Coast Guard officer plotted to ‘murder innocent civilians’

| February 21, 2019

I worry about our current political environment but not for the reasons many think.  There are many incidents coming to light where perpetrators manipulated public sentiment to cause all kinds of mischief.   Claim someone was wearing a MAGA hat and follow that with whatever neo-Nazi allegation you want and a good portion of the Press will jump all over it.   Its just a matter of time until someone weaponizes this kind of thing to whip up hysterical loons into committing violence of some kind.

U.S. Coast Guard officer is a self-proclaimed white supremacist who drafted a hit list of prominent Democrats and media personalities, part of a plot to “murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country,” federal prosecutors wrote in a court filing this week.

Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson was arrested Feb. 15 on firearm and opioid possession charges, but a filing Monday in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland warns that those alleged violations “are the proverbial tip of the iceberg.”

“The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life,” prosecutors wrote.

Hasson, an acquisitions officer for the service’s National Security Cutter program, previously served in the Marine Corps and Army National Guard from 1988 to 1993, according a filing that seeks to keep him behind bars until his criminal trial concludes.

A resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, Hasson, 49, has been in custody since his arrest last week and a detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday, according to Marcia Murphy, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

There is this picture that seems to be splattered all over the internet where this story is posted:

Authorities found 15 guns and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition when they searched the apartment of Coast Guard Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson this month. Prosecutors allege he was a self-proclaimed white nationalist plotting “to murder innocent civilians. (U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland records)

That collection of guns is not much different than tens of thousands of other collections (including mine) that are owned by American citizens legally.  See, this guy was a total nut case…look at all those guns.  Guns = crazed neo-Nazi loon.   This guy was out to manipulate the rift between different groups in this country that has been created by destroying the fabric of what holds us together … pride in being American.

Hasson conducted online searches for pro-Russian, neo-fascist and neo-Nazi literature between 2017 and 2019, and took inspiration from the manifesto of Anders Breivik, a far right-wing domestic terrorist who killed 77 people — mostly children — in two coordinated attacks in Norway in 2011, according to the filing.

Breivik’s manifesto provides “a blueprint for future single cell or ‘Lone Wolf’ terrorist operations,” the filing states.

Consistent with Breivik’s manifesto, Hasson “began the process of targeting specific victims, including current and former elected officials” in January, according to the filing.

Hasson’s online activity since January 2017 showed him condutcing internet searches for phrases such as, “most liberal senators,” “where do most senators live in dc,” “do senators have ss [secret service] protection” and “are supreme court justices protected,” the filing states.

He also searched for MSNBC host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough “after viewing a headline claiming that Scarborough referred to the President as ‘the worst ever,’” according to the filing.

“After further searches, the defendant found Scarborough’s prior home, and then proceeded to scroll in and out on the location for approximately 35 seconds,” the filing states.

Prosecutors contend that on Jan. 17, Hasson also “compiled a list of prominent Democratic Congressional leaders, activists, political organizations, and MSNBC and CNN media personalities,” according to the filing.

The same day he made the list, prosecutors say Hasson used the search engine Google for the following phases:

  • “what if trump illegally impeached”
  • “best place in dc to see congress people”
  • “where in dc to (sic) congress live”
  • “civil war if trump impeached.”

Hasson regularly perused the manifesto from early 2017 until his arrest this month, focusing on the sections offering advice on amassing guns, food, disguises and survival supplies, the filing states.

Law enforcement searched his “cramped basement apartment” in Maryland this month and found 15 firearms and more than 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition, according to the filing.

If we continue to erode the fabric of  America, this kind of thing will only escalate.  So far, the use of victimization to fragment this nation has been wildly successful.  Some fragments of the Left have become so caustic their current path can lead to nothing but violence.

In a June 2017 draft email, he allegedly wrote about “dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth,” the filing states: “Interesting idea the other day. Start with biological attacks followed by attack on food supply…Have to research this.”

Prosecutors allege that Hasson noted the need to enlist the “unwitting help of another power/country,” and wondered “Who and how to provoke??”

Hasson wrote that “liberalist/globalist ideology” was destroying “traditional peoples” and warned that “much blood will have to be spilled to get whitey off the couch,” prosecutors wrote.

According to the court filing, he added, “For some no amount of blood will be enough” because they “will die as will the traitors who actively work toward our demise. Looking to Russia with hopeful eyes or any land that despises the west’s liberalism.”

I hope there are enough of us around that will see through this kind of domestic terrorism regardless of what side of lunacy it comes from.  Jumping on bandwagons that are heading to a lynching is not a plan of action.  It’s simply mobs of gullible people being manipulated by hate.

They said he had FIFTEEN GUNS and 1000 rounds of ammunition…I kinda figure that is a minimum load per any handgun caliber. Two ugly ass revolvers and three .22 rifles are a third of his ‘arsenal’. So he has two more or less standard shotguns, four centerfire rifles, and a few handguns. Long way from being able to take out a government there. I am guessing he is a bit of a dick, but Guy Fawkes he ain’t.

