’t do what I did like deploy has no business talking about this.
Yep
Take any and all DD-214 you have and have them all scanned into system. Files here showed that only served 4 years and no over seas courtesy DVA. Lots of problems from start, 2006, until truth came out Jan of this year, as to weird questions and glossing over any questions I had as to prior things. Jan of this year found out about records while filing for PTSD and Agent Orange registry from mental health examiner. Got mad after finding this was true from call to DVA confirming only show 4 years, they dug into records and found previous DD-214, 3+ additional service as well as VN service of 1 year. It not only happened to me but heard of 1 other who’s records showed only 6 years service and took him 20 minutes with person operating computer to update system as was retired from military. If you served more than 1 tour and belong to VA it might be best to call 1-800-827-1000 and check. Yes is long wait to speak to human there but after to two months of frustration here and pretty much telling them to stick system in their ass, things are straightened out and now shows 1965 to 1973 service and VN service. Still are more tests to be done but am 30% PTSD and 10% tinnitus back dated to date of filing.
Outcast: Have a question.
Have read your situation several times on TAH.
Are you saying the VA misplaced your DD214s? The reason I pluralised DD214 is that it sounds you served more than 3 years.
Out of curiousity, did you store your copies in a safe place, i.e. a personal fireproof safe?
Also, did you personally retain a copy of your military medical records, awards, orders, etc. in a safe place, i.e. a personal fireproof safe?
If it is none of my business, please let me know.
You just got my curiousity.
if You served in the Army and have have a DS logon like to get into Ebenefits you can use that to get into the HRC portal it won’t show all your records but you can view download your 214 as well as erb orb and school paperwork. As well as original contract don’t know if there’s a service time limit for those records I’m not sure if you can for Vietnam era vets but might help someone out
They don’t turn anyone away, but they do prioritize them, groups 1-8. Priority group 8 is those without service connected conditions who don’t want to pay for their own health care. In other words, parasites. I suspect that most of the complaints come from low-priority freeloaders.
https://www.military.com/benefits/veterans-health-care/va-healthcare-priority-groups.html
Great point. It’s been my experience that people who have claims usually don’t waste time in doing so . So if you don’t have a leg to stand on SC wise then prepare to pay a copay , but do not expect VA to give you what they are giving to higher priority groups.
Ditto the above. I have a brother who spent less than a year total in the Navy, never even a striker for a rating, IIRC. Most of that time was spent in various jails in TJ and San Diego and surrounding area as well as a few stays in the Navy brig. He’s a cat 8. And … he has claimed financial hardship so pays only a small fraction of what he is billed. So he sees an MD several times a year, gets about 8 (at last count) medications and pays, oh, I’m thinking less than $100 a year. If he was able to really pitch the ‘woe is me’ bullshit he may be paying nothing. As Timactual says, the VA rarely will turn away a veteran who has good paper. I saw this many times during my employment with the VA. I never saw a veteran with good paper turned away from care. No, I’m not denigrating those in Cat 8 or 7 or 6 or whatever. I’m making an observation concerning my experiences as an employee with the VA and as it relates to one individual in particular.
” In other words, parasites. I suspect that most of the complaints come from low-priority freeloaders.” That has been my personal experience as an employee. Does it hold fast throughout the VA System? IDK but I’m thinking probably so.
Fake veterans will be assisted by the National Endowment for the Arts under Dick’s plan.
Only thing I know about Senator Richard “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal is that he is a lying, embellishing piece of sh*t professional politician that needs to just eat sh*t and die. Google hit for you “Dickhead”. He made it thru Marine Corps Basic Training. Yeah that may be a BFD for a piece of sh*t like him, but millions of others have done the same thing; and most of those were honorable Marines, NOT a piece of sh*t like Da Nang Dick. F you you fing POS. Why don’t you, Hanoi Jane and John “walk around Skeery” Kerry go have a 3 some together. Her strap on probably has bigger and more realistic balls than the two of you combined.
You are the epitome of what is wrong with politics in this country, Da Nang Dick.