Mason

Yup, I’m feeling like I’m about to run out when I get to only 1,000 rounds per caliber of inventory. Like driving a car below 1/4 tank, you just don’t do it.

Only?

H1

Spare shotgun barrels and scary .22’s.
Just how long has the “research” phase been going on?
Kinda sounds like a man of inaction…

rgr769

I was shocked, too. He had two (2) pump 12 gauge shotguns and spare barrels with ventilated ribs, likely for shooting trap. He was obviously planning to overthrow the government in the District of Criminals.

26Limabeans

That’s a pretty weenie arsenal.
Shotguns and hunting rifles in front.
A few AR’s in the back with beau coup empty magazines and not even enough ammo to feed one of them for very long.
Lotsa cool web gear and a few back packs to hump around the bushes with but how you gonna carry all that shit on your world killing spree?
And ammo up man. You got squat for ammo.

But it’s tacticool…

Here is your proof that all white veterans are pill popping, gun collecting raciss, facciss, Trump loving, right wind Russian colluders that need to be stopped. Confiscate all gunz. Whitey bad, orange man caused this one to start plotting to kill everyone. This is why we need more gun laws. Think of the children. If this person would of had some more sensitivity training while in the military. No wonder he was like this, he was a Marine. The epitome of the Devil Dogs. This is where the name came from……

Pieces of shit like this one is what causes the above type of thinking. This does not bode well for anyone.

Some of us may recall a couple of Tom Clancy theories/books/yarns on taking out large swaths of the population using super viruses. Thank God for John Clark and Domingo Chavez huh? Maybe homeboy should have read up on that.

Ex-PH2

I’m confused. It looks like the kind of stuff someone would use for hunting deer and geese or ducks, but the reference to “more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition” sounds like someone who was going to target practice.

I guess I simply don’t have gunophobia. Don’t you guys stock up whenever there’s a sale on that stuff?

Okay, so he’s a paranoid idjit who wanted to shoot politicians, if that “search stuff” is accurate, but lots of people want to do that. They just don’t act on it. So was he going to go to a Democrat softball game and shoot the congress critters at bat?

This isn’t going to stop until the control freaks find out that they aren’t even in control of their own bowel movements.

26Limabeans

“Don’t you guys stock up whenever there’s a sale on that stuff?”

There is never a “sale” on ammo. We buy it when we see it whether we need it or not.
Or so I have heard. Somewhere.

Roh-Dog

It’s hard not to have 1,000 rounds on order every week!
The last couple year M855 ball was about .42 c/round.
The last couple months it’s fallen through .33 c/rnd when ordering 1,000 ct. with Federal doing a rebate of .05 c/rnd….
Let’s put it this way, I’m almost dollar-cost averaged down to the current price.
It ain’t gonna go bad, at some point it can only go up and inflation is a thing (presumably the Central Banks will let it be again).

rgr769

Plus, when we are all considering eating our pets because the nation has gone full socialist like Venezuela, bullets will be more valuable than stacks of currency or a fully loaded government EBT card. Think what a few hundred rounds of 5.56mm ammo will buy during our dystopian future that looks like that movie, “The Road.”

Roh-Dog

I wish there was a way to short EBT Card futures…
-or-
Credit default swaps/ options!
$22T in the hole, which is 108% of GDP with a debt service of $1T/year.
The cartridge will be the ONLY currency.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I don’t know what the big deal about the ammo. When I was really into it, I used to buy thousand round cases of .45, .09MM and .38 wadcutters. Slowed down a little when I bought my Springfield XD SC in .40. I used to tell friends that you can get a cheaper price when you buy in bulk and then ask them if they only buy one roll at a time of shit paper.

Where can I get a “Free Jussie Smollett” t-shirt. Asking for a friend.

When John Wilkes Booth looked at the news the day following his assassination of Lincoln, he was shocked that the papers treated him as a murderer as opposed to a hero and liberatior of the south. He thought he would have been the toast of the south.

I’m guessing the Coast Guard will want their Plate Carrier, SAPI plates, and web gear back, when they out process him. The USA Today article also said he got caught with a bunch of “drugs” (anabolic steroids). Was this guy dealing or just a huge user?

Awaiting instructions from higher whether it really is OK for me to be outraged about another terrorist making public threats to kill people. We have learned in the past few weeks that when lefties cheer that they are now able to kill babies after they were born it is not OK to be outraged with them for doing so, so I am hesitant to be outraged with this one. I am totally confused about the age parameters on killing being OK, or even something to be celebrated.

Hmmmm, I always thought an “arsenal” was a place where firearms were manufactured and an “armory” was were firearms were stored.

I have a SUV, a collector car, an ATV, a riding lawnmower and a SUV and a vintage motorcycle. Does that mean I own a “fleet” of vehicles?

I have a wood block on the counter-top containing eight knives for cooking, a kitchen drawer containing an assortment of various knives that have taken up residence in my kitchen through out the years, approx. ten butter knives, a couple of box cutters and one meat cleaver (not to include a couple of axes hanging on the garage wall for around the yard use & chisels in my shop). Does that mean I have an “arsenal” of edged weapons?

Above my table saw in my shop are approx. fourteen 7 1/2′, 10″ & 12″ saw blades, not to include hacksaws, handsaws, a band saw, a sawzall, circular saw, a jig saw, etc. Does that mean I have an “arsenal” of jagged edged weapons?

When my trap team and I shoot in a league, we normally shoot three rounds of trap. Five firearms X 75 rounds = 375 rounds. Do we have an arsenal?

Yeah, this guy’s bubble is a bit off level, but his 1000 rounds (arsenal) is hardly a start for most target shooters or hunters.

Gotta love the media & anti-gun folks with their exaggerations.

Lurker Curt

Totally off topic and none of my business, but I gotta ask- tell more about the collector car and vintage motorcycle please?

Of course, I will promptly fuck off and mind my damn business if directed to.

No arguing this guy is not playing with a full deck but ask yourself why. How many are past being fed up with the bullshit from the media – particularly CNN, Pelosi, Schumer, Bonner and others that you have not thought how nice it would be to slap them in the face with a 2 x 4 or similar item. Unlike us he was pushed over the edge but there are others in the same category who are going to act out their frustrations, like the jerk who shot up the Republican Congressional ball game. My reaction was to buy 50 MAGA hats on-line for $2.96 each (free shipping) and spread them around out county. The silent majority needs to speak up and not by doing what this nut planned.

Drugs + Guns + Crazy + Extremist Ideas.

Looks like the next gun free zone shooter to me.

How many guns does one need to kill and wound hundreds of people?

One.

I’m less worried about his smallish collection of firearms than I am about his ideas of killing as many people as he can.

Looks like a good catch to me.

NHSparky

Toss him in a deep hole, throw in some gas and a lit match chaser.

Problem solved.

2/17 Air Cav

A couple of things about this case. First, he was allegedly in possession of the pain killer Tramdol. The nature of that possession i not explained. Because of that, however, he was barred from possessing firearms, which is the gun charge pending against him. Last point. I see no crime is anything he did. The prosecutor is talking out of his or her ass. I read multiple accounts of this story and all trace their sensationalist delivery to the prosecutor’s bluster. There are no domestic terrorism charges and, if the come, based upon the accounts, I don’t see them being proved.

2/17 Air Cav

He was using it recreationally. He also had purchased fake pee on line to subvert the pee test.

It’s amazing the number of people who carry fake pee around with them these days. Mostly it is to get around pot and alcohol for random OTJ drug tests that many insurers require these days but occasionally a harder drug user will somehow find work.

I’m so glad we’re giving this guy a chance and not jumping to conclusions like liberals do. I’ll bet all those weapons were planted and the guy is just a patsy. Perry Gaskill

The Navy Times is not alone in not bothering to explain the cause and effect for Hasson’s arrest.

According to the original arrest document filed by the FBI, Hasson apparently got caught in a net because he was buying opioids from an online supplier based in Mexico. This likely sent up red flags which led to search warrants that revealed both the gun issue, “possession of a firearm and ammunition by an unlawful user or addict of controlled substances,” and the Anders Breivik terrorist issues:

https://www.scribd.com/document/400114076/Coast-Guard-Officer-Arrest-Criminal-Affidavit

The original arrest affidavit would probably not have amounted to much. It was only when the FBI revealed an additional document asking that Hasson be kept in detention that the media hysteria began:

https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5745084/Hasson-Detention-Memo.pdf

My own view is that the evidence is strong that Hasson is more crazy than a pet raccoon. Still, there are a couple of troubling aspects that don’t make terrorist charges exactly a slam dunk. One is that there’s apparently no evidence so far that Hasson has ever had a history of violence; another is that all the ranting, raving, and hit lists might be drug induced. It might be that Hasson would sit in his squalid and pathetic basement room, load up on opioids, and vent about his perceived enemies. There’s also apparently no evidence he shared his ranting with anybody else.

2/17 Air Cav

And that is what a defense atty may, in part, be arguing right this minute at the bail hearing.

2/17 Air Cav

And… the judge sat on the fence.

“At a detention hearing Thursday afternoon, a federal judge agreed to detain Hasson for 14 days. There was heated debate in court on whether Hasson is a ‘”domestic terrorist,” as the government claims, or just a ‘”career public servant with a gun collection,”’ as the defense claims. The judge is giving the government two weeks to fill in the blanks.

In court, an attorney for Hasson accused the FBI of going after Hasson to show ‘”it is not just targeting Muslims.”’ The government argued Hasson was using his work computer to plot attacks against politicians and media figures. The defense said it’s “not a crime to think negative things.”’ Souce: WBAL

You know what is remarkably consistent about active shooters? Lack of prior violent criminal history. All the worst ones have had practically no history which is one of the reasons they are so hard to catch. Every once in a while one does have a little something but it is more rare than not.

We don’t have Minority Report… yet. Now most of them express crazy ideas just like this guy. These expressions either get reported to the police who can’t do anything (free country and all) or nothing at all happens.

This is one of the reasons the Dems have such a hard on for guns. They know that most of the people on their side of the fence are batshit crazy and ready to go off about nothing. The overwhelming majority of the active shooters are either liberal or apolitical.