When I retired back in 2007 and moved to Florida, I was on the 18th month Cobra deal but the va would not take me since I didn’t serve in SE Asia. I was told that in 2003, pres bush stopped some of the va funding so they were only taking Vets that I mentioned plus the ones before the SE Asia war. I probally could have gotten into the system if I applied back in 1966 after I got out. My former next door neighbor told me that he was on a fire base in VN and barbecued and drank beer at night and was a wall st. trader after he got out and is worth mucho bucks. He uses the va and gets medical things from them at no charge. I heard that obama brought back the partial funding but I now have health insurance which I pay for and can afford. To be honest, the va did send me forms wanting to know the value of my earnings including how much I made a year in retirement and any gold/silver/precious metals I own which I heard that I would have to pay some kind of co payment if I was accepted.
Rich neighbors, gold/silver/precious metals?
Are you in need of a Soviet?
Asking for a friend.
Dave; While working on my job, the company hired around 20 refugees from the old Soviet Republic and one of the guys I worked with asked me if I wanted to make 10 grand by getting married and then get divorced to one of the Soviet women he knew of from Brooklyn. I heard that this was going on from the papers and media so I told him no deal. I wanted to retire and not get involved in any of these deals that were going on. there were a number of guys that did this with multiple women and then got caught.
You got lied to.
He did indeed get lied to. There were no VA budget cuts under Bush(43).
The VA’s budget increased in both nominal and real terms (e.g., after adjustment for inflation) every year between 2001 and 2009. Over that period of time, in real terms the VA’s budget increased by more than 2/3. See page 4 of
https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RS22897.pdf
“West Craven”
My final VA rating is 49% Motherfucker and 51% Son of a Bitch however, I was not granted any disability compensation.
Like Lemmy of Motorhead, I was born to lose but live to win.
Aaaah yes….Motörhead! Saw them in concert twice. Awesome shows.
No body likes a “Dick”. So shut up Dick.
I have wondered for years what happened to all the Guys that threw all their paper work in the Trash when we rotated home from Vietnam. I was one of the last ones to leave for the airport because my pay was so much they had to cut checks for 600.00 each. I only received 10.00 a month and all my pay went into accrual.
Those guys that were discharge threw all their DD214 and orders away and did the FTA thing.
You would think that you’d keep the 214 just to avoid any chance of getting drafted again.
I heard he bought tickets to the upcoming Poser’s Ball. Can anyone verify that?
Don’t be silly. Everyone knows that Posers don’t have balls…
Bye the way Forget about Blumenthal, He’s a Liar and him and Jane aren’t worth the energy to hate. Life is to short!
Honor and Courage… 5th Cav Rgt?
BTW, I’ll wait till hell freezes over to piss on Fonda’s grave. Still love the vet who spit tobacco juice on her! I’m never forgetting! And Little Dickie Blumenthal can kiss it.
Rambo. Fought in the war wile stateside. He was ah marine. He is so full of shit his Liberal eyes are brown. Three card monty specialist.
Rambo shook my hand, and fellow Veteran who goes by MGM (Marine) at a dedication of a Slick in a memorial in Waterbury CT and said “I was in Vietnam, but not in combat”, as he looked at my CIB (combat infantry badge) on my field jacket.
What a load of horse dung he is! He does what’s good for the Democratic party. Period!
fonda spent more time in vietnam than lyin’ little dick.
If you like dishonorable socialists, lying, stolen valor thieves, you’ll love little dick blumenthal.
Da Nang Dick has been a lying SOS since day one. He has only back-pedaled on his Viet of the Nam service since he was caught in his lies. I suppose now he will be talking about his “Vietnam times” like Chief Snaggletooth, cuz now everyone knows that means Vietnam Era.
If “Dick” wants to do something, he can call for an unscrewing of the percentage system they use in the VA. As a broad example, if a guy is 50% and he gets rated for another 25%, his actual rate is 54%. What kind of Ocasio-Cortez math is that?
